Chapter 53: “Isn’t the Comeuppance About to Begin?” ③
Natsuki and his group were invited into the Kanna family home and shown to a large room.
Sitting on the tatami mats in a row, they watched as Taeko Kanna, Seishiro’s mother, bowed deeply before them.
A bit further away sat a blonde young man and Seishiro’s former fiancée, Akemi, both of them looking rather displeased.
“First, I would like to apologize for involving you all in our family’s personal issues.”
“…Mother, please raise your head. If anyone should apologize, it’s me.”
Seishiro hastily replied, clearly distressed that his mother was bowing.
But Taeko did not lift her head, leaving even Natsuki and his group feeling uncomfortable.
The issue with Seishiro was already resolved, after all.
They had come today with a lighthearted, picnic-like feeling, hoping to enjoy some well-deserved comeuppance, but the heavy atmosphere left them bewildered.
“Um, Kanna-dono, please, raise your head. The matter is already settled, and an apology from you makes us uncomfortable.”
Senju spoke up on behalf of the group, and Taeko slowly lifted her head.
“…Senju Nanamori-dono.”
“Well, I wasn’t really the one involved. It was Natsuki Yura-kun here who stopped Seishiro and sorted everything out afterward.”
“I’m Natsuki Yura. Nice to meet you.”
Taeko looked surprised at Natsuki’s casual greeting.
“…So, you’re Natsuki Yura-dono? I’ve heard stories from the Minazuki family.”
“Uh, yeah, a lot has happened.”
“Even though you possess great power, I deeply apologize for involving someone as young as you, Yura-dono.”
“No, please, don’t worry about it.”
“Thank you. However, I don’t know all the details myself. I received a message from the Institute’s higher-ups earlier, but I never imagined Seishiro would return so soon. I had heard beforehand that the divine sword was stolen, but…”
Since Taeko didn’t have the full story, Seishiro began explaining in detail.
After losing everything when the spirit sword was stolen, Seishiro trained relentlessly to defeat Ginko, but he soon hit his limits. During this time, he gave in to the temptation, thinking he could win if he possessed the divine sword, and ended up stealing it.
His reckless actions were stopped by Yusuke Sado and Ren Kobayashi, who isn’t here today. Natsuki Yura ultimately broke the divine sword, which brought Seishiro back to his senses.
However, that’s when Susanoo-no-Mikoto appeared, intending to take Seishiro’s life as punishment. But Natsuki Yura fought and defeated Susanoo, saving Seishiro’s life.
“…And I was entrusted with the divine sword by Tsukuyomi-sama, and Totsuka-no-Tsurugi by Susanoo-sama.”
When Seishiro finished speaking, Taeko was left speechless.
It was no surprise—who could have imagined that gods from the Age of Myth, especially Susanoo-no-Mikoto and Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto, would appear?
And to top it off, Natsuki had not only fought but defeated Susanoo-no-Mikoto in a fierce battle.
“Hah! Stop making up such ridiculous lies! There’s no way a brat like this could beat Susanoo-sama! If you’re going to lie, at least make it believable!”
The blonde young man who had been glaring silently at Seishiro until now—Reo Kanna—burst out, mocking both Natsuki and Seishiro.
“Tsukuyomi-sama his mentor? And you inherited Totsuka-no-Tsurugi? A mere human couldn’t possibly be involved with the gods so easily!”
“…Reo.”
“Don’t say my name so casually! I’m the next head of the Kanna family! Seishiro—no, brother—I know you want to steal the headship from me, but I won’t let you! I won’t hand over the title of head, or Akemi, to you!”
With bloodshot eyes and spitting in anger, Reo raged. Taeko’s face grew emotionless as she prepared to rebuke him, but Seishiro, looking puzzled, spoke first.
“Reo. What are you talking about?”
“Huh?”
“I only came here to apologize to Mother for the trouble I caused. I have no interest in the position of head of the family, and of course, I don’t want Akemi either. Actually, this isn’t something I should even need to say. The position of head should go to the person most suited for it, and Akemi isn’t an object to be given or taken; it’s not a matter of who gets her.”
“…W-What?”
Reo stood there trembling, while Akemi, having been clearly told “I don’t want you,” looked visibly shocked.
Sensing how things were about to unfold, Natsuki pulled out the fans labeled “Zama” from his item box once again and began handing them out to everyone.
