Chapter 47: “Got a Lot of Missed Calls, Huh?”

Seishiro Kanna woke up in one of the rooms of Senju Nanamori’s apartment in Mukaijima City. 

Senju’s apartment had plenty of rooms, but there wasn’t anything as thoughtful as a guest bed. Still, for Seishiro, who had been sleeping outdoors, having a roof over his head and not having to worry about bugs or animals was a welcome and comfortable change.

Though his body felt rested, his mind was still tired.

“…That was a weird dream. What even was that?”

He downed the bottle of mineral water that had been placed by his pillow and made his way to the living room. There, Senju was sipping coffee, puffing on an e-cigarette, and watching the news.

“Yo, good morning. If you want breakfast, head down to the convenience store. There’s coffee here, though. Want some?”

“I’ll take some coffee.”

Senju responded with a casual “Sure thing” and poured coffee from the machine into a mug featuring a cute alien design. He handed it to Seishiro.

“…Thanks.”

Sipping the coffee to wake himself up, Seishiro took a seat on the sofa with a sigh of relief.

“You seemed to be having a nightmare. Are you okay? I didn’t want to wake you up, so I left you alone.”

“I wish you had woken me up. It wasn’t really a nightmare, but it was a strange dream.”

“What kind of dream?”

“Some flashy blond guy came up to me, acting all buddy-buddy, saying, ‘You’re my master, right? I’m counting on you!’ Then he just kept talking about himself non-stop.”

“What kind of dream is that!?”

Seishiro concluded that it must have been due to exhaustion.

“By the way, your phone’s been ringing non-stop for a while now.”

“…I haven’t gotten any calls from anyone in years. That’s unusual.”

“Then why even keep it?”

Senju couldn’t help but make a jab at Seishiro’s lonely comment. 

But thinking about it, Seishiro had left his home, focused on intense training, and eventually reached his limit, which drove him to seek out a divine sword. 

His family must have decided long ago to cut ties with him.

Most notably, it was well-known that the Kanna family had disowned Seishiro after he lost the family’s legendary spirit sword. 

Even Senju couldn’t understand why his family would be calling him now, after all this time.

“—This is… how should I put it?”

“Who were the calls from?”

“My father, my brother, and my ex-fiancée… There are about a hundred missed calls.”

“That’s creepy! What kind of horror story is this!? And it’s only from people you don’t get along with!”

“…I got an email from my mother too. Why is it just an emoji…? And it’s a ‘Good job’ emoji.”

“You’re kidding. Wow, it really is just one emoji.”

Neither of them could figure out what was going on with the Kanna family, so they both tilted their heads in confusion.

“Well, I was planning to visit my mother today to apologize for the trouble I’ve caused, so this timing is perfect.”

“Exactly! I’ve been excited about this since yesterday!”

“…I appreciate your enthusiasm, but please, let’s keep things calm.”

“Yeah, yeah, I got it! But man, I can’t wait to see the look on your ex-fiancée’s face! And your brother’s—he’s going to be pale as a ghost! Ukekekekeke!”

As Senju started laughing evilly, Seishiro sighed. 

Until yesterday, he had harbored resentment toward his estranged brother and the fiancée who had abandoned him. But strangely, Seishiro no longer felt that way.

After witnessing battles between gods and receiving the divine sword, he had resolved to stop being bitter and to become stronger instead. He felt refreshed.

He no longer had any interest in the father who had despised him. All he wanted was to apologize to his mother and greet the household staff who had been kind to him.

As of now, Seishiro didn’t care about his ex-fiancée, his brother, or his father anymore.

“Alright! Once we finish our coffee, let’s meet up with Natsuki and the others, grab some lunch boxes, and head out!”

“…Just don’t go overboard.”
