Chapter 27: “Can’t Defend That?” ②

“What an annoying old man. After starting a fight by saying he’ll teach me the harshness of reality, he has no right to complain when I beat him up and take his spirit sword.”

“Ginko, you’re ruthless. Did you forget that you went that far?”

“Huh? Really? Is it that bad? Isn’t it just his own fault?”

Quietly, Seishiro swung his sword in response to Ginko’s remarks.

It was a strike borne out of pure murderous intent, beyond mere anger.

The sword was swung so swiftly that neither Ginko nor even Koume could react in time.

Ren, who was the only one able to react, was too far from Ginko and Seishiro to either stop or shield them.

As the approaching sword aimed for Ginko’s neck, she couldn’t even exclaim her shock.

However,

“Why are you trying to hurt our Ginko-san? I just don’t understand.”

The Totsuka-no-Tsurugi, which was about to slash Ginko, was now held by the left hand of Natsuki, who appeared behind her.

“Natsuki-kun!?”

“You’re back!?”

“Natsuki Yura, reporting back to Earth!”

“What’s with that vibe?”

“Did you hit your head or something?”

Despite being overly excited from his second space trip, Natsuki decided to focus on what needed to be done next.

“You, you grabbed the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi with your bare hand!? Impossible, that’s impossible!”

“I don’t really get it, but just get lost.”

Natsuki swung his fist from behind Ginko, hitting Seishiro square in the face and sending him flying several meters away.

Seishiro rolled on the ground, still clutching the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi.

“Who was that?”

He asked, seeking an explanation now.

“Well, um…”

“He’s the original owner of the Spirit Sword Hanako that Ginko took.”

“Oh.”

Natsuki retracted his arm and stood in front of Ginko and Koume, protecting them.

“Good evening, Ren and Yusuke-kun! Thanks for everything!”

“Oh, yeah. That’s fine, but…”

“It’s okay, but I’d like an explanation too!”

It seemed Ren and Yusuke were fighting without really understanding why Seishiro was acting this way.

Ginko and Koume were grateful for their protection.

“…That man was Seishiro Kanna. But seriously, what’s he carrying?”

Senju Nanamori, wearing sunglasses, showed up belatedly. Apparently, he knew the attacker—Seishiro Kanna.

“Why is Senju Nanamori here!?”

“Hey, Ginko Aoyama. Still talking like you’re playing a character, huh?”

“Mind your own business!”

“But I never thought Seishiro Kanna would do something this foolish now. I figured he’d given up and retired or something.”

“…Do you know something about it?”

Senju seemed to know not only the attacker’s identity but also the reason for attacking Ginko.

“Well, the world is small, after all. I’m actually surprised you haven’t heard about him.”

“―Senju Nanamori, enough. I should be the one to say it. No, I need to.”

Bleeding from the nose and using the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi as a cane to stand up, Seishiro interrupted Senju and turned his bloodshot eyes towards Ginko. 

Then, he revealed why he sought revenge.

“I, I’ve lost everything! My family heirloom, the spirit sword, was taken from me by my own student, Ginko Aoyama. I was removed from being the next family head as a form of taking responsibility, and my childhood friend, whom I thought loved me, told me during our engagement breakup, ‘What value do you have besides being an heir?’ All I have left is revenge!”

A painful silence spread.

After a while, Natsuki cleared his throat, turned to Ginko with a serious face, and said,

“Ginko-san… maybe you should apologize for now.”

Everyone else, except Seishiro and Ginko, nodded in agreement.

Demonic Sword Taro: “…I see, he was your former owner.”

Spirit Sword Hanako: “Hey, don’t get it wrong, he’s not my ex or anything like that. Don’t misunderstand!”

Demonic Sword Taro: “I understand. I know you’re not that kind of girl.”

Spirit Sword Hanako: “Well, as long as that’s clear!”

Totsuka-no-Tsurugi: “Hey there, seems like there’s a cute girl here. Wanna go for tea?”

Demonic Sword Taro: “――”

Spirit Sword Hanako: “What? What’s with you? Don’t just casually talk to me like that, you’re a divine sword!”

Totsuka-no-Tsurugi: “Come on, it’s fine. These days, being a divine sword or demonic sword isn’t in fashion!”
