Returned from Another World, Earth Turned Out to Be Quite the Fantasy Too. Also, Losing Heroines, Stop Looking This Way. - V3 Chapter 18
Chapter 18: “Time to Settle Things?” ③
“I know about you, Senju Nanamori-kun.”
Jack was the first to speak to Senju, who had knelt in apology.
“It seems you tried to stop the dissection when Nancy was nearly dissected under vile circumstances.”
“—”
“Really? Is that true?”
Natsuki asked Jack, who along with Nancy nodded in response.
“It wasn’t him who captured Nancy or attempted the dissection. Of course, he did try to prevent me from helping her escape, but he didn’t do anything terrible to Nancy.”
“He cleverly intervened to stop the dissection, and for that, we are grateful.”
This was news to Natsuki.
However, he remembered that while Senju had promoted the theory that “gods might be aliens,” he hadn’t actually advocated for dissection.
“No, it’s different. I stopped the dissection, but only because no help came from space.”
“That may be true, but you stopped it nonetheless. If help had come from space, you wouldn’t have needed to dissect me, right?”
“…”
“Wait, but weren’t there all sorts of tools that looked like magical instruments? Weren’t those prepared by you, Nanamori?”
Natsuki questioned, recalling something like that being said.
However, due to the encounter with Jack and the subsequent battle with Koume, his memory of the details was unclear.
“I was originally supplying them with curses and magical tools. I don’t know about the tsuchinoko, but it’s unlikely that ordinary people could catch a kappa. Still, just having the tools seemed to satisfy them. What was unexpected was that they caught an alien instead of a kappa.”
Senju replied without raising his face.
Despite there being no hostility or anger from Jack and Nancy, Senju seemed to be punishing himself, confessing more than was necessary, not out of honesty but as if confessing to his misdeeds.
“Please raise your head.”
Jack said, and Senju looked up.
Then, Jack and Nancy bowed their heads to him.
“Why?”
“Thanks to you, my fiancée, more precious than my own life, was spared from dissection. Regardless of the process, the result was that, because of you, Natsuki and I made it in time. We are truly grateful for that.”
“Thank you so much.”
“Stop, I-I…”
Jack approached Senju and placed a hand on his shoulder.
“Of course, I have my thoughts. If something had happened to Nancy, the outcome would have been different. But I can’t hold anger for what didn’t happen. I heard you’re deeply remorseful. My anger was already cleared when Natsuki saved Nancy. I can’t punish or be angry at someone who is showing such remorse.”
(Jack really is understanding, and so is Nancy. Maybe it’s because aliens dislike conflict and violence. But if it were me, just the possibility that my lover could have died would be enough for me to seek revenge.)
〜〜Afterword〜〜
One more chapter to go.
Jack and Nancy are fundamentally pacifists. This isn’t to say they’re naive, but rather to highlight the differences between Earthlings and aliens.
By the way, if Nancy had even a scratch on her… Jack would have gone on a rampage.
His lover was safe. The main culprits have been punished. Senju was involved but not the mastermind, and he had no intention of performing the dissection. So, please consider this a narrow escape.
