Let me be a mob! - Chapter 9- Setting the trap~
It’s been a week since I have taken shelter in this small town named Bulixia. The small town is situated near the province of Lukehart duchy and is probably a cross point of some very well-known destinations.
There was nothing noteworthy about this town other than its peacefulness and how detached civilians are from outside world affairs yet modernized enough to not be called underdeveloped.
It took me a day to completely recover and get back on my feet since being under mana suppression takes a heavy toll on the body. Not to talk about that constant levitation which I am not so fond of, as if now. It may be my forte but unless I don’t get a hang of mana itself, I would like to take things slowly.
Past few days, I have been doing nothing more than strolling around the town while keeping a low profile. My face was covered with clothing since I didn’t want to take the risk. It made me seem a bit out of place but that was fine until I remained in the shadow and observed my surroundings as silently as I could.
My focus apparently remained on the central library of the town where rested my destination. The Book of Spirituality.
I have noticed the patterns of guards stationed in the settlement. Since it was a public library, the ground floor was free to be visited by anyone who desired it. I also went to have a stroll and found that the second stage was where the guards were lined up. Just as I have read.
In the novel, one of the heroines told the protagonist about the spirits and how useful it could be for him if he gets the assistance of the mythical beings. The protagonist was tempted, given his situation and upcoming events so he stole the book. But unfortunately, he was never able to use Spiritual magic for some unforeseen reasons.
But it was not like I don’t know what I could do which the hero was not able to do. One of his harem members who actually was a half-elf and the one who told the protagonist about the spirits knew how to perform the ritual to contact the spirits.
But since she had the vow to honor she could not tell anyone about the pattern, even his lover so in the end the Book of Spirituality went to waste. Of course, the elven heroine’s monologue was described which would now help me become limitless.
But there was a catch. I have limited time to steal the book and play the ritual if I want to gain the affection of spirits. And that night would be two weeks from now on.
I have already bought the necessary maps from the library and from my approximation, it would take me almost eight days to reach the Temple of Avlova. It was situated in a deserted place which was why I need to keep my supplies and the hours I could travel during daylight in check. That leaves me less than six days to cleanly swipe away the book without ensuing any kind of commotion, if possible.
Despite the town not being too influential still has some decent warriors at their disposal. So to make this thievery successful I need to be as cautious as possible. Previously I was lucky since the Faceless was not using mana, but this time not only I might have to face someone high ranker but also they would be in numbers.
‘Let’s see…’
I knew dwelling meaninglessly in my worries would be pointless, so I began my preparation.
Emptying all the things from the new spatial storage ring I acquired from the previous battle in Mengalf, I thought about the plan I have in mind for the upcoming event which I would be executing two days from now.
“Hmm…Potions…weapons…oolala what do we have here~”
Other than the sword which had mana stone embedded in it, the other things mainly consisted of:-
Healing potion- 4(low), 3(mid), 1(advance)
Mana Potion:- 8(low, 5(mid), 3(advance)
Recovery Potion:- 3(low), 5(Mid)
Two metal sword
One mana-suppression ring
Mid-rank poison orbs
Pouch of gold coins- 738 coins
I was skeptical whether I would be using the mana-suppressing ring or not since there was a black snake engraved over it, signifying this artifact was something The Faceless has borrowed from the organization. As per my knowledge, as soon I activate it, the underworld would be aware of my location, and in normal circumstances, I would like to avoid the possibility to be hunted by one of the most lethal organizations.
Unfortunately, there was no booster in the ring which signified that the bas*ard had already exhausted most of his resources in the mission. It was understandable since breaching the Ducal territory and kidnapping the heiress from under their nose undoubtedly required a lot of effort.
‘Well, this is a hefty compensation for those slaps…’
Glancing at the sword in my hand which had a red ruby fixated at its hilt I grinned since having a crafted weapon with my current financial situation was nothing more than a wishful fantasy come true. Although this sword would take a whole lot of mana if I try to use its effect I knew someday I would be needing this in a dire situation.

(After two days)
(Early morning)
Past two days I have been doing nothing but planning the burglary while strengthening my mana efficiency, as much as I can. I went out of my room time after time. Not because I was bored or anything, but rather…
“Let me help you, old man.”
“Oh, Rustav. You woke up.”
The inn I was staying at had an eatery on its ground floor owned by the landlord of the building. Ever since almost ten days, I have been making way to help the old man in one way or another and also sometimes played with his ten-year-old daughter to gain his goodwill.
Well, I was not an introvert so jumping into the old man’s good book was not much difficulty. To avoid suspicion, I have shown them my face but hid my identity. There was a reason I did not use the face-shifting artifact and that was its heavy mana consumption.
“I can do this much ya know~”
He said with a shake of his head and tried to brush away the fact that he was getting old despite his daughter being so small. But I insisted and went forward to pick up the heavy pack of coffee beans and a sac of potatoes. Following my suit, the old man picked two heavy flour sacs on his shoulders as we began to walk inside the restaurant.
Since the supply truck unloads the ration at the back door, the old man has to pick up all these packages every day. But I have been helping him for some days, so today was nothing out of the blue.
However, I had something in mind for today, for which I took out a small purple orb from my spatial storage while walking two steps behind the old man. His head was unmovable since he had two heavy sacs on either shoulder. I channeled my mana on top of my index finger and made a tiny hole in the sac on the left. White flour instantly started to pour out so I didn’t waste time and sneakily pushed the orb inside.
“Should I put it here?”
Thankfully we were already in the godown and the old man just put the flour sac on the ground without seeing the small hole pierced in the back. Asking him where to put the stock, I also brought down the pouches.
But for some reason I found the old man furrowing while glancing at the ground behind me.
“Was the package, torn?”
My eyes went slightly wide as I glanced to the backside and saw a small trail of flour following until the point where we stood. I completely forgot to think about this possible situation!
“Shouldn’t you be asking for an exchange?”
Despite being nervous I asked the old man in a serene tone. I might have slightly blown it up but there was no point regretting it now.
“Nah. Rixxy is a good pal. He barely does any mistakes in the package, so this much is fine.”
I relaxed my shoulder and held the urge to sigh, as I found the old man turning in my direction with his hand lifting to rest on my shoulder as he spoke in a warm tone.
“Ria would be sad if you go without notifying her. You sure you have to leave so shortly.”
“Yeah, old man. I have to visit someone important in a few days so…”
I heaved a sigh in defeat since despite my reason being fake, it was inevitable that I would be leaving the inn and the town by tonight at any cost.
“Well, can’t complain. Have a safe trip, kid. And do visit me if you ever return to Bulixia.”
I nodded and left the godown as the old man went to prepare the ingredient not only for his famous puffy bread but also prepare the pavement for my success…
