Let me be a mob! - Chapter 10- The feeling of being a murderer?
Early in the morning just after an hour of sunrise, a man in his late twenties with short brown hair walked through the barren streets of the town of Bulixia while yawning every once in a while and muttering curses for his job.
Since the period was still too early for any customer to visit, there were not many stores in the market one could see being operated. And even those who had lifted their shutters stayed hidden from this particular man’s gaze to dodge any kind of trouble.
The fear in general residents’ eyes and the cautiousness they were portraying were hefty enough to show the status of the man who was wearing a dark blue uniform of the central security of the town.
‘Talk about headache… ‘
The brown-haired man clutched his head while cursing even more at his job which was assigned as the guard in chief at the central library. He may not be the strongest but since there were other duties as well other than protecting the library, the jobs were divided into shifts.
The brown-haired guard–Alben–was designated to be the guard-in-command for half of the day and the rest of the working hours as a patrolling soldier.
The next half day is given to another fellow soldier to take care of the library and his shift ends when Alben reports early in the morning. The job was tedious and no one knew what the heck they were protecting so dearly in that settlement.
‘I better hurry up… ‘
There were only ten minutes left for his reporting time which was why Alben fastened his pace and entered the eatery which was just three blocks away from his destination. This restaurant was where Alben usually comes in the morning to grab his all-time favorite black coffee and puffy buns to boost his day.
“Ol’ man. Hurry with the usual…”
The owner of the shop who already has gotten accustomed to Alben’s attendance didn’t bother asking for an order and packed a bun and a medium paper cup of coffee before bringing it to the counter.
“That would be 70 C.” [C= Copper]
The old man, unlike other sellers and shopkeepers, wasn’t afraid of Alben nor he has let Alben impose himself on the place by fighting with all he could and using some of his trump cards.
Alben knew there was no point to rebel so he grumbled and forwarded a small pouch he already have prepared toward the old man and snatched the food in return.
“Please come again~”
Snorting at the old man’s words, Alben walked out of the building while unwrapping the warm fluffy bread already. He sipped on the unmatchable coffee which had the best sweet and bitter taste before he savored the sweet and salty bun to his heart’s content.
“!!!”
He only walked some steps while feasting on the bun when he felt his lids growing heavy and breathing slightly suffocated. Alben primarily thought it was because he was stuffing himself with big chunks of bread which caused this discomfort but as soon his vision began to darken, he knew something was wrong.
“Wait a min…when did I…?”
Alben looked around in astonishment since he was no longer walking on the main street leading to the library but standing all alone in a dark alley. The growing headache was painful enough for him to drop the items from his hand as he cautiously began to look around.
He has been duped by that bread or something else for sure but right now he wanted to find the culprit behind this scheme who was destined to die the most painful death for souring Alben’s mood.
“Where are you hiding you rat? Show your face you bitch!!”
Alben cursed at the top of his lungs as he fought the urge to drop to the ground and collect his dizziness. But the overwhelming effect of whatever he consumed made his feet stagger and soon his back landed on the nearby side wall.
“Huff… Huff…”
His breathing began to choke and seemingly bringing difficulty to keep on his consciousness intact passing each second. Alben has never felt so weak and helpless before which was creating a numbing sensation throughout his body.
“No… I can’t die like-hiiick!”
Alben was about to pull out his dagger to prepare himself for whoever was trying to kill him, but his body shuddered in panic and a yelp left his throat as he saw a pair of gray eyes adorned over a shrouded face staring at him, some inches apart from Alben’s face.
And the fact that the face was upside down made Alben lose his breath. Maybe it was because of the poison he ate since Alben felt his heart nearing its explosion and his pupil shaking at a violent pace.
But before he could have taken any further action or reminded himself of his strength, the brown-haired man felt a hot iron taste bubbling up in his throat and his breath no longer agreeing to respire out at all.
Under the heavy gaze of the man, Alben collapsed on his spot before even he could put on a fight for his life.
He was dead.

[Jin’s Pov:]
‘Phew…this was scarier than I thought… ‘
Retrieving the dead officer behind the dumping trunk, I hastily pulled his clothes. While I was at it, I didn’t forget to put the Mask of Disguise over the officer’s face since the artifact requires scanning the face first before it could shifts form.
Previously, when I killed The Faceless my mind was in chaos and the feeling of bestowing someone with death didn’t seem much significant. But gushing the dagger in this officer’s throat gave me a sensation that I would never be able to forget.
It was weird but not particularly disgusting as I thought it would be. Whatever it was, I was happy and sad that I wasn’t terrified after killing someone which a normal human should be.
The feeling of remorse for killing this man never built in my chest since Alben was someone who has a black history which helped me kill him without hesitation.
Extortion, abuse, and the most sinful act was child rape. I have been gathering information about Alben and found that he forcibly kept a fourteen-year-old girl at home as a slave. I am no hero of justice but Alben was dirt through and through so getting rid of him was not something I count as a crime.
The reason why the central authority of the town was tolerating him was because of his skill which was best suited for his job. A barrier-type mage.
I knew killing an E-rank warrior would be no joke that was why I used the old man at the eatery to drug him through the bread and as I planned, I was able to create a situation where he was seeing things more anxiously. Some PTSD-like effect implicates in the drug I found in The Faceless’ ring.
Being a Hero Candidate, I was immune to most of the drugs or poisons so I used the drug on myself first. Quite risky but I needed to know every detail of my plan before I could put it to work.
Once I took away the clothes of the man, and the artifact formed the guise I needed, I quickly put Alben’s body in my spatial storage and dressed in the town guard uniform.
This spatial storage I got from The Faceless was an advanced-rank artifact that was expensive enough for me to get sold in debt. One of the main features was that it can store even dead things and keep their state as it was at the time of being stored.
‘Uniform done… Mask done… Hmmm… Well, screw it. ‘
I shrugged away the last of my worries and with an irritated expression that Alben generally has, began to walk toward my destination.
The Library.
