Let me be a mob! - Chapter 63- Paranoid?
# [Aiden’s POV:]
‘Something…is not right… ‘
Even though I heard from Jin that something would be happening because of the spar he and President Amanda had some days ago, I was still on the uncertain side.
Rena also confirmed that eight students from previous years vanished from the academy without any reason but to assume that they just tried to reach Amanda could lead to the abolishment of their academy life and cutting their dreams to become a hero…indeed something I would have never believed if not for the person informing me of this.
I do trust Jin, he saved my life back on our first expedition after all, but that faith is not to the point where I could go against my instincts. That was why I have kept my senses elaborate toward my surroundings, more so toward the person whom Jin targeted in the category of suspicion.
Rena and Silvie are on their guards as well, but somehow they were not showcasing it up front, which was more surprising when it came to Silvie who tends to be more on the fidgety side yet she was able to retain her usual demeanor in front of the upperclassmen.
Other than us four, the student council team contained Predeint Amanda, the treasurer Miss Emily Velbhack, the adviser Miss Maegen Zachbell, and the last Vice President Phillip Zaelensccop.
Currently, since it was nighttime and the horned horses needed some hours of rest to resume the journey, we decided to camp in the middle of the jungle. The spot was chosen by the Vice-President and I must admit, his scouting skills were top-notch.
Under the canopy of two huge bridgban trees, with the dry surface underneath and considerable space to plant four to five tents, this place was indeed felt like made for camping. Our immediate surrounding was currently safe as well, though that’s just coincidental since the last time I ventured into these jungles, I barely got some leisure time to actually rest without fear of getting my life clawed away.
“Since I presume I hold the most experience of wild terrains amongst us here, I would like to take charge of delegating the roles of individuals.”
The Vice President stood up front and declared himself as the leader of this campaign without minding any suggestions from his fellow councilmen. We, freshmen, were far from the position to actually bring any objection despite having mostly spent my life in places like this.
From the looks of it, President Amanda was, as usual, uncaring toward her surroundings as always which allowed Phillip to do as he pleased.
“The first team would consist of two of the third years and one first year who would go hunting. The second team would take two first years and one of us for log collection, and the rest would remain here to arrange the tents. Is it acceptable, President?”
Oye oye. What’s this implication to the woman who is not even listening to what you just said?
As indifferent as she seemed, Amanda nodded carefreely for the Vice President to continue.
“Hey, you.”
I turned my eyes to face the short violet-haired treasurer who had her crisp gaze directed at me.
“Come with us for the hunt. You look durable enough.”
I didn’t know whether I should be happy for being complimented or should worry about what might happen for her to regard my endurance rather than my skills for hunting. Regardless, we were the juniors here so following their words until it doesn’t descend the lane is the most appropriate option.
My eyes went toward Rena for a bit since I knew she would be assigned with Jin and the Vice president for the wood collection before I saw an understanding look conveyed from her eyes as well.
Now it all depends on whether Jin’s suspicion is really valid to retain or if it is just him being paranoid.
I really hope the latter one is the case or tonight, it’s really going to be messy…

[Rena’s POV:]
“Now that Emily and Maegen have gone to finish their job, it’s better we don’t get left behind as well, right?”
This guy….creepy as heck.
I have been warned by my mother about certain individuals whom I should be wary of, and this dude was among them in the top three.
And even without the warning, I was certain that those slant eyes behind those thin-framed glasses were enough to make me more conscious about this man than others on this trip. Not just eyes but his very presence rubs in the wrong way for some reason.
“Shall we go?”
“Yeah,” I replied to Jin before we began to follow the blonde into the woods to collect some lumber. Silvie was left with President Amanda for the tent duty and for god sake, that girl seems so nervous around people that sometimes I feel worried for her.
I mean Amands surely is a hot shot in the academy but not like she would eat Silvie just because the latter looks delicious to the eyes.
If you are wondering then, no. I walk straight.
“You are the only child of legendary warrior Elena, right? I am a huge fan of hers.”
The bespectacled bastard spoke up in a cheeky tone, and his words might have surprised me if I didn’t know his background. The son of a mastermind trader digging out about my family is not something that could put me on edge.
“Is that so, then I can ask her to sign an autograph over a Pile for you.”
“Hmmm? But I do not possess a bunker to use the pile though.”
“Well, you may find another use of it for yourself…”
“…”
The steps of all of us came to an abrupt halt. Glasses turn to look at me. I stared back at him. And amidst that, a sudden sound of laughter erupted from my right.
“Pffthahahahahaha….”

[Silvie’s POV:]
‘What should I do… ‘
They left me alone with President Amanda to organize the tents without even asking for my consent. Though I was best suited for the job, still…this silent President is making it tough for me to even breathe properly.
Her solemn gaze was following me which I was aware of without visually confirming it. And for some reason, she seemed to be slightly pissed as well…or maybe I was too conscious of her presence.
Regardless, I engaged in my job and began to hammer the poles to form the frame before I could draw the canvas and finish my work. I have experience in camping since I lived as a refugee for a long duration before I became a student of the Excalius.
Despite trying to remain calm I was making silly mistakes once in a while in which the most recent example was…
“Auuuu…” A tear rolled down my left cheek as I mistakenly hammered over my thumb before I quickly stuffed it in my mouth to stop it from bleeding.
‘Wait… I am a healer… ‘Reminding myself, I healed my thumb which was still inside my mouth before I checked on it and fortunately, there was no bruise left on the spot.
I was about to continue my work when suddenly a voice arrived from my back.
“Hey, you.”
“Hai!”
My hammer dropped as I suddenly sprang onto my feet and twirled to look toward the source of the voice. This time it took a lot from me not to tear up from the painful sensation my feet suffered as I attentively waited for President Amanda’s words.
However, I never thought of the subject of her concern would be something like this…
“Can you…tell me something a-about Jin?”
