Let me be a mob! - Chapter 62- Friends\' support
[Silvie’s POV:]
I still was not aware of the reason why Jin asked me to sit with him in the same carriage but the look in his eyes expressed more than his words so I readily nodded and accompanied Rena and Aiden to the only vacant cart.
Surprisingly, despite the second carriage of the one where we three sat being occupied by the council members and President Amanda herself, no one chose to sit with the councilmen despite it being a great opportunity to get to know the prominent figures of the Academy and considering the reputation the President carries, being around her would provide maximum security.
I wonder why everyone ignored sitting with them…
We three sat leisurely in the carriage for some minutes before Jin arrived, looking a little more cheerful than before but as soon the carriage began to move his expression shifted to a solemn one.
I glanced at Aiden and Rena and the prior one also seemed a little apprehensive for some reason.
‘Ah… ‘Remembering the request Jin asked me before, I hurriedly closed my eyes before chanting a silencing spell around our portion of the carriage to block any eavesdropping. Sure this barrier could be broken but in that way, I would know if someone tries to override my spell and I would inform others.
“Is it done?”
Jin asked me the very second I parted my lids to which I nodded. I didn’t notice before but the distance between our shoulders was very less despite the seat having enough space to accommodate another person.
Distancing myself now would seem insulting and staying like that would surely put me on the edge.
What should I do…
“What’s going on, Jin? You invited us and made Fiona cry like that…is it really that important?”
Now that Rena said it, indeed the earlier look on Miss Fiona’s face seemed that she was not very pleased with the sitting arrangement, and considering her unhidden affection toward Jin, I could understand how she must be feeling.
But knowing Jin and how calculative he is, I knew he wouldn’t make Fiona sad for no reason.
And his following words proved my assumption to be right.
“I am sorry to say but I have probably dragged you guys to something messy.” Everyone had their undivided attention on Jin who continued after a small pause, “I would get targeted on this trip.”
“By whom?”
At Aiden’s query, Jin raised his thumb toward our left where the secondary carriage was being pulled in tow.
My eyes widened and a gasp involuntarily left my lips as I realized whom he was talking about.
“Seniors? Why would council people target you? I mean you did beat Amanda but I don’t think she’s that kind of…”
Rena trailed off her words since she already conveyed her thought which I also agree with.
President Amanda indeed had a strike record of coming out victories in any battle she faced in the Academy and Jin just broke that spree in the game they played some days ago. But she didn’t seem to be the kind of person who holds a grudge for something like that and from the words flowing in the air recently, Jin and the President have been seen together quite a few times before, indicating that their relationship was treading well.
Aiden looked equally perplexed as well at the statement as we waited for Jin to continue.
“I don’t know how much you guys know about the academy but the previous year eight students retired during the half semester for strange reasons despite the atmosphere was peaceful at that phase.”
“I have heard something about it since I have an acquaintance in the second year who kept me updated about Academy. But what does it have to do with this situation?”
Since Rena affirmed it neither I nor Aiden had to say anything about it rather the matter of concern remained at what Rena asked.
“You know the common thing about those eight students?”
Rena thought about it for some moments before she shook her head in denial before with a smirk Jin replied.
“All of them were male students.” The confusion remained but thankfully Jin didn’t let us wait for long before he followed with his riddles.
“There’s a psycho lover of the President currently occupying the secondary carriage who is mad enough for her to bisect any obstruction which goes near Amanda.”
The carriage fell into dead silence at the comment as I began to rummage through my memory to think about such a possible person who matches the personality of what Jin told us about.
“Vice-President Phillip Zaelensccop.”
Before I could realize the name flew out of my throat as I thought about the certain bespectacled vice president who fits accurately to Jin’s description and Jin’s surprised look affirmed that I landed at the right target.
“Woah…those glasses hide such vile feelings? Never knew…” Even Rena says it like that, during the spar between Amanda and Jin, she was the one who told me to be cautious of Vice-president.
Now that Jin pointed it out, that day in the gymnasium he indeed seemed the most restless and uncomfortable seeing Amends challenging and agreeing with Jin’s condition for the match.
And considering his background as much as I was aware of, for him to make some students disappear from the academy was not entirely unbelievable.
“Are you sure about this?”
Aiden’s query was answered with a brief but firm nod from Jin showcasing how severe this matter was.
Heavy silence befell in the carriage, everyone occupied with their thoughts. Despite he didn’t mention it, I could sense how uncertain and anxious Jin was most probably because he involved us.
Sure this could be a misunderstanding on Jin’s part or getting us involved might cause something more than we could think about. But despite that, not even for a second I regretted my decision nor did I think the other two held such thoughts as well.
And to prove my beliefs, Rena spoke up in her usual tone.
“So what’s the plan?”
Thankfully Rena broke the silence which I was unable to despite having the intention.
The look of relief evidently spread on Jin’s face as he thanked all of us with his gaze before the atmosphere once again turned heavy with Jin beginning to narrate everyone’s role in this peculiar trip.
“First I want Aiden to…..
