Let me be a mob! - Chapter 4- Entering the field!
It has been three weeks since I left my rebirth residence and been living like a wanderer ever since. I was easily able to escape from the guards stationed at the forest borders since my levitation reached up to more than I expected and in the night sky I was able to fly away without any hassle.
Since then I have been advancing toward the city named Mengalf which was two thousand kilometers away from Carter’s jurisdiction. I took shelter in three towns using the money I got from Gilbert and bought a map of the western province where I currently was.
Since I didn’t want to carelessly waste the limited money, I generally stayed in the jungle whenever I got the opportunity and killed wild animals for my meal. Just like any other isekai world, I found various adventurer and hunter guilds along the way but each one of them needs either identification or needs to be registered with the guild in order to trade beast products in exchange for money.
I was not sure how severe the matter with Baron has reached that’s why I used my fake name whenever asked and kept my face half hidden as much as possible.
Hunting some rankless or sometimes F-rank beasts wasn’t much tough but whenever I found danger increasing I escaped without taking much risk. I was getting better in my hunting skill but I was no protagonist with thick plot armor who can go against the high-ranking beast and still stay alive at the end of the day.
I did try to ambush an E-ranked Infernos Fox but what I got was three burn marks on my chest and one on my face. I got heavily injured but I was able to wound the animal as well. But the commotion was enough to call up a humungous B-rank Ertig Gorilla and I was in no shape or strength to fight that, so I just ran away.
I took some time and bought a low-ranking health recovery potion for a hundred gold coins to recover my injuries and prepare myself for the journey ahead.
Fortunately, I found a nice uncle on the route that was going in the same direction as me, so I got a free lift on his carriage.
Other than the fact that I was now left with only a hundred gold coins, nothing notable happened in the past few days ever since I neared Mengalf.
The border security was tight since this city was where the central headquarters of Duke Steve Lukehart was situated.
I wasn’t even able to resort to my levitation since there were artifacts planted to sense any intruders whether they enter from the depth of hell or fly above the clouds. I observed the guards for several days and noticed nobody leaving the town at all so I could silence them. Well, I was bullshitting since those guards were ranging from D to C ranks and if I tried anything funny, gods know where my corpse might end up.
‘Seems…there’s no other option eh…’
Tucking a piece of clothing across my face I covered the region beneath my eyes before I approached the line which was formed at the Western border of the city.
There were twelve guards stationed in total inside and outside the perimeter, each ranging from D to C rank. The reason I was able to tell their rank was because of my mana detection which has developed over time. I just had to memorize what each rank’s aura looks like and I was done.
Since I have only seen up to rank-A, I can identify someone having stats up to that rank. Above it would naturally make the detection blurry and inconsistent. But I don’t have to think about it now since there was only one high-ranking guard stationed here with his aura reaching an average C-rank.
Sitting on a chair with a table in front, the lean brown-haired man checked on everyone’s identification and asked for an entry fee as per the custom. In my case, I neither have an identity card nor enough money to pay the fees since I need it for something else.
However, I wasn’t planning on entering the premises in the general way at all.
“Identity and fifty gold drop here.”
The Western border in-charge raised his hand and lazily asked me to put the required things in his hand.
I glanced around for a bit before leaning forward and whispering my words as calmly as I can.
“Days might be bright, but it’s the night where we take our pride…”
On my words, which actually was a cringe ass secret code, the brown-haired guard shot up his eyes before he looked in my direction with a narrowed gaze as his aura slowly yet surely began to change.
“Who are you…where did you hear that…”
Thankfully he didn’t raise his voice meaning he didn’t suspect me completely. While maintaining my demeanor I took out the purple perfume bottle from my spatial ring as I said in my previous whispering tone.
“Black Faze 101, needs assistance. He waved the red flag.”
Hearing me mentioning the name which only some particular individuals should be aware of, the guard got seated back on his chair as he raised his hand for the guards who were approaching the scene. Seeing their senior gesture they stepped back.
The brown-haired man glanced at me once again, before he turned toward the guards who were standing at the entrance before he shouted what I desired.
“Let him in.”

‘Fuck…that was nerve-racking like hell……’
After walking in the city I rested myself in an alley after distancing myself from the border region. Crouching at my spot I calmed my breathing which grew unsteady ever since that guard grew suspicious of me.
The reason he got convinced so easily was because of three reasons.
First, I knew the code necessary to identify someone working for [The Mamba]. An underworld organization that engages in every kind of illegal stuff. The second reason was the code name of the person I took which was highly confidential and only be known to those who either are connected to the higher-ups or know the person whose code name is in question.
And third reason was, that the perfume I showed, despite being an ordinary one, goes perfectly with the plan Black Faze was trying to execute.
Black Faze or The Faceless which most people know is one hell of a criminal resting in the top ten list of bounty list. The man, whose real face no one has seen until now and always slips away from the scene, whatever degree of crime he partakes in.
The reason why The Faceless gets out of any circumstances was because of the support he gets from the Mamba organization.
Currently, The Faceless had a mission to kidnap and kill the daughter of Duke Steve Lukehart—Fiona Lukehart.
The potential successor of the Lukehart family and also one of the main heroines….

A/N: – I am not adding stuff that doesn’t add much to the main plot. Sure the pace would be slowed slightly once he reaches Academy but until then it will mostly go scene to scene with some action here and there…
