Let me be a mob! - Chapter 17- Assessment!
In the Academy, there are things like Student points and their ranks. Student ranks are something I was paying the most attention to since one’s ranking would decide where one would be given a seat.
High rankers would be sitting in the same class, which signifies that the protagonist among his five harem members would be present there as well. Well, one of them is a teacher so it’s inevitable that I would be getting in contact with her.
Every six months a rank re-evaluation takes place where a student tries to get better results and if already in the top ten or something, then those students have just to maintain their ranking.
It was true that not everyone can be taught mutually since students carry varying attributes.
Teleportation, Levitation, Healing, Immersion, and Lightning.
The practical classes would be separated according to a student’s attributes but some things don’t require differentiation. Like basic knowledge, the history of the world, and also mannerisms.
If about Student Points then they are a sort of currency in the school where students can exchange them in return for goods and services. Like buying a blade that can be exchanged for twenty points or something.
The source of gaining points was to always be attentive in class, raise your hand when questions are asked, and do well in exams. There are other methods as well, but the most common point of all the Points earning was that one has to remain in the spotlight if one wants to gain.
And I have no such plan at all that was why I have been thinking of something so I could earn enough money for my survival. I have only five hundred gold coins left which might not be a small amount but wasn’t enough as well for me to carry on without worrying about the future.
‘Well, I should think less for now…’
Shrugging off my weighing thoughts, I entered the big massive room which seemed like an indoor gym, and stood amongst the crowd.
Nylon mats, weighing bars, chains, and other equipment along with, two professional-looking guards nearby, and one female teacher with auburn hair and a cheery smile plaster on her face.
This was the place where the ability of the students would be tested and ranking would be added to students’ status plates. I roamed my eyes around and it didn’t take me long to find a familiar figure standing apart from the masses.
Well, I haven’t seen her in reality but seeing the same aesthetics as the person described in the novel, paved my surety that this person was none other than the main heroine, Princess Dia.
She is the third heir to the throne of the nation and also a phenomenal witch of her age who not only has awakened light magic but also holds traits of elemental wizardry as well. A prodigy to be born once in a century to say.
Long blond hair tied in a regular ponytail and a pair of oceanic blue eyes complimented her small and fairy-like face. Currently, she was wearing formal attire with a pair of formal high-waist trousers and a white shirt with frills near the collar.
To be honest, her figure was alluring and exactly to my taste but having such a high-caliber woman for myself was not something I truly desired. But still ogling at her wouldn’t hur-
‘Shit!’
I instantly retracted my gaze since the princess, who was motionless until now suddenly out of nowhere turned her head and started right into my eyes. The alignment was so straight that I had no doubt she was looking at me.
Despite me being standing in the crowd and her being alone, she saw me right through the people for some reason.
“Okay, now settle down. I will be calling names so come forward at once.”
Fortunately, the instructor called for the beginning of the assessment which made the princess look away since I still was able to feel her gaze on me. I might be extra conscious of it before but feeling someone’s eyes on me for so long couldn’t have been a misunderstanding.
I sighed and along with everyone lined side by side by the wall as the teacher stood some meters away and looked through the list of the students she had in her hand.
I had no idea what the average points for this round were or how much I should be scoring to remain an average student. The novel just detailed the protagonist’s assessment and all the heroines were just told that they passed with flying colors.
‘Well, there are a lot of guinea pigs for me to observe…’
That’s what I thought but…
“Jin Carter. Walk forward.”
“…”
As Jin heard his name, despite his mind being under a sensation of complete numbness he walked forward under the anxious and nervous gazes of everyone around him.
Every student gets pretty much restless when it comes to exams and looks closely at the first person who goes through the challenge. So it was clear how dense attention Jin must have been receiving at the moment, much to his frustration.
But he didn’t get any other option rather than to oblige as he heard the lady giving the instruction.
“Wear these around your ankle.”
Jin took two pouches like things that had muddy substances filled inside. Unlike its outer texture, the thing was quite heavy but not to the point where Jin would have struggled so he easily bound it with his ankles and got up to hear the following guidance.
“Your task would be to levitate and maintain a height of ten meters in the air. You can go higher but not beneath the minimum requirement since it would count as the completion of your assessment. For the second task, you would be provided with a weapon of your liking which you have to use to protect yourself from energy blasts. It won’t be lethal but it might hurt if it hits any critical point so be careful. Once an energy ball hits your body your assessment would conclude. And the last thing, the artifact you have bound yourself with, would increase its density by each minute so be aware of that. Am I clear?”
The auburn-haired teacher said it loud enough for every student standing in the audience to hear and since her words were simple and uncomplicated, just like Jin everyone else also understood the instructions.
Jin went toward the weapon stand which was just behind the lady and saw there was every weapon made of wood. Jin primarily thought to pick a shield since it would have been best in this situation but there was no protective armor at all.
‘Well, they can’t make it simple, can they?’
Signing with a helpless smile, Jin picked a normal wooden staff before he walked back at the mark as per instruction.
“Ready. Begin!”
Hearing the word, Jin poured mana through his channels and initiated his skill before his feet began to ascend in the open air. He purposely slowed down the activation of his magic because of obvious reasons.
Soon he crossed the ten-meter mark and halted himself just above the restriction. There was a blue neon glow all along the walls signifying the border of ten meters so a student doesn’t accidentally hover below.
There was a lantern-like artifact hanging in mid-air across the hall, facing Jin at the same height. Seeing how the lantern also halted just as Jin did, it was obvious what that thing was for.
*PIINGGG**
Like a church bell ringing, the lantern let a small blue orb out of its wide mouth before it traveled at an alarming rate toward Jin.
Some of the audience felt that the test was too challenging just by hearing the condition of the test but seeing the pace at which the orb shot out at Jin, they could only pray in their heart and also for the boy who would definitely be going to get thrashed brutally.
But…
“The hell?!”
“He just…brushed it off…?”
“Did he even move? Why didn’t I see him moving?”
“He did move, you idiot. Just necessary movements and he parried the orb…amazing.”
Jin, who should have at least shown a bit of surprise still levitated in mid-air with a lazy expression on his face despite having just now he shooed off such an accelerated attack.
Princess Dia, who was indifferent and seemed borderline bored until now had also her eyes sparkling. Not just because she was amazed at Jin’s ability but also…
‘It seems Fiona was right…it’s him…’
