Let me be a mob! - Chapter 13- Offering!
Spirits are heavenly beings that were seen in the form of small pixie-like flying objects to maintain life in their respective orbs, among which earth was also one.
These beings aren’t destructible and cannot be perished even by a god. Not entirely so to speak. The celestial beings are feared and respected every day and in form, in which one could witness them.
They are nothing but a source of infinite power to those who manage to gain a contract with said spirits and once they have proficiency with at least two from the six-spirit family, such a person would become mighty enough to be called a planetary threat worth entity.
However, how to connect with these supernatural beings and get along with them was yet to be found. There are ways, in elven history and some other races, but it was forbidden to converse such techniques to keep the world at peace.
Unlike Elves who never desired to be above the spirits and gain good from them, humans and other creatures are vile enough to exploit such chances so the conclusion remains pretty simple
If one could find a way to get contracted with Spirits then it’s their luck but elves do never break their oath to help any dangerous cause that could pose any kind of threat after attaining spirituality.
Of course, now there was an exception named Jin who not only stole a book that didn’t belong to him but he was going to perform the ritual which he never was meant to know.

I have been at this temple for two days as the night I could perform the ritual was today when the full moon was in its glory and inviting the spirits to be a little lenient under such a bloom.
Inside the temple, the curse was no longer valid so I was pretty much relaxed and was able to finally take a breather after a long time. It was so much necessary for my mind and body that I prayed to the spirits with tears in my eyes after arriving at this holy place.
For the last two days, I recovered using a potion and ate good food after hunting some rankless monsters and creatures around the vicinity without offering any commotion to invite unwanted engagement.
All my resources without knowing were utilized and left me with less than five hundred gold and some options along with my weapon held in the storage. To be honest, it pained me to drink the potion knowing their worth of it but at the time I was running like a fanatic, I knew saving the potions would lead to my ultimatum so nothing I can complain about.
‘I need to find ways of regular earning… ‘
Now that I am no longer connected with Carters I have to find a way to an income if I want to live a good life at Academy. They do provide necessities like dorm and study materials but just that. Using the same robe that hundreds of students have already worn and eating garbage food was not something I would prefer.
Leaving my appearance, until I am feasting something good, I would be living well in the Academy. But royal food requires royal coins and with my current financial condition, I would be able to enjoy a week’s worth of royalty.
There were four months left for the academy to open its gates for new enrolls, so before that, I could think of something.
‘I should be getting started… ‘
I didn’t see the time but it must be nearing midnight with the round white orb covered in some faint dark clouds hanging in the sky that gave me the green light I was waiting for.
To be honest, I was a little nervous about thinking what if I fail? Then again, not like I would be dying without Spirits so my anxiety came and went in swiftly as I took out a plain dagger from my spatial ring as well the book.
There was no main temple here, just six tombs around me with a circular altar in between where I knelt. No further structure or point of focus. Just the pillars and this round stone table.
Exhaling deeply, I opened the book of Spirituality which had written language I could not read at all but the fact remained that I have to not focus on the words but rather on myself.
Yes, the book required an offering, and the seeker of spirituality would be the one sacrificing his essence and bits.
‘Let’s see… ‘
As I have recalled the past two days from my memory of my past life, I have to first cut some of my hair.
“In the name of the greatest Gale: Anemus.”
Uttering the word of the Wind Spirit queen, I offered my hair and let it drop over the book’s first page. Before my grey hair strand could have touched the surface of the book, it burnt and disappeared in a flash. The book gave a small illumination signifying its response.
I was elated to see it was working but didn’t delay before making a small slash on the fleshy part on the side of my palm.
“In the name of greatest flame: Amber.”
The droplet of blood dripped and burnt in the same fashion until I didn’t see my regeneration covering the wound before I saw another illumination lighting up.
I sighed in relief before resuming the work before it drains down to waste.
Taking the dagger I sliced a portion of my forearm and carved an almost five-centimeter-long flesh piece with evident pain contouring my face.
“In the name of holy aqua: Undine.”
Again the same procedure as I let go of my flesh and worshiped the water spirit queen. I was not sure this much sacrifice would suffice since the novel it was written to grace the spirits with the worshipper’s different components.
And taking the way my segments are burning and illuminating the book, I assumed it would be fine.
‘Let’s see… ‘
Thanks to the poison I have already consumed before the ritual my upper half was going numb and the only reason my hand worked was because of mana fortification.
The next thing I had to offer was my bone so after closing my eyes, and pressing my hand on a stone slab, I chopped off my little finger.
‘Fuck…!! ‘
There was a sensation and it was hurting like hell, but I endured and continued my offering.
“In the name of grandeur Bulwark: Hepastus.”
Again the illumination shined thankfully, signifying I was able to please the four elemental spirits. Now the two most difficult and moody spirits were left and the offering was far greater in comparison as well.
I steeled myself and pressed my palms over the book with the blood from the slain finger still dripping out.
This time I was offering the very life essence which keeps a person alive in the world. Mana.
“In the name of vastest Liminal: Agashthia.”
Pouring mana through my fingertips I bucketed out my life energy slowly as I felt myself facing the side effects.
My mana reserve wasn’t huge so after three minutes of continuous pouring out, my vision began to become blurry, and my mind slid under numbness. I was feeling weaker than ever I could imagine.
But the book was yet to adapt its natural shine. It had begun to glow but it was faint and slowly rising, motivating me to go on until the last straw.
“Ugh…”
My breathing was fastened and sweat had already made my shirt transparent. For another five minutes and almost eighty percent of my mana was already spent and sucked into the book.
Blood was beginning to freeze and my heart numbing with the chills which might take away my life but biting my lower lip I continued to drain my mana. It was something I was aware of but experiencing it gave me another look at the matter.
I was on verge of collapsing as I felt almost ninety-five percent of my mana being sucked out when the book finally glowed to its full glory and by the other second, it went dim before returning to its original shade, implying have succeeded.
My vision was on the verge of shutting close with my body screaming in deathly pain as I halted my movement.
Before I could have collapsed front face I somehow managed to murmur under my breath as I brought the dagger over the tabletop and kept it straight just at the place where I was about to land.
“For…the love of…queen Eldith…I offer my soul..”
As Jin was about to say his eyes completely shut and the last thread of his energy was lost before fell front with the dagger still held tightly in his clutch, and with the momentum it impaled right through his heart.
On that night, Jin Carter died for the second time in his life.
