The following afternoon, I completed a demon hunting mission I had started in the morning, and took the steam train back to the Imperial City Central Station. Sharon and Erza were with me.
“In the end, Theo alone did it all, even though we accompanied him on his mission.”
“We were unneeded by Theo.”
We walked out of the station building and started to head back to the Imperial City Central Branch of the Musketeer’s Association. It’s not far from the station, and we can get there in just two minutes.
“…But there’s a part of me that’s glad you guys were there. Thanks to you guys, the two hour round trip train ride was a lot of fun.”
” … We’re no longer considered a fighting force.”
“Poor Sharon.”
“I feel sorry for you too! I’m not the only one! I may have downgraded a level but I’m still a《Four Wing》 and you’re a 《Three Wing》!
Sharon and Erza were bantering with each other. I pay it no mind since it’s an everyday occurrence now.
When we arrived at the central branch of the Imperial Capital, we headed to the reception desk.
“Sadie-san, I’m back.”
“Ah, welcome back, Theo-kun. Thank you for participating in the branch mission.”
“No problem, it was good for my rehabilitation.”
“Only you would treat a mission as rehabilitation.”
It might seem odd to others that I was the only one who would treat a mission as rehabilitation.
“Sharon-chan and Erza-chan, thank you for your hard work. In the meantime, please report the results of the fight.”
“Ummm… Sharon Dissuade, Four Wing, zero battle participation.”
“Erza Krugista, Three Wing, also zero battle participation.”
“Does that mean, Theo-kun did it all?”
“It’s not bad, right?”
“No, well, it’s totally fine, but …… these two aren’t weak. It’s amazing that they weren’t able to participate in the battle.”
“Thank you for the compliment, but I don’t think this result is amazing. I don’t think there’s any point in trying to get results in this state.”
For now, it’s not so much about the results but it is about how much I can recover myself in the process.
In order to eliminate the demons, and to erase the guilt of Instructor Miya, I have to regain my strength. For that, I need to double my training efforts.
“Sadie-san, is there any other mission I can accept? I can still go on.”
“Unfortunately, I don’t have any at the moment. So please rest for now.”
I was somewhat disappointed. Well, it can’t be helped.
After that, I said goodbye to Sharon and Erza, and left the Central Branch of the Imperial Capital.
During the evening of the same day.
“Th-Theo-kun ?”
After eating dinner and taking a bath, I was ready to go to bed.
I was drinking a glass of hot milk before going to bed when I was approached by the instructor sitting across the table from me. The pajama-clad instructor, who was also drinking hot milk, had a tense expression on her face, as if she didn’t accept the relaxing effect that the milk was supposed to bring her.
“What is it?”
When I prompted her to talk, she took a sip of the hot milk, inhaled and exhaled, told herself to calm down, and then looked me straight in the eye.
“Umm, you know what…?”
“… Yes.”
“This may come as a surprise to you, but…”
“… Yes.”
“To-Tomorrow. ……”
“… Yes.”
“Would you like to go on a date?”
“… Eh?”
The atmosphere was unusual, but her words were much more unexpected.
For a moment, my mind went blank. Date. It’s the most distant word in my life.
“Umm… are you seriously asking me?”
I finally managed to ask her that.
Even though I hadn’t done it recently, the instructor had rejected my advances.
It didn’t make sense to me that she asked me that.
However, despite my confusion, the instructor had a serious look on her face when she suddenly asked me out on a date.
“Listen, Theo-kun, I’m serious. I just wanted to give you some more energy.”
“… Energy?”
“Yes. Of course, I also want to help you heal. You seem to be doing well as a sniper, but I don’t want you to stop there, I want you to work even harder, so…”
“Instructor…”
The instructor’s voice was so serious that it was rude for me to be confused. Her eyes were straightforward, as if she was only thinking about my well being.
It looked as if there was a hint of anxiety in them.
She was almost crying, as if she was regretting offering me a date, wondering if I would reject her or if she was just being a nuisance.
Seeing this, I instantly cut off all unnecessary thoughts.
Now that I know the instructor is serious, I know what my answer is.
“I understand, Instructor. I’ll accept that date”. The instructor leaned forward on the table and looked at me.
“It’s true. Can I look forward to having fun with you?”
“Of course!”
The instructor sounded very happy when I asked her.
“You know, Theo-kun, it’s actually quite abrupt. So, I haven’t decided on a plan or anything like that yet, so I was wondering if you could tell me what kind of date you’d like to go on.”
“Hmm… Anyway, anywhere is fun as long as it’s with you, Instructor.”
“I see… Understood. Well, look forward to tomorrow, okay?”
“I’m raising the bar a bit high.”
“I-I’ll show you that I can surpass it!”
Instructor Miya clenched her fist firmly. Her ponytail fluttered out and she let her hair down… Oh?
“Ara… it looked like the ribbon got torn off.”
The instructor picked up the ribbon that had fallen to the floor and muttered to himself with a wry smile.
“It was my favorite, but I’ve been using it for years, so I guess I can’t help it.” She put it in her pocket without seeming particularly depressed.
“Anyway, let’s have fun on our date tomorrow, Theo-kun.”
“Yes, I’m looking forward to it.”
So, I went to bed early to prepare for tomorrow.
The morning of the date.
I was standing near the entrance to the bustling downtown area of the Imperial City.
I was alone. It’s not that my date didn’t happen, it’s just that the instructor sent me off to the meeting place first.
“… Date huh?”
There are many times when I have done things alone with the instructor, such as going out, shopping, or on a joint mission. But we’ve never gone out on a date.
I felt strangely nervous. I guess I’m thinking too much. I’m too caught up at the word ‘date’. After all, it’s just the two of us spending time alone, and frankly speaking, it’s no different from any other time.
Yes, all I had to do was just enjoy the time with the instructor. I should just relax and not waste the instructor’s desire to give me energy and healing. I took a deep breath… and prepared myself for the instructor’s arrival.
In the midst of all this, I suddenly wondered. Was it okay to go empty-handed like this?
Since it was our first date, shouldn’t I bring some kind of gift? Even if it’s for my healing, the instructor has always supported me in many ways, and I wanted to give her something in return.
But what should I give her? I’m going on a date now, and I need something not too bulky…
“That’s right!”
There was something that suddenly came to my mind. I hurried to a nearby grocery store, found the item I wanted, had it wrapped, and quickly returned to the meeting place. I was relieved to see that the instructor hadn’t arrived yet.
It was during this time that I saw an unexpected person.
“…Hm?”
The man walked past by me on the side of the road.
I was surprised to see a man with ash gray hair that covered his ears. There was no mistaking it, it was a man with a well-defined face.
I’m sure it’s Galesciano.
“That guy, he’s even been reported to the branch… what is he doing here?”
When I met Sadie, she said that Galesciano has been missing lately, and it seems that his parents are concerned about his safety.
This guy is on his way, going to some place. I don’t care where, but now that I’ve seen him, I should probably talk to him. I don’t want to talk to him if I can help it, but the situation calls for it.
I went after Galesciano. He went into an alleyway, so I followed him. But…
… He’s not here?
When I went into the back alley, I lost sight of Galesciano. I couldn’t even feel his presence. Even though it’s a bit troublesome, it shouldn’t be this easy to lose him…
At that moment, I saw a figure in a black robe out of the corner of my eye. I thought to myself, “What’s going on?” I turned the corner and went to see what I could see. But…
Was it just my… imagination?
I turn towards the corner and there’s nothing there. Galesciano was nowhere to be found.
I was tempted to look around a bit more, but with the date coming up, I didn’t have time for anything else.
… For now, I’ll just let Sadie know about the sighting.
With that in mind, I left the back alley and went to the Central Branch of the Musketeer’s Association, near the train station, and told Sadie-san, who was at the reception desk again today, about the Galesciano sighting.
“I see, thank you, Theo-kun. I heard that he had disappeared somewhere, but just being able to confirm his existence is a relief for now.”
“Well, I’ll be going now.”
“Ah, by the way, Theo-kun, you’re going on a date with Miya, right? I gave her a little advice last night on how to plan the date, so please look forward to it.”
“So she went to the bar last night while I was sleeping…? She’s not getting any younger, so I hope she gets some rest.”
“Well, well. I’m sorry, but I’m the one who invited her, so please forgive her. If you don’t go soon, Miya will come. Theo-kun, goodluck!”
“Yes… I’m off then.”
