- I Was Stranded on a Deserted Island with a Beautiful Classmate
- Chapter 26 - A Fateful Strike Against Evil
“I should probably check what happened to Kurashima, just to be sure.”
As I began to walk, something hit my foot.
“Hm…what’s this? Oh, it’s Kurashima’s gun.”
When I picked it up, it felt heavy. Wow, this thing is real.
“Hayasaka-kun, is that…”
“Yeah, Amane. It’s a real gun. One bullet left.”
Honestly, it’s too dangerous, and it’s illegal to carry, considering the gun control laws. But fortunately, this is an uninhabited island. Kurashima’s threat hasn’t been completely eliminated, so I’ll hold on to it for self-defense.
After all, there’s only one bullet left. Once it’s empty, I’ll explain everything to the police.
As I was thinking that, Kitakami was looking at the gun with envy.
“A real gun…How on earth did he get his hands on it?”
“I don’t know. I didn’t think he had something like this.”
It’s not something a high schooler can easily acquire. So…maybe his parents are part of some shady world or he got it through the black market.
Either way, Kurashima’s bad news.
“Well, what should we do now?”
“We’ll head forward. I need to check what happened to Kurashima.”
I only hit him with a log, so he shouldn’t be dead. His ribs might be broken, though.
As I was about to walk again, Amane grabbed my arm.
“It’s too dark ahead. It’s dangerous.”
“But we can’t just sleep here peacefully without checking.”
“Well, that’s true, but…”
“My phone’s battery is below 40%. It’s tight, but I’ll use the flashlight.”
“Wait. I feel bad always making you do everything, Hayasaka-kun. I’ll shine the light.”
“But…”
“It’s fine. You’re always protecting me. I want to help, even if it’s just a little.”
With her pleading look, I couldn’t refuse. I asked Amane to be in charge of the light.
“Alright, let’s move forward.”
We advanced slowly. I didn’t think Kurashima had been thrown too far, but this cave gets steep further in, and it seems to connect to somewhere.
Maybe Captain Kidd’s treasure is hidden here—just kidding.
We cautiously proceeded. Thanks to Amane’s LED light from her phone, we could see clearly. Droplets of water dripped down, trailing along my cheek.
It was cold. This place was filled with a chilling, ghostly air.
It felt as cold as winter and as quiet as midnight.
What happened to Kurashima?
I had been walking quite a bit with the gun ready, but there was no sign of him.
“…Hayasaka-kun.”
“Wha—! Amane, don’t grab my clothes suddenly. You scared me.”
“S-Sorry. But Kurashima isn’t here, is he?”
“Y-Yeah…It’s strange. What do you think, Kitakami?”
Kitakami, who was following us, pulled on my clothes as well. Now they’re competing? But, for some reason, I found it kind of cute.
“Even if he was thrown, it’s probably only about five to ten meters. I doubt it’s any further than that.”
Yeah. By now, we should have found him, but there was no sign, not even his fallen body.
As we kept moving, the sound of flowing water became audible. Was there a water source deeper in?
“Could it be an underground lake?”
“It’s possible. We are near the sea, so it wouldn’t be strange if the cave connects to it.”
Kitakami’s theory made sense. It seemed the cave’s underground might be connected to the sea.
Soon enough, we reached what appeared to be the place. Large rocks surrounded the area, and there was more moisture in the air. The ground was muddier too, clear signs of a water source.
“There it is. It’s the lake.”
“Wow…This is the underground lake…The water is so clear and blue.”
It was as beautiful as an aquamarine gemstone. What a mysterious place.
But more importantly…
It was very bright on the other side of the cave. Could this be how Kurashima appeared? Did he come from here?
As I admired the cave’s scenery, something jumped out from behind the rocks. It was Kurashima! He was hiding there!
“Kuhahaha! You let your guard down, Hayasaka!!”
He was holding large stones in both hands. Is he planning to beat me to death with those?
“You just don’t give up, do you?”
“My ribs are wrecked thanks to you. It hurts…it hurts so damn bad!! But pain like this…I can handle it with drugs!!”
Kurashima’s eyes were bloodshot. He’s completely lost it!
“You criminal! Not only guns, but you’re also messing with drugs. What kind of environment did you grow up in?”
“Ha! My old man’s the head of a crazy organization. We have as many illegal guns as we want, and explosives too. I can use all the drugs I want. I even used the organization’s power to pull off this plan.”
So that’s how it is.
As I was processing that, Amane muttered under her breath.
“So he’s part of a crime syndicate.”
“Yeah, that’s Kurashima’s upbringing. He went mad because of it and dragged us into this mess, all for his own desires.”
But this ends here. For the peace of this island and for everyone to return safely.
I aimed the gun.
“…Hayasaka, you’re not going to shoot. You’re just some wannabe acting cool!!”
“Think whatever you want.”
The revolver doesn’t have a manual safety. All I had to do was pull the trigger, and the bullet would fire.
Even a monkey could do it. That’s all there was to it.
I aimed at Kurashima’s chest.
But he moved quickly, making it hard to get a clear shot.
Is he trying to throw me off?
Still, I’ll protect everyone. Some of our classmates have probably already died. I have to avenge them too.
This is it…!
A tremendous gunshot rang out—and hit Kurashima squarely in the chest.
“Gahhh…!!!”
He dropped the stones and collapsed, his eyes rolling back. With a loud splash, he fell into the lake.
Kurashima’s body sank into the water. Did I…finally finish him?
“Hayasaka-kun…you did it.”
“Yeah, I hit him. I felt it…but now I…”
“No, this was clearly self-defense.”
“But…”
“Kurashima was the mastermind behind the terrorist attack that sank the boat. He also stalked Amane-san and took her hostage. He tried to enslave girls on this island. And just now, he threatened us with a gun. We genuinely feared for our lives. It couldn’t be helped.”
Kitakami reassured me.
That’s right. Kurashima put us through so much.
But my hands are shaking.
This is the first time I’ve killed someone.
“…Hayasaka-kun, it’s okay. Even if the whole world turns against you, I’ll always be on your side. I’ll protect you no matter what.”
“Amane…thank you.”
“If we get back and face backlash, let’s move abroad. I’m good at English, so leave it to me.”
Amane…she’s an angel. She’s staying by my side through this.
I’m so happy I could cry.
“Hey, I’m on your side too!” Kitakami chimed in.
“You too, Kitakami? Really?”
“Of course! I even have friends overseas. You can count on me.”
“That’s reassuring. Thank you.”
“N-No problem…! But I can’t believe you really fired the gun.”
“To stop Kurashima’s rampage, I had no other choice. If we had let him run loose, he would’ve turned this place into his slave empire.”
The victims wouldn’t have found peace otherwise.
That’s why I had to deliver justice myself. That’s all there is to it.
If the world doesn’t accept it and demands that I pay for this crime, I’ll take the punishment. I’m ready for that.
But if these two are on my side…I’ll be fine.
“Wait, Kurashima’s body isn’t here.”
Amane peered into the lake. I looked too, but Kurashima’s body was nowhere to be seen.
“He probably sank. The lake looks deep.”
“Yeah, that makes sense. Let’s go back. I don’t want to come this way again anytime soon.”
“Agreed. The water’s beautiful, but…I’ll pass.”
Maybe we’ll block this path with a log.
Anyway, I defeated Kurashima. Now we can return to our normal lives.
“…Bubbling…?”
Huh…? The surface of the water seemed to bubble.
No way…must be my imagination.
