I Was Oblivious to the Subtle ‘Yandere’ Side of My Nonchalant Sex Friend Gyaru - Chapter 60-61
Chapter 60:

“I know it’s quite out of the blue, but I’m getting married soon.”
It was during a slow shift after the Obon holidays. The manager suddenly came out and said that.
“Ehh?? Congratulations! Wow, that’s so nice!”
The first to get all excited was Asou-san and I followed right after.
“Congratulations.”
“Thanks, both of you. So actually, the wedding is scheduled for next month.”
“You weren’t kidding when you said ‘out of the blue’…”
“The dates further out were already booked up. It’s just going to be a small ceremony with close family, so that’s how it goes.”
“I see. But either way, it’s still something to celebrate.”
Next to me, Asou-san was bombarding him with questions about the dress and what he said during the proposal and all that, but the manager looked like he had something he wanted to say to me specifically.
“Aoyama-kun, you do your best too.”
“Do you mean at work?”
“At work, with your studies, and in love too. You’re popular, so I’m sure your girlfriend is feeling on edge.”
“Please don’t make me sound like some womanizer.”
“Haha, sorry, sorry. But being kind to everyone doesn’t necessarily equal being truly kind, you know?”
“What do you mean by that?”
“If you’ve got a girlfriend, being kind to other girls isn’t always the right thing to do.”
“…Is that coming from your personal experience Manager?”
“More or less. My girlfriend used to get mad at me all the time. I was a lot like you, back in the day.”
“You were, Manager?”
“Well, I didn’t have your popularity, though. It’s all about knowing when to rein in the meddling. Especially once there’s someone you really need to protect.”
As he said that, Asou-san was nodding along beside him. It didn’t entirely sit right with me, but then Asou-san asked me this question teasingly.
“You wouldn’t like it if your girlfriend had dinner alone with another guy, would you?”
“Well, yeah, I guess I wouldn’t feel great about it.”
“See? Even if the guy had something really important he wanted to talk about, the question is whether it’s worth hurting someone you truly care about to do that.”
“…I mean, I guess I can see where you’re coming from.”
“Hehe, you’ll get it someday. So if you’re ever going to have dinner with me, make sure to bring your girlfriend along.”
Saying that, Asou-san headed to the back. The manager also returned to the kitchen.

Chapter 61:
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
The end of summer vacation was dawning near. In the end, I couldn’t get any time off from work, so I hadn’t gone anywhere. That was why, at the very least, I was out shopping with Kurenai today.
“Oh my? If it isn’t Yuzuha?”
An unfamiliar voice called out to Kurenai.
“…Mariko, what do you want?”
“What, nothing really, I just said hi. Out on a date with your boyfriend?”
“Yeah, so what?”
“So cold. We’re classmates, you know.”
“Not anymore. We go to different schools now.”
Seeing how clearly Kurenai showed her displeasure, I immediately got a sense of what was going on. This girl standing in front of us was probably a classmate of Kurenai’s from middle school and she was in the softball club.
“Huh, so that’s how it is. Even though thanks to you quitting softball in high school, all our recommendations were canceled and we had a really hard time.”
She said it with a laugh, but her tone was dripping with sarcasm. While I was still trying to figure things out, wondering if that was really what happened, Kurenai said bluntly beside me,
“If you couldn’t get into school without riding my coattails, that means you’re just that pathetic.”
Something about those words was oddly satisfying. At the same time, of course, the girl on the receiving end got mad.
“Hah? This is your fault for being selfish! You said we’d all go to the same high school and play softball together!”
“And who do you think made me feel like I didn’t want to do that?”
“What did you just say?”
Just as the girl was about to lunge at Kurenai, I stepped in between them.
“Hey, that’s enough.”
“Who the hell are you? I don’t care if you’re Yuzuha’s boyfriend or whatever, stay out of our conversation.”
“You’re seriously annoying, whining about something that’s already over. Don’t ruin our date.”
I said it in a firm tone I normally wouldn’t use with a girl. Clearly irritated, she muttered.
“Don’t get cocky, seriously.”
And then, she stormed off somewhere.
“…Good grief.”
“Hey. You don’t have to go out of your way to defend me.”
“I didn’t go out of my way. She just pissed me off.”
“What Mariko said was true. That’s the kind of person I am.”
Kurenai turned away, unable to hide her irritation, and I didn’t know what to say to her. But somehow, I found her attitude endearing. So I gently took her hand.
“…What? I’m not sulking or anything.”
“No, you are sulking. But I’m on your side, no matter what.”
“If you keep saying stuff like that, you’re going to end up with more enemies.”
“That’s fine. Your enemies are my enemies.”
“What is that supposed to mean? Did you quit being everyone’s hero of justice?”
“Yeah. I want to be someone who can protect the person important to me.”
Besides, if Kurenai is ever in the wrong, I want to be the one to scold her. And if I’m wrong, I want her to be the one to correct me.
“Because I love you, Kurenai.”
“…Saying stuff like that is cheating.”
“I can only say it when I’ve got momentum like this.”
“Then…”
Kurenai, blushing slightly, said.
“Minato.”
“Huh?”
“…I can’t say this without momentum either.”
Saying that, Kurenai quickly walked ahead of me.
