Episode 7: The Class Trip Group Assignment… I’m Screwed.
A week had passed since the entrance ceremony. I’ve managed to survive, and I’m getting by as a background character, or rather…
“That’s impossible! The infamous Nishikouji hasn’t caused any trouble in an entire week?!”
“No one’s been attacked yet?!”
“Seriously? That guy who used to buy women with power, is he really behaving now?!”
“I heard he’s reformed since high school.”
“Isn’t he just pretending to be quiet?”
That’s the kind of gossip going around.
It’s clear that Nishikouji’s reputation is beyond repair. He’s basically being treated like some kind of yakuza.
Meanwhile, the protagonist has started interacting with the heroine—Sasaki Kanata.
Sasaki Kanata is the “cutesy small animal” type. She has black bobbed hair and pink-tinted eyes. She’s petite, standing at 148 cm, and has a rather curvy body. According to game info, her cup size is F… She works at a maid café and is into social media. She’s also a “private account girl,” with a bit of a “menhera” (mentally unstable) side. But there’s a reason for that—apparently, she never received love from her parents and faced intense bullying in elementary school, leaving her feeling lonely for a long time. To fill that void, she turned to social media.
At school, she acts cheerful, playing the role of the class idol, but she starts showing an interest in the protagonist, who stands up to being bullied by Nishikouji, despite everything.
So, how did I know they’d come into contact?
The first time the protagonist and Kanata meet is at the maid café where she works. She had kept it a secret from her classmates, but asked the protagonist to keep it quiet. Naturally, he agrees, but it turns out they’re seated next to each other.
From there, it was easy to tell that things had gotten a bit awkward between them after that day.
Anyway, if these two just start dating on their own, that’s fine by me. I’ve got Narita as a friend, and if things stay as they are, I’m content. I can’t act like the villain anymore, so just let me stay in the background.
As I zoned out thinking about it, the teacher entered the classroom.
“Okay, today’s homeroom will be the class trip group assignment. Since we haven’t really gotten to know each other yet, we’ll draw lots to decide the groups.”
Great. I wanted to go with Narita, but it doesn’t seem like I’ll make any other friends in this class.
“Alright, let me read off the first group. Group 1: Narita, Kido…”
The teacher continued calling out names.
As long as I’m not in the same group as Sasaki, I’m fine. But too bad, I guess—Narita and I are in different groups.
“Group 5: Nishikouji, Sasaki, Yamada, Miki.”
Wait, what? Did I just hear that right?
For a moment, I couldn’t believe my ears, but sadly, it seems like this is real.
As soon as everyone in my group had their names called, they all looked down. They probably don’t want to be with me.
“Okay, that’s the last group. Now, please decide your group’s destination for the trip.”
This trip is a free-roaming trip, so we need to choose where we’re going, as mentioned during yesterday’s closing announcements.
At the teacher’s words, everyone started moving. However, my group seemed to be dragging their feet. Of course, that includes Kanata, who’s been at this school since middle school. She looked a bit confused too.
“So, where should we go?”
Everyone gathered at my desk.
They all looked at me with fearful expressions. I feel really sorry about it.
“Is there anywhere you’d like to go, Sasaki?”
A girl named Yamada hesitantly asked.
“Well… I’d like to eat some good desserts. I’ve heard there are a lot of cafes around.”
“Desserts? That sounds good. I want some too.”
Despite the completely frozen atmosphere, Kanata spoke cheerfully. It’s amazing. She really lives up to her reputation as the queen of “cutesy charm.”
“How about you, Nishikouji? Any place you want to go?”
“I don’t mind. We can go anywhere you all want.”
“I see! Then let’s pick a place from the ones we want to go to. How about it, everyone?”
“Yeah, let’s all come up with ideas.”
Thanks to Kanata, the atmosphere relaxed. She was just as charming as described in the original story, but seeing her in person, I have to admit she’s really cute. In the original work, her yandere side was more emphasized, so seeing her cheerful side is quite touching.
“Okay, it’s decided! Let’s go with this route. Let’s all enjoy the trip!”
By the end of class, everyone had been enveloped in Kanata’s warm atmosphere.
