Some time had passed since that incident, and midterm exams were already over. Time flies. Saida stopped coming to school—or rather, he transferred. Well, after everything that happened, it’s not surprising he’d find it hard to show up.

“Nishikikouji-san, can you come to the staff room after class?”  “Oh, sure. I’m free.”Right after class ended, my homeroom teacher stopped me. 

Did I do something? At least since that incident was resolved, I’ve kept a low profile. I couldn’t think of anything I might have done, so I entered the staff room nervously. When I approached my teacher’s desk, I saw that it wasn’t just my teacher there—

“Oh, Nishikikouji’s here!” It was Nagitsuki. “So, you want me to tutor Asahina-san?”

“Yes, that’s right. You see, the teacher who handled her last supplementary lesson suggested that it might be easier for her to understand if someone her age helped her rather than an adult. 

And since you ranked first in the midterms, they thought you’d be the perfect candidate. If you agree to this, your internal report card score will get a significant boost.”

“I see…” This may make me sound like a jerk, but I want to avoid interacting with the heroine as much as possible. In other words, I desperately want to decline. But wait, how does this work now? 

Since there’s no longer any connection to the protagonist, is it safe to interact with the heroine? I don’t know. I’d rather minimize the risk of triggering a death flag…

“Nishikōji, please! My mom loves baking, so I’ll bring snacks to the study sessions. Plus, my grandpa runs a hot spring, so you’d get free access anytime! I don’t know anyone else well enough to ask, and I’d be too nervous to study with someone else. If I can’t find anyone, I’ll get assigned five hours of homework every day during summer break! So, please…!”

Her eyes were starting to fill with tears. Ugh, it’s hard to say no to this… Honestly, rejecting this would make me a terrible person. Five hours of daily homework during summer break is just cruel…

“I mean, I get it if you’re busy, Nishikōji, and only if you can… But, please.”
“Oh, uh, yeah. I’ve got time. It’s fine. Let’s study together until the finals.”

I answered without thinking. I’ve just gotten myself closer to her. This is bad, right? But there’s no way I could’ve turned her down.

“Really? You’ll do it?” Nagitsuki’s eyes lit up immediately.

“Thank you so much! Honestly, I wanted it to be you, Nishikikouji. I wasn’t sure what I’d do if you said no!”

She threw her arms up in a celebratory “yay.” I mean, yeah, it’s super awkward to study with someone you don’t know.

“So, let’s talk later about what days work best for you. Seriously, thanks again, Nishikikouji!”
“It’s no big deal. Just tutoring. Plus, I’ve got plenty of free time.”

It’s my second time through everything, so it’s just a review. And I don’t even go to cram school, so there’s that, too.

“Wow, you’re like a god, Nishikikouji-sama! Hehe, I’m so happy. I always wanted to get closer to you, and now we’ll get to spend even more time together!”

At Nagitsuki’s comment, the teacher sitting right in front of us widened their eyes. I mean, it’s not something you’d normally say to a friend of the opposite gender unless you’re close. But what’s scary about Nagitsuki is that she says stuff like this completely unconsciously.

“Well, anyway, just do your best to get good scores on the next test.”  “Okay! I’ll do my best! Nishikikouji, looking forward to working with you!”  “Y-yeah. Same here.”

I nodded. Still, judging by Nagitsuki’s demeanor, these study sessions are shaping up to be… worrisome.
