Chapter 42: New Storm

The eye-shaped cloud reminded me of the Eyes of Providence. The cloud loomed over me with thunder roaring all around it. 

Who would’ve thought this girl is the founder of Genesis…

Persephone looked like a fragile girl at first glance but looking at her now, shivers ran down my spine at how frightening she was. 

I had a mutually beneficial relationship with Rhea-sama and Selene-sama. Since the two of them were the princess of this kingdom, that meant this group was my enemy. After all, the purpose of this group was to overthrow the current governor. 

However, I had no intention of attacking Persephone either. Why? Because currently, I was at a disadvantage. I’d be the one losing the most had I tried to face Persephone now. 

First, I need to help Elena-sama. 

Thinking so, I ran to Elena-sama, who was still convulsing on the ground. 

“Kanato…”

“Elena-sama…”

Elena-sama reached her hand out to me, seemingly begging me to take her hand. Her hands were trembling all over, her face looked devoid of any hope. She looked like a child who had lost sight of their parents. 

I firmly grabbed her slender hand. I turned to Persephone, who was still floating in the air. She opened her mouth to speak. 

“Kanto.”

“….What?”

“Do you think this world is fair?”

“…..”

I looked down, unable to answer her question. 

“Genesis will bring true equality. In Genesis, commoners and slaves are working together equally. It’s a small utopia to those who had been hurt by the noble. Here, we encourage each other to run towards the same goal together.”

“…….”

“A bunch of kind people who had been dominated by the nobles. They had caused us so much suffering. Together, we will create a happier world, manifesting the omnipresent ideal world.”

I continued to hold Elena-sama’s hand tightly, remaining silent. 

There are two reasons why I’m not fighting back. If I argue back, Persephone will get upset. 

And the second reason is…

I can’t say it.

Just thinking about it already makes me feel so ashamed of myself. It makes me feel so evil. 

As if she could see through my feelings, Persephone looked at me warmly. 

“Let’s meet again. I want to talk more with you, Kanato. More and more… Until I’m full of you.”

Leaving only those words behind, Persephone entered the Eyes of Providence. Her figure disappeared into the eyes and the cloud quickly dispersed. The sky returned to its normal state and the sounds of nature entered my ear again, as if nothing had happened.

The rippling of the stream, the rustling of the leaves, the cries and footsteps of what seemed to be monsters or animals, the gentle night breeze cressing my cheeks… The eternal symphony of nature resumed but this time, I could hear a hint of discordant note mixed in. 

The sound of something burning. 

The beam Persephone had fired earlier was still melting the surrounding soil and rocks. It didn’t seem to be emitting heat though but seeing the ground melting into pitch-black substance with dark bubbles popping out and off, I couldn’t help but to tremble. 

“Kanato…”

“Elena-sama.”

Distracted by the pitch-black substance, I was returned to my senses by Elena-sama’s voice. I looked at her, she was still lying beside me. 

“It seems she’s gone now.”

“Yeah.”

“….”

“Jeff-sama and the others must be waiting for us. Can you stand up?”

“….I can’t.”

“I see…”

The most efficient way to transport her from here to the villa is… Yes. Using a drone. It’s easy and quick. There are only the two of us on this mountain. It’s dark enough so I guess I can summon a large drone to help us. 

Thinking so, I focused my mind to summon a large drone when suddenly, Elena-sama touched my thigh with her other hand. 

“Elena-sama?!”

Surprised, I yelled her name. She quickly averted her gaze and muttered softly.

“On your back….”

And so, I decided to carry her down the mountain on my back. 

I was very nervous. My body felt tense and I had to focus my mind to move my legs. After all, I had a beautiful lady on my back, someone who would inherit the duchy nonetheless.

Her fine, golden hair cascaded over my cheek. The silky strand of hair carried an indescribable fragrance to my nose. Her arms were wrapped around my neck and most importantly, I could feel the exquisite mounds of flesh pressed against my back. The soft sensation seemed to emphasize her charm as a woman. 

I was holding onto her thighs to prevent her from falling. Of course, that meant I had to dig my rough hands into Elena-sama’s sculpted thighs. 

Elena-sama… You’re way too defenseless with me.

Since Elena-sama always maintained an aura of dignity whenever we were around, I was a bit excited to see this vulnerable side of her. That being said, she must had been cornered to the brink for her to show this weak side of her. 

“Elena-sama.”

“Yeah…?”

“What did you see?”

“….”

When I asked her that, she trembled again. She held me even tighter as she spoke. 

“I saw the past of many people.”

“The past?”

“The past of the slaves and commoners who were tortured by the nobles.”

“Elena-sama, you’ve dedicated your life fighting in wars and you even fought against the demon king’s army. And yet… Seeing the past of the slaves and commoners affected you this much…”

“I didn’t just see it. I could feel it being done to me.”

“Feel?”

“I became a commoner and a slave. I was put through countless suffering. If Kanato didn’t speak to Persephone to plead for me, by now… I would have…”

Elena-sama choked up on her words. She rubbed her nether regions against my back, further tightening the vice her thighs had on my waist before she rested her head against my neck. 

“Elena-sama…”

“Because you said I was someone important to you, I was able to withstand it.”

“…”

Her sweet breath entered my nostrils and mouth, stimulating me. 

“But.. I have to work hard… So Kanato won’t go far away from me…. So Kanato will keep calling me your important person. I need to work harder than I am now. I’ve always been on the receiving end of your help after all.”

Elena-sama said, seemingly lacking in confidence. 

It seemed she was worrying about unnecessary stuff. 

“You don’t need to work hard. Elena-sama, you are fine just the way you are.”

“-!!”

“Elena-sama?”

She didn’t respond even when I called her name. She continued to shiver and entrusted her whole body weight on me. 

I wonder what kind of illusion Elena-sama was forced to endure?

In fact…

Was it an illusion?

Or someone’s past. 

If it’s just an illusion, then Persephone must be very skilled. However… If each illusion is actually someone’s past… Just how strong the members of Genesis are? And where are they hiding?

Keltz nodded, satisfied at the report and smiled.

“Wait.”

Keltz stopped the butler who was about to leave. 

“Are there any nobles approaching Kanato?”

“Not at the moment.”

“I see… But we mustn’t let our guard down. Those arrogant nobles in Halkeginia may not know Kanato-kun’s true worth yet, which is a blessing for our side but if we were born in another kingdom, people would be fighting tooth and nail to get Kanato-kun to their side. We must protect him at all costs!”

“Understood!”

“However, pulling him to our side with brute force won’t do. Kanato-kun is smart. We must show him our effort and do our best to win him over.”

“I can’t agree more, Sir!”

While the two of them were engrossed in their conversation, suddenly a knock could be heard from the door.

“Hannah’s here! There’s something important I need to talk about with Keltz-sama…”

Hannah’s voice came from beyond the door. She sounded flustered. 

Immediately realizing Hannah must be bearing important news, Keltz dismissed the butler and called Hannah in. 

“Hoo… It’s rare to see you so unsettled. What happened?”

“We-Well… It’s about the information we received from the Percy family’s spy that we kept alive the other day…”

Although Hannah was still feeling anxious, she relayed the information she obtained from the spy to Keltz without missing anything. 

Upon hearing the information…

Keltz was trembling, furious beyond belief. He pounded the table with all of his might in a fit of anger, making a wine glass placed on the table to fall and shattered. 

“They…. They are underestimating me… They’ve really dug their own grave!!”

With his fist clenched tightly, Keltz continued hitting the table several times. 

Trying to distract himself from the brewing anger, Keltz turned his attention to Hannah.

“Call Albert. Right now. It seems we’re going to be very busy from now on.”
