Chapter 34: Selene Becoming Aware of the Reality

The two people who hated me had a face full of hostility aimed at me. 

Harry was the first one to speak up. 

“Selene-sama, just what is going on here?”

“Hm? I’m just having a normal conversation with Kanato-san though?”

Harry questioned his fiancée while pretending to remain calm. On the other hand, Selene-sama only answered nonchalantly as if nothing was amiss.

“Don’t you think it’s strange that a commoner is walking together with Selene-sama, who’s a royalty?”

“Hmm… Why is it strange?”

“Selene-sama, my beloved, his existence alone will sully you. I can’t bear to see you like this…”

With a sad expression on his face, Harry reached his hand out to Selene and Bern, his follower, whispered to me discreetly.

“Commoner, get the hint already. You’re not supposed to be here.”

Bern said before he returned to Harry’s side. The two of them were clearly looking down on me. 

“Heh. Commoner, I have something to discuss with Selene-sama. That’s why, could you do me a favor and make yourself scram?”

Harry wasn’t yelling at me. It was clear to see that he was desperately holding his anger back because we were in front of his fiancée.

I was just a commoner. Moreover, that Harry was engaged to Selene-sama. If the person beside me was my little sister, I would talk back to Harry. I was at a disadvantage this time.

“……..”

I remained silent, looking down for a few seconds. 

Bern chuckled while the corner of Harry’s lips curled up into a smirk. 

He leaned in and whispered softly. 

“Go away.”

I moved my feet, ready to leave them when suddenly, I could feel a soft sensation on my hand amidst the mockery from the people around us. 

“Huh? Why are you leaving?”

“Hm?”

“We were in the middle of a very important discussion though? Why are you leaving?”

“No-No, it’s because… Harry-sama is Selene-sama’s fiancé so…”

“It doesn’t matter. I want to have a conversation with Kanato-san. Fufu~”

Although Selene-sama might appear composed on the outside, but she was actually gripping my hand with enough force to crush my hand. 

Seeing our interconnected hands, Harry pressed his forehead with his hand. 

“Please stop. Everyone is watching. This kind of behavior is unbecoming for a member of the royal family.”

Seeing Harry was on the verge of losing his temper, Bern immediately launched a passionate speech.

“Your Highness, it is truly saddening to see such a beautiful and noble person as yourself associating with that lowly commoner. Your Highness, you have a wonderful fiancé by your side. You can have that important conversation with Harry-sama instead. It doesn’t have to be with that lowly commoner.”

Bern finished his speech with heavy breathing, alternating his gaze between Selene-sama and Harry. 

“Bern, you’ve gone too far.”

Harry reprimanded Bern gently. However, from Harry’s expression alone I could tell that he wasn’t actually displeased by Bern’s grandiose speech. 

Selene-sama gazed at Harry intently before opening her mouth to speak.

“Even though we haven’t made it public in order to keep the honor of the noble, but Harry-san, you’re well aware of Kanato-san’s great endeavor, right?”

“…..”

“Even if he’s just a commoner, I believe it’s highly inappropriate to display this kind of attitude toward someone who saved my Onee-sama’s life.”

Upon hearing Selene-sama defending me, Harry once again glared at me. His eyes were seething with hostility. 

The same gaze that he showed me at the party back then. This was the gaze of jealousy because someone else took his spotlight.

Or… Perhaps he’s angry because his plan was foiled by me?

I decided to probe even further.

“Harry-sama.”

“….What?”

“I heard that you are a Level 5 and yet… When Alan attacked Rhea-sama, you didn’t even move a muscle.”

“… What are you trying to say?”

“Nothing. I’m just curious. This is just my personal opinion but from my perspective, it seemed like you were just standing by, watching from the sideline.”

“I will ask you again. What are you trying to say?”

“And like I said before, I’m just curious… Do you happen to know anyone from Genesis?”

The moment I finished voicing my question, Bern suddenly went into a fit of rage. He shouted loudly. 

“You filthy scum!! What kind of nonsense are you trying to say?! How dare you insult Harry-sama!!”

By the time I noticed it, Bern had cast an earth magic spell, creating a giant knuckle from the ground and aimed the fist to my face. 

“ARGHHHHH!! You need to be punished for insulting both the nobility and royalty!! As a nobleman myself, I shall deliver the rightful judgment upon your commoner self!!”

Bern was trying to attack me even though Selene-sama was still beside me. The surrounding nobles stopped on their track, watching our quarrel. 

We have too many onlookers around. I need to end this quickly. 

I caught his earth knuckle with my bare hand.

“Wha-What?!”

“Even after I beat you to pulp last time, you still haven’t learned much, huh?”

“Wha-?!”

“You can’t defeat me. Do you know why? Because you’re weak.”

I kicked Bern’s knee with my foot. 

“Ah-!”

Losing his balance, Bern was falling onto the ground when I swiftly slid underneath him. 

“Shotgun…”

I whispered and a shotgun appeared in front of us. I aimed the barrel of the shotgun at his waist and pulled the trigger to hit him with the magic infused bullet. 

BANG!!!

“Uffph-!”

Along with a mysterious sound from his mouth, Bern flew about 200 meters into the air. 

As per the law of gravity, Bern eventually fell down. He plummeted to the ground at high speed, accelerated by the gravity pushing him down. 

“BERN!!”

Harry shouted as he took his wand out. He cast a spell on the falling Bern, slowing down his follower’s fall until Bern touched the ground with a soft thud. 

Harry went over to check on Bern. Seeing that Bern had lost consciousness, Harry clenched his fist from rage. 

“You commoner… How dare you do this to Bern…”

Harry was trembling from sheer rage.

“He was the one that started it though.”

I calmly replied and then, I saw three familiar looking people approaching me. All three of them had their wands pointing at me. Among them, one particular muscular man shouted first. 

“You… How dare you harm my party members… You filthy commoner!! Just how much more do you have to humiliate us, noble, before you’re satisfied?!”

It was Geese. He was the guy that almost got eaten alive by a Red Dragon the other day. Fortunately, he was good at magic. He barely survived by enveloping his body with steel. 

Even though Rina had saved him when he was suffering from magic exhaustion syndrome, he was now glaring at me as if he was itching to kill me. 

“Lo-Look… It’s Geese-sama.”

“All members of the Eternal Force are here.”

All members of the Eternal Force? That means… Those three people from the Red Dragon incident are in the same party as Harry and Bern? 

Surprised, I alternated my gaze between the three familiar faces and Harry when all of a sudden, all five of them assumed an attacking stance. 

Seeing this scene unfolding before her eyes, Selene-sama sighed deeply. She had a resigned look on her face, as if she had been betrayed by something. She looked like she was finally becoming aware of an unpleasant reality in her life.

Disheartened, Selene-sama inched closer to me, so much so that our arms almost brushed against each other.
