Chapter 11: A New Plan – Rewrite History!
(I need to figure out how to live in this second round. Maybe find somewhere peaceful to settle down.)
This thought crossed my mind after becoming Ouma Shiranui’s hunting dog.
Once I left the underground chamber, I decided to head to the restroom.
Inside, a young boy, in the middle of his business, froze and flinched when he saw me.
Inside, a boy who was, uh, in the middle of things, froze in shock when he saw me.
“W-Why is a girl here—wait, Kanata Soranaki!? Hiieee!?”
“You don’t have to call me by my full name every time.”
“E-Er, then… Kanata?”
“That’ll do. Also, put on your pants.”
“Whaaa!?”
Ignoring the flustered boy, I stepped into a stall.
Closing the door, I brought my hands to my chest, forming the symbol of a sword, and shut my eyes.
“Spiritual Domain, enter.”
I decided to enter my Spiritual Domain, the inner world of my soul.
Partly to calmly think about how I’ll live this second life—and partly to give those Conceptual Spirits, who created this ridiculous body, a proper scolding!
◆ ◇ ◆
“…Those little punks, how dare they mess up my body like this…!?”
Upon entering my Spiritual Domain, I regained the ability to speak freely.
My appearance here was a floating, squishy soul-like form—soft and harmless—but honestly, it was way better than that overpowered, villainous body outside.
“Heyyy! Conceptual Spirits Trio, get out here NOW!”
I yelled into the endless white space, and soon enough—
“Ah, it’s Kanataaa!”
“…!”
“Can I strangle you!?”
The trio floated down from above, swaying as they descended.
First, there was [Doll], a little girl in a white Gothic Lolita outfit. She seemed to have gotten a bit better at speaking since last time.
Yeah, she’s fine. No complaints about her. But as for the other two…
“Who the heck are you two!?”
Standing before me were two girls I didn’t recognize.
One was a black-haired girl in a fluttery mini cheongsam. Her face was obscured by a veil, and instead of arms, large-caliber cannon barrels peeked out from her sleeves.
“…You’re not seriously [Blank Shot], are you?”
“…!”
The girl nodded rapidly, confirming it.
You’ve got to be kidding me. You used to look like some ridiculous fish with a cannon for a face! Where’d you pick up that flat-chested humanoid body?
“And you over there… are you supposed to be [Ittan-momen]?”
“Can I strangle you already!?”
The third one… oh boy.
A blonde, ahem, generously endowed woman wrapped haphazardly in bandages, barely covering anything. She was all smiles, which only made her a hundred times scarier.
Seriously, what happened to you?
You used to be just a simple floating strip of cloth—plain and flat. Now you’ve gone full 3D! Where did you even get that meaty body?!
“Don’t tell me… you guys evolved?”
““”Evolved~!”””
Above their heads, glowing halos like rings of light appeared.
“Wha—Spiritual Halos!? That’s the mark of a higher-class spirit… you guys evolved that much?”
Evolution—a rare phenomenon among Conceptual Spirits where their souls undergo sublimation.
It happens when they absorb a large amount of spiritual energy, enhancing their spiritual power.
Not only does it boost their raw strength, but it can also grant them new abilities related to their concept—like a [Grass] Conceptual Spirit gaining the ability to produce medicinal or toxic liquids.
“We ate Kanata’s spiritual energy and grew stronger~!”
[Doll] explained, sounding like a hostess from a shady bar in the Philippines.
Ah, I see now. So the reason they’ve been so quiet since my birth was that they needed to enter a cocoon-like state to evolve.
“Hmm… so [Doll] didn’t change much since her concept includes ‘immutability.’ But the other two have taken on human forms. You guys really leveled up from lower-class spirits all at once.”
As spirits evolve, they either grow larger or take on human-like forms.
The latter phenomenon likely stems from the concept of [Humanity] being described in religious texts as “created in the image of God.” This indirectly means that the closer a being gets to “perfection” (or divinity), the more human-like it becomes.
“I’m surprised [Blank Shot] and [Ittan-momen] turned out to be female. Well, Conceptual Spirits don’t have definitive genders, but you both seemed more… masculine.”
“”While we were in our cocoons, [Doll] kept messing with us…””
“Ah.”
For the first time, the two spoke clearly—and their expressions looked utterly lifeless.
Oh no, so they’re victims of [Doll]’s overzealous “character designing” too…
“But before that! Hey, you three! My real body keeps spouting all these arrogant things. That’s your doing, isn’t it?!”
“““We wanted Master to live with confidence, so we adjusted your brain and nerves.”””
“That’s an absolutely terrifying thought process!”
The… brain and nerves, seriously? Is that why everything I say gets warped into something ridiculous?
Ugh, come to think of it, before I was born, I faintly remember them asking me something about my nerves. I probably gave them permission without paying attention! Damn it!
“Okay, I get it now. It’s my fault for giving a half-hearted answer back then. And yeah, I guess I do have a bit of a self-deprecating streak… If you did it because you were thinking of me, I can’t get too mad about it.”
Taking all of that into consideration—
“Sooo… while the three of you came up with the personality adjustments, the one who actually messed with my nerves was you, [Doll], right?”
“Yes, I’m the factory manager.”
What the heck is a factory manager?
“Uh, excuse me, I know it’s a little late since I’ve already been ‘shipped’ out of the womb, but… is there any way to reset my nerves back to normal?”
“WRONG ORDER!!!”
“!?”
“We do not accept responsibility for post-order corrections. Thank you for your understanding. Goodbye.”
And just like that, [Doll] floated away, lazily drifting off to who-knows-where.
Wait a second—
“Hey, hold on! First off, it’s your fault for proposing nerve modifications to me when I was barely conscious!”
Not to mention, you were the one who came up with the whole idea in the first place! Take some responsibility!
“Hey, factory manager!”
“It’s quitting time. I’m leaving.”
“What kind of garbage white-collar company is this?!”
And with that, [Doll] actually disappeared, floating off for real this time. Damn it.
“Sigh, she’s way too free-spirited… Well, I guess it’s true that modifying my brain and nerves after birth would’ve been risky…”
A second death? No thanks.
Looks like I’ll just have to make peace with this body. At least the specs are good enough that I probably won’t die anytime soon.
“Alright, that’s enough about this. Hey, [Blank Shot], [Ittan-momen], let’s think about how I should handle my second life.”
“”???””
The cheongsam-wearing beauty and the scantily-clad blonde tilted their heads in confusion, halos leaning with them.
Looks like their intelligence hasn’t evolved much…
“Alright, I’ll just talk and you can listen. First off, let’s discuss the Conceptual Spirit of [Regression], which will appear 23 years from now. It’s an unprecedented existence capable of distorting even space-time itself… and it’s something that can’t be made public.”
Spirits are born when a large number of people—or even a single strong-willed individual—focus intensely on a specific concept.
If too much attention is given to [Regression], its appearance could happen even sooner than expected—possibly even earlier than 23 years from now.
And honestly, just me and you three spirits thinking about it might already be speeding things up.
“In any case, I can’t openly talk about [Regression]. But that doesn’t mean I can ignore it. So I’ve decided to focus on preparing myself and, if possible, nurturing the people around me.”
So, here’s the plan.
“There are talented individuals who are fated to die prematurely. I’m going to save them.”
“”!””
The two spirits showed visible surprise. With their slightly improved intelligence, it seemed like they’d caught on.
“That’s right. I plan to rewrite history.”
There are so many capable, brilliant people who lose their lives in battles against Conceptual Spirits. This tragedy keeps repeating itself.
For instance, the Conceptual Spirit of [Erasure] is set to appear soon.
Its emergence will lead to a bloody battle, claiming the lives of many Reisoushis. But if I intervene…
“I can ensure those valuable individuals survive, and they’ll be ready for the eventual fight against [Regression]. That’s my strategy.”
So I’ve decided—I’ll help as many of those people as I can.
“Also, there are Reisoushis who may not die outright but will end up severely weakened. I plan to help them too.”
And at the top of that list is… Ouma Shiranui.
In the future, he’s going to face Libertalia’s Spirit Knight Army alone—one man against 100,000 knights. He’ll win, but the cost will be devastating.
He’ll lose all four limbs, be cursed by countless spirits, have every organ poisoned, and suffer complete sensory loss, with his brain function burned out as well.
…And yet, he’ll keep living, driven solely by his determination to protect “Japan.”
That’s insane.
Winning against an army of 100,000 by himself is already monstrous enough. He’s nothing like me, a fake monster with the personality of a mob. He’s the real deal.
“The strongest Reisoushi—Ouma Shiranui. If I can ensure he survives in peak condition for the future, he’ll be an incredible ally.”
Our current relationship is terrible, though. He called me ‘the most evil being he’s ever encountered.’
But as long as I don’t harm Japan, he probably won’t kill me.
“I’ll work to save as many Reisoushis as I can before history takes them off the board. That’s my plan moving forward. You guys, will you help me out?”
“”Yes!””
Good response. Alright then—
“Let’s head back. Time to revisit my home after all this time.”

[Tips]
Evolution:
A rare phenomenon among Conceptual Spirits. By absorbing significant amounts of spiritual energy, they transform into entities capable of wielding their concept with greater freedom and power.
Cocoon:
The state of Conceptual Spirits undergoing evolution.
If a hostile Conceptual Spirit enters this phase, it is considered the perfect opportunity to attack and eliminate them.
In [Doll]’s case, her physical changes were minimal, so her evolution was completed quickly. In the meantime, she meddled with the cocoons of the other two spirits and also (without permission) designed Kanata Soranaki’s decadent gothic dress.
Spiritual Halos:
Floating rings of light above higher-class spirits.
These halos resemble magic circles, with unique patterns and colors depending on the spirit. They are mesmerizingly beautiful and transparent.
Researchers spent years trying to determine their purpose, only to discover recently that they serve no real function.
They’re just cute.
