The Lovers Flirted Playfully In Front Of Their Classmates.
“What exactly do you want me to help with?”
We were at a family restaurant inside the shopping mall near the station.
Taking advantage of the moment when Shiina left his seat, I started talking to the class rep.
“Actually, I’m planning to confess to Shiina-kun today. That’s why I want you and Ichigaya-san to help set the stage for me.”
The class rep, with a serious expression, revealed her plan.
I had suspected for a while that there was something between her and Shiina. I’d often seen her discussing what seemed like relationship issues with Hatsune-san.
It looked like she was finally ready to take action.
“If that’s the case, I’ll help.”
“Thank you so much…!”
“You and Shiina-kun really helped me during the sports festival, so I’ll gladly do whatever I can. But…”
“But what?”
The class rep gave me a questioning look.
“I always thought you two already had mutual feelings, so I’m not sure you need to stage anything.”
“W-what…!?”
The class rep, usually composed, seemed flustered for once.
“I agree with Yakumo-kun. You’re childhood friends, after all,” Hatsune-san chimed in, backing me up.
However, the class rep shook her head.
“It’s because we’re childhood friends. We’ve been together for so long that I don’t think he even sees me as a girl.”
She spoke passionately, as if frustrated.
“I see… so being together for years can have that effect?” I asked, pondering the situation.
“I still think Shiina-kun likes the class rep. He just hasn’t realized it yet. I’ve told her this countless times,” Hatsune-san countered, challenging the class rep’s perspective.
“I feel the same way,” I added.
“Do you really think so, Ueno-kun? After hearing it from Ichigaya-san over and over, I finally decided to make my move.”
So Hatsune-san’s encouragement had pushed the class rep to confess.
“That’s where you and I come in, Yakumo-kun, to help set everything up.”
“I’ve been wondering… what exactly do you mean by ‘setting the stage’?”
I asked, curious about the details of the plan Hatsune-san and the class rep had in mind.
“You two will need to act like a couple and flirt in front of Shiina-kun.”
That was the unexpected answer from the class rep.
“…What?”
I couldn’t help but raise my eyebrows.

Shiina returned to the table, balancing four drinks for everyone. A short while later:
“Yakumo-kun, want to try this?” Hatsune-san asked, opening the menu and pointing to something.
It was a “Couple’s Exclusive Parfait,” complete with a large, enticing photo.
“A couple’s parfait, huh… It could be nice to try something like this for a change,” I said.
“But… would it be rude if just the two of us ordered it?” Hatsune-san added, glancing apologetically toward the class rep and Shiina.
Her approach was a bit obvious, but maybe that’s what made it effective.
“Y-yes, you’re right. We wouldn’t want to make you feel left out… Shiina-kun, how about we order the same thing?” The class rep awkwardly nodded and suggested to Shiina.
“Uh, but… we’re not exactly a couple, are we?”
“If we just act like a couple, no one will notice,” the class rep replied, her voice shaky.
“Alright, let’s go for it,” Shiina said with a soft smile, trying to reassure her.
That smile… it was clear why girls liked him. It was that effortlessly charming, genuine grin that made him so popular.

In the end, we ordered two of the Couple’s Exclusive Parfaits. Each one was roughly the size of two servings, designed for couples to share. Honestly, aside from the size, it didn’t seem all that different from a regular parfait.
“Alright, let’s get started. Yakumo-kun, ahh,” Hatsune-san said, scooping up some ice cream with a spoon and presenting it to me as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
So this is what it means to flirt like a couple. I felt a bit self-conscious with all the eyes on us, but this was for the class rep’s confession, after all.
“…I’ll dig in,” I murmured, opening my mouth to accept the offered ice cream.
“How is it? Tasty?”
“Well, yeah,” I replied, honestly thinking the taste was about what you’d expect from a diner dessert—nothing spectacular but not bad either.
“Fufuu~, I’m glad. Now have some more,” she encouraged.
Despite the fact that we were essentially putting on a show for our classmates sitting across from us, I didn’t mind this situation at all. Seeing Hatsune-san looking so cheerful, as if she were feeding me, made me want to respond to her joy more than worry about what others thought.
Wait a minute.
Are we just forgetting about the whole “setting the stage” part and being genuine instead?
“Wow… As expected from Ichigaya-san and Ueno-kun…” The class rep watched us with wide eyes.
“Haha, you two are so close,” Shiina commented.
“Y-Yeah! We should do that too!” the class rep said enthusiastically.
“Do that… you mean the ‘ahh’ thing?” Shiina asked, looking at the class rep, who was holding a spoon.
“Yes! Since we ordered the Couple’s Exclusive Parfait, it must be the right way to eat it…!” the class rep insisted.
“Is that really how it is? Well, if you want to do it, Asuha, I guess it’s fine,” Shiina agreed after a moment of hesitation.
Even in this casual exchange, he called her by her first name while everyone else referred to her as class rep.
(There’s definitely something more than just friendship going on here, isn’t there?)
As I watched my classmates interact, I took a piece of fruit from the spoon that Hatsune-san offered me.
