ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
After waiting until Reona and Riona were satisfied watching the doctor fish, the three of us began touring the facility again. When Riona saw the garden eels, she took photos with the same happy expression she had when she saw the giant salamander earlier. She might really like “gross but cute” creatures.
“It looks like you can get a garden eel parfait at the café. You and Onee-chan should eat it with me later too.”
“Wow, there’s a parfait like that? I might want to try it too.”
“Just hearing ‘garden eel parfait’ is already enough to make me feel full.”
Even after that conversation, we continued looking around the aquarium, and just about when we were finishing a full round, we suddenly heard the voices of multiple men and women arguing from somewhere.
“Hey, Ryouya. Who’s the girl next to you?”
“That’s my line. I’m Ryou-kun’s girlfriend, so what?”
“What are you talking about? I’m his girlfriend.”
“J-just calm down, both of you.”
“How could anyone stay calm in a situation like this?”
“I agree. I’d like Ryou-kun to explain what’s going on, from his own mouth.”
Looking toward the direction of the voices, we saw a flashy, gyaru-style girl and a serious-looking career woman with glasses arguing. The two of them were sandwiching a single man between them. Based on my guess, that guy was probably two-timing them. As proof, his face had gone completely pale.
His name was also Ryouya, just like me, but he was a tall, good-looking guy who gave off a totally popular vibe. In other words, he was the type of normie I hated—a detestable enemy. And on top of that, he was a cheating scumbag, someone unworthy of sharing the name Ryouya with me.
Realizing they were drawing a lot of attention, the three of them continued arguing while heading toward the exit. They were probably moving their battlefield to a café or somewhere else and continuing their showdown.
“Man, we stumbled into something crazy.”
“’Ryouya-kun’ was definitely cheating, wasn’t he?”
“Yeah, it was totally ‘Ryouya”s fault.”
“…Even though I know you two aren’t talking about me, it’s still making me feel complicated somehow.”
Hearing Reona and Riona badmouth “Ryouya” dealt me a subtle blow. Of all the names he could’ve had, why did that cheating bastard have to be named Ryouya?
“Don’t worry. Riona and I both know our Ryouya-kun would never cheat.”
“Our Ryouya would never even be capable of cheating.”
“I’m the type who would stay devoted to the person I fall for, anyway.”
Well, to begin with, the possibility of me ever getting a girlfriend in my lifetime was practically zero and even if by some miracle I did, that meant I had achieved a luck luckier than winning first prize in the lottery, so I definitely wouldn’t even think about a “next” one.
“By the way, Riona and I are super strict about cheating, so just a heads-up.”
“If we got cheated on, who knows what we’d do.”
At the very moment they said that, their eyes turned pitch black, reflecting nothing. I already knew that Reona and Riona had ridiculously strong possessiveness. Any guy who cheated on them after dating them wouldn’t get away unscathed for sure.
“So you two are fine with a boyfriend two-timing you with each other, but not with anyone else, huh?”
“I think we’ve said this before, but Riona and I are basically one and the same.”
“If Onee-chan and I weren’t identical twins, the outcome would probably be different.”
It seemed that being identical twins was an extremely important factor for Reona and Riona. I had no idea what kind of guy would end up dating them in the future, but if he didn’t want to experience hell, he’d better be very careful about that.
“Anyway, like we promised earlier, let’s go get that garden eel parfait!”
“Oh yeah, we did say that.”
“I wanna eat it now.”
Pulled along by Reona and Riona with so much force it felt like they were dragging me, we headed toward the café. Guided by the staff, we sat at a table and ordered the garden eel parfait.
“So it turns out it’s just a regular mango parfait with a Pocky stick designed to look like a garden eel stuck in it, huh.”
“Ah, did you think you were going to be eating actual garden eel, Ryouya-kun?”
“No, no. I’m not dumb enough to think we’d be getting actual garden eel. I mean, can you even eat garden eels in the first place?”
As I raised the question, Riona immediately answered.
“Garden eels are a subspecies of the common conger eel we usually eat, but they’re not considered edible, so normally you don’t eat them.”
“Yeah, I figured as much.”
“The eel we eat in sushi and stuff is called maanago eel.”
As expected, Riona really knew her stuff. No matter what I asked, she always had an answer, and it made me wonder if there was anything she didn’t know. Thinking that, I decided to ask her.
“I’ve been wondering… But is there anything you don’t know, Riona?”
“I don’t know everything. I can only answer things I already know. Like, I often get asked for love advice, but since I’ve never actually dated anyone, I don’t really know how to answer their questions properly.”
“Same here. Friends always ask me for advice, but I never know what to say.”
“So even Riona doesn’t know everything, huh.”
Apparently even “Riopedia” had its gaps. But still, for a second-year high schooler like me and Reona, knowing this much was already seriously impressive. While thinking about that, our long-awaited garden eel parfaits finally arrived.
“Whoa~ It totally looks like a garden eel when I see it in person like this.”
“Yeah, they really pulled the garden eel aesthetic really well.”
“Looks delicious.”
As usual, Reona started taking pictures for social media, while Riona, eyes sparkling, eagerly dug into her garden eel parfait. Today too, the two of them were acting just like always.
