Chapter 68: We’re Just Asking to Keep Any Bad Influences Away From You, Ryouya-kun

When my SSR character was confiscated for an unreasonable reason and I was feeling down, Reona and Riona sat down on either side of me, sandwiching me between them.

“…Hey, I think there are plenty of other open seats, you know.”

“No matter how you look at it, nowhere else is even an option.”

“Yeah. Sitting next to you is our designated seat. Besides, we’re going to be in the same group anyway, so it’s more efficient if we sit together from now on.”

Reona and Riona pressed their bodies against mine in an obviously intentional way, and I tried to find some way to separate the two of them, but it didn’t seem possible. Since both sides were blocked off, I couldn’t escape. I wanted to punch myself for thoughtlessly choosing the middle seat of a bench meant for three.

My classmates wore the usual exasperated expressions like they were thinking, “Here we go again,” but the other students from different classes looked visibly surprised.

Well, if someone as plain as me was surrounded by beautiful girls, I guess that was the expected reaction. Especially Reona and Riona’s friends, who probably didn’t know anything about me. They were giving me harsh looks, which made me feel extremely out of place.

While all that was going on, homeroom started, and the itinerary for the school trip was handed out, followed by an explanation. Just as we’d been told beforehand, the three-day, two-night trip would have group activities on the first and third days, with a full day of free time on the second day.

“That’s enough for the explanation. Now, form groups of three to five people for the second day. Once you’ve decided on your group, report your group to me.” 

The teacher said while using the projector to explain the trip at the front of the classroom. It was a phrase that could bring tears to the eyes of loners everywhere, but this time, thanks to Reona and Riona being with me, it looked like I could avoid a tragedy.

“We’ll go report to the teacher as a group of three: me, Riona, and Ryouya-kun.”

“Just to be sure, are you two really okay with that?”

“…Don’t tell me….  Ryouya, you don’t want to be in the same group as us?”

“…If you have a reason, I’d like to hear it spelled out.”

As I watched Reona quickly get up to go report to the teacher, I asked just to confirm. The two of them responded by looking at me with cold eyes. At first glance, their expressions didn’t seem that different from usual, but the aura they gave off was totally unlike their normal selves.

I felt such intense pressure, it was like I was face to face with a wild beast. Unable to withstand the pressure, I hurriedly tried to explain myself.

“N-No, I just thought maybe there’d be other people who wanted to be in a group with you two…”

“You don’t have to worry about that. We already told everyone we’re forming a group with you, Ryouya-kun.”

“Yeah. While you were off having fun ignoring me and Onee-chan, we already explained everything.”

Ah, that makes sense.

That explains why ever since before homeroom started, Reona and Riona’s friends had been glaring at me with such intense hatred, and why no one tried to invite either of them when group forming began. They probably couldn’t stand the idea of some random guy like me sitting next to Reona and Riona, while they, as their friends, got left behind. In a way, that might be even more painful than going on the school trip alone.

“Well, now that Ryouya-kun has agreed, I’ll go ahead and report to the teacher for real this time.”

“I’ll leave it to you, Onee-chan.”

Since Reona and Riona had gone so far as to coordinate things with their friends, I had no reason to say no and simply saw her off quietly. After all the groups were finalized, we moved on to discussing where we’d go during the free activity day.

“Since we’re going to Kyoto, I’d like to go around to some temples and shrines.”

“We’re already visiting Kiyomizu Temple and Fushimi Inari during the group activities, and you still want more?”

“Yeah. Since we’re already going to Kyoto, I want to receive blessings from as many places as I can.”

Just like when we went to Kisarazu, Reona and Riona turned out to have a surprisingly spiritual side. They seemed weak to things like divine favor and power spots.

“In that case, I want to go to Yasui Konpiragū.”

“Ah, I’ve been thinking I wanted to go there too.”

“By the way, what kind of place is Yasui Konpiragū?”

“It’s said to be the strongest en-kiri (ending bad relationship) shrine in Kyoto.”

Riona explained. I had assumed it would be a place for forming bonds, so hearing that it was actually for cutting ties caught me completely off guard.

“Wait, do you two have someone you want to cut ties with or something?”

“No, not us. We’re going to ask the gods to cut your ties, Ryouya-kun.”

“What?! I’m already a loner, and you want to cut more of my ties? That sounds like a recipe for disaster.”

“We’re just going to sever your bad ties, so don’t worry.”

“Yeah. We’re just asking the shrine to keep any bad influences away from you, Ryouya-kun.”

The two of them already seemed fully set on going, so there was no way I could say no. 

Well… If it’s just to cut off bad ties, maybe it’s not so bad.
