ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
Reona and Riona’s “say ahh” attacks continued for a while even after that, and just as I was starting to wish they’d let me go, I decided to suggest going to a stall that didn’t involve food.
“Hey, we’re starting to get tired of just eating, right? How about we try that shooting gallery over there?”
“Oh, that sounds fun.”
“I want to try it.”
“Alright, let’s do it.”
Since both of them seemed interested in the shooting gallery, we headed toward the stall. There weren’t many people around, so it looked like we could play right away. Not even a few minutes had passed after we arrived before it was our turn, so we listened to the rules first.
It was a system where the prizes you could get depended on the total points you scored by knocking down targets, but the higher the points, the smaller the targets, making them harder to hit.
“Ah, I know. Since we’re already here, why don’t we make it a competition?”
“In that case, I want the prize to be that the winner gets to give one command to the other two. Any command is allowed.”
“Huh? That’s a bit…”
Not knowing what kind of outrageous request they might make, I didn’t like that idea. If I won, I could avoid it, but if either Reona or Riona won, I’d have to follow their orders—no matter what. It felt like a losing proposition from the start.
“Of course, if Ryouya-kun wins, we’ll obey any command you give.”
“We will listen to you without complaining, even if it’s something perverted.”
Hearing that, I started to waver. Sadly, I was still a teenage boy at the age where you couldn’t help but get your hopes up if I was promised erotic things.
“Alright then. Sounds like Ryouya-kun is on board, so let’s get started already.”
“Hey! I never said I agreed!”
“If you didn’t agree, you would’ve said so just now. But you didn’t, which means you did agree.”
“…Are you serious?”
I was seriously pathetic, being roped into this just because I got tempted by something lewd. Well, even if I hadn’t been lured in, the outcome probably wouldn’t have changed anyway. It looked like the only way I could save myself now was by winning against both of them. After our rather one-sided discussion, we paid the fee, picked up our cork guns, and started the shooting gallery game as a trio.
“Man, the corks really don’t fly the way you want them to…”
I was trying to play it safe and go for the easier targets to steadily build up points, but since the corks wouldn’t fly straight, I was struggling more than expected. Reona was having just as hard a time as I was. Her shots weren’t going the way she wanted, either. In contrast, Riona had picked up her corks and held her gun, but she hadn’t fired a single shot yet. I was wondering what her game was when she finally fired her first shot.
“Whoa?! Out of all things, you knock that one down?”
“Riona, that’s amazing!”
Riona’s cork flew straight and cleanly knocked down the smallest target. It was probably a fluke, but if she kept going like that, I was going to lose, so I hoped she didn’t get lucky again.
But Riona’s second and third corks also flew straight and knocked down high-point targets. Needless to say, I completely lost my will to fight the moment I realized there was no longer any chance of winning for me.
She kept hitting every single shot perfectly after that, and in the end, Riona won by a landslide, leaving me and Reona far behind. Afterward, we received our prizes from the staff and left the shooting gallery stall to sit on a bench.
“…So, what was up with that just now? Most of your corks flew perfectly straight.”
“There’s no way you were plain lucky, right?”
“The trick behind getting the corks to fly straight is this.”
When Reona and I asked her, Riona took something out of her drawstring pouch. It was a bottle of hand cream—the kind girls often use.
“The reason corks don’t fly straight is because of the uneven surface. So I used hand cream to smooth it out.”
“Wow, I didn’t know there was a trick like that.”
“You’ve gotta be kidding me…”
Riona had actually used a method I wouldn’t have even thought of. No wonder she hadn’t started shooting right away. Then she began explaining the rest of her tricks.
“Also, I loaded the corks after pulling the gun’s lever. That way it builds more pressure and the cork flies farther.”
“Riona, you really are amazing.”
“Looks like we lost before the battle even started.”
“The one who controls the information controls the outcome.”
I was painfully reminded just how important information could be in a competition. With Reona it might still be a fair fight, but when it came to Riona, I didn’t feel like I could win against her no matter what kind of match it was.
“So, that means since I came in first, the right to give one command to the others is mine. I can’t think of anything now, so I’ll decide later.”
“Go easy on us, okay?”
“I’m begging you, please make it an easy one.”
“I’ll think about.”
I think Reona had used that same phrase before…
Besides, isn’t that what people say when they never had any intention of going easy in the first place?
