ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
While I was worrying about the future, our turn finally came as we waited in line. After the safety bar came down, an announcement signaled the ride’s start, and the ship began to sway gently. At first, the swaying wasn’t very intense and didn’t feel scary, but it gradually became more violent.
“It’s pretty intense, huh…?”
“That’s what makes it fun.”
In contrast to Riona, who looked slightly tense, Reona wore an expression of clear enjoyment. Just as I imagined, Reona seemed to enjoy thrill rides, while Riona apparently didn’t.
“That was fun! Let’s go ride the teacups next!”
“Yeah, no. Riding two thrill rides in a row would be a bit much.”
“I’m on board with that.”
After getting off the viking ride, we decided on the teacups for our next attraction. There were fewer people there compared to the Viking, so we got on almost immediately.
“I seriously haven’t ridden the teacups in forever.”
“Even if you go to a theme park, you don’t always ride the teacups.”
“It’s been a while for both me and Onee-chan too.”
“Let’s go back to basics and have a blast today.”
Soon, the teacup ride began to move slowly, and Reona immediately started spinning the center handle with gusto. She was clearly into it.
“Hey, Ryouya-kun, Riona, want to spin it with me?”
“Sure.”
“Just sitting here feels like a waste, so I’ll give it a spin too.”
Riona and I began turning the handle in the center of the cup. As it spun, the scenery around us shifted rapidly, and it turned out to be more fun than I expected. We thoroughly enjoyed the teacup ride, but just as we got off, a new problem arose.
“…Ugh, I feel sick.”
“Onee-chan, are you okay?”
It seemed that Reona had gotten dizzy from all the spinning and looked visibly unwell. Since neither Riona nor I felt sick, it was likely that Reona just had a weak stomach.
“Carbonated drinks help with motion sickness. I’ll go buy something from the vending machine nearby. Onee-chan, wait with Ryouya on the bench, okay?”
“Got it. I’ll wait here with Reona.”
“…Thanks.”
Riona went off to look for a vending machine. In the meantime, I helped Reona lie down on a bench. She looked pale and weak.
“Getting sick this early on is rough, huh?”
“…I guess I kind of overdid it.”
“The day’s still long, so don’t push yourself too hard.”
As I encouraged her, Reona reached out and took my hand. Normally, I’d probably be too embarrassed to do something like that and let go quickly, but I figured I’d let it slide just this once.
“Sorry to keep you waiting. I got these!”
“…Thanks, Riona.”
“Drink that and get your energy back.”
Reona took the bottle of cola from Riona and started drinking it in big gulps. We stayed seated on the bench for a while, and little by little, Reona began to regain her strength.
“I’m feeling a lot better now.”
“That’s good to hear.”
“Yeah. Things just don’t feel right when Reona’s not at full energy.”
“If Ryouya-kun fed it to me mouth-to-mouth, I think I’d get even better.”
“If you’ve got enough energy to say weird stuff like that, I think you’re fine already.”
I let out a slightly exasperated sigh as I said that. Afterward, we enjoyed the go-karts, the log flume, and the merry-go-round. Now, we were lining up for the haunted house.
“Whoa, the atmosphere is on point.”
“Right? I think they really put effort into the exterior.”
This haunted house had the theme of a cursed mansion in Northern Europe, and the design looked genuinely eerie. Judging by the screams of female guests coming from inside, it seemed the haunted house was pretty scary.
I used the word “seemed” because it had been so long since I last went through this haunted house that I didn’t remember anything. I vaguely recalled crying my eyes out back then, though.
“By the way, Riona’s been silent for a while now. Is she okay?”
“Ryouya-kun, the truth is, Riona has been scared of ghosts ever since she was little.”
When I expressed concern about Riona, who hadn’t said a word since we decided to come here, Reona whispered that into my ear. I had honestly assumed Riona was the type who wasn’t scared of ghosts at all, so it really caught me off guard.
“If you’re scared, you don’t have to push yourself. Reona and I can go in without you.”
“I-I’m fine.”
“You really don’t look fine, though.”
“G-Ghosts are unscientific, so they don’t exist. That’s why I’m not scared.”
She blurted that out in a rush when I tried to check on her. Yeah… that was absolutely the kind of person who shouldn’t be going into a haunted house. While we waited in line, I asked several more times if she was sure about going in, but every time, she insisted she was fine.

Chapter 36: Don’t Overthink It
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
After waiting for a while, it was finally our turn, so the three of us slowly entered the haunted house. Inside, it was dimly lit and filled with an eerie atmosphere. From all around us, we could hear what sounded like people groaning.
“Hey, hey Ryouya. Do you think we’re near the exit yet…?”
“No, no. I highly doubt it. After all, it hasn’t even been a full minute since we entered.”
“If the haunted house ended here, that’d be way too short, right?”
“It’s not short at all. I’ve had more than enough already.”
Seeing Riona like this, looking completely different from her usual cool demeanor, made me feel strangely refreshed. This must be what they call gap moe.
As we were having that exchange, a sudden flash of blinding light accompanied by a loud thunderclap echoed around us. While Reona and I were only mildly startled, it seemed to be extremely effective on Riona.
“Kyaaaaaaa!”
Riona screamed and threw herself onto me and once she latched on, she wouldn’t let go. As we continued down the corridor in that state, we saw the blood-soaked body of a woman with a knife sticking out of her chest lying on the side of the path.
“R-Ryouya… She’s not going to get up, right…?”
Riona asked in a trembling voice, but I couldn’t imagine they’d put that there for no reason. I tried to tell her, but unfortunately, I was too late. The woman suddenly sprang up with a jolt.
“Kyaaaaaaaah!”
Riona let out a loud scream, grabbed my hand, and started running toward the direction we were headed. She was pulling me so hard it actually hurt.
“Ah, hey! Don’t leave me behind!”
Left alone in the dark hallway, Reona hurriedly ran after us. It seemed even Reona didn’t want to be left behind in a place like this.
As we continued, Riona kept screaming at every turn. She clung to me, pulled my hand and even tried to run or froze up and required to be dragged along by me and Reona. clinging to me, It was like a never-ending cycle.
“Oh, looks like that’s the exit.”
“For real? This haunted house is pretty long, huh?”
“Yeah. This is way more intense than I expected.”
“I-I can finally get out…”
When the light from the exit finally came into view, Riona, who had been clinging to my arm the entire time, visibly relaxed. However, haunted houses often scare you right when you let your guard down after seeing the exit, so it was still too early to relax.
Just as I was thinking that, a bloodied severed head fell from the ceiling. Reona and I had expected something like this, but Riona clearly hadn’t.
“I can’t take this anymoooore!”
Riona screamed and yanked on my arm, breaking into a full sprint. She must have been really terrified to pull that hard. Judging from the force of her hand, it was hard to believe she was even a girl. With my hand still gripped tightly by her, Riona and I dashed out of the haunted house at full speed.
“I told you not to leave me behind!”
Reona came out of the haunted house shortly after, panting and scolding us. She must have hurried after us in a panic.
“…Can you let go of me now?”
“Let me stay just a little longer like this…”
It seemed Riona had been seriously frightened. She wouldn’t let go for quite a while. Once she had finally calmed down, we started looking for our next attraction.
“Ryouya-kun, Riona, how about we ride that next?”
“That’s so cute! I want to ride that too!”
“That’s for little kids. I feel like we’d really stand out if we got on it.”
The attraction Reona and Riona wanted to ride was a panda car. Needless to say, the riders were all young kids—kindergarteners or elementary schoolers—accompanied by their parents.
“We’re still minors too, so we’re basically kids.”
“Come on, that’s pushing it too far.”
“Don’t overthink it.”
“Yeah, but still…”
I tried to resist, but in the end, I was overpowered by the two of them. There was no way I could win against them, especially when it was two against one.
“Ryouya, come on. Let’s try riding it.”
“You seriously want me to get on this thing?”
“Come on. Don’t sweat the small stuff”
Dragged by the arms by Reona and Riona, I was forced onto the panda car.
“…Like this?”
“It looks great on you.”
“Yeah, right now you look about 10% cooler than usual, Ryouya-kun.”
“Don’t say stuff you don’t mean. And stop taking pictures of me together, both of you.”
Unlike the beautiful Reona and Riona, me riding a panda car could only be described as a pitiful scene to behold. If someone ever saw that photo, I was sure I’d die of embarrassment.
“Maybe if Ryouya-kun rode that to school, he’d finally make some friends?”
“Finally. Ryouya can break free from his loner life.”
“I’d stand out in the worst way possible, and I can only see myself getting arrested by a cop on the way to school.”
If I really commuted to school on a panda car, there was no doubt it would be all over social media. I’d need to carry that disgrace through generations of my lineage. That said, I knew I would stay a virgin for life. That meant there wouldn’t be any poor descendants to inherit my disgrace.
