ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
After that, the three of us continued our stroll through the Bikan Historical Quarter, and before we knew it, evening had arrived. We were currently in the process of returning the rental kimonos.
“I’m exhausted from all that walking.”
“We did go around to quite a few places together.”
“It was fun.”
“Alright, let’s head to our lodging for tonight.”
“Yeah, okay. I’m counting on you to guide us, Ryouya-kun.”
We left the Bikan District and began walking toward Kurashiki Station while chatting. Tonight, the three of us were staying at my grandmother’s house. Apparently, my mom had already spoken to her in advance.
Reona and Riona had thoroughly negotiated the details with my mom—really, they were completely on top of things. After we left the Bikan District, we arrived at Kurashiki Station and took a train one stop east. After getting off the train, we kept walking for a while until we arrived in front of a house located right next to a baseball stadium called Grape Stadium.
“We’re here.”
“So this is Ryouya’s grandma’s house.”
“It’s near a baseball stadium, huh? I bet it gets super lively on game days.”
As the two of them shared their thoughts, I pressed the intercom button installed beneath the nameplate that read “Kamiki.” A moment later, a voice came through the speaker.
“Yes, this is Kamiki.”
“Oh, Grandma. It’s me, Ryouya.”
“Ryouya, huh. I’ll unlock the door, so hold on a second.”
As always, Grandma replied in her thick Okayama dialect, and soon after, she opened the front door and came out to greet us.
“You came all this way, huh? How’ve you been?”
“I’m good. I’m glad to see you’re looking well too, Grandma.”
“Ain’t you grown taller since I last saw you?”
“Unfortunately, I’ve barely grown at all.”
Grandma always asked if I’d gotten taller every time we met, but I had only grown a single centimeter since last year. I still hadn’t given up on the dream of reaching over 170 centimeters, but considering that my growth spurt was likely reaching its end, even another centimeter was probably the best I could hope for.
“Is Mio-chan not with you?”
“Ah, no. We just came today for the open campus.”
“I see. That’s a little disappointing. By the way, that tall, beautiful girl behind you—could she be the one Saya mentioned over the phone?”
Grandma had noticed Reona and Riona behind me and raised her voice in surprise, so I quickly offered an explanation to her.
“Yeah, they’re my classmates from high school. We came together to visit the open campus at Okayama City University.”
“Nice to meet you. I’m Reona Tsurugi, one of Ryouya-kun’s classmates.”
“Same here, I’m Riona Tsurugi.”
Each of them introduced themselves to Grandma. After hearing that, Grandma smiled in admiration.
“What well-mannered young ladies you are. I’m Ryouya’s grandmother.”
“Ryouya-kun’s grandmother, thank you for having us tonight.”
“Here, this is just a small gift from us.”
“Thank you kindly. You’re such sweet girls.”
Riona handed Grandma a box of sweets that she must’ve pulled out from her backpack at some point, making Grandma look delighted. As I admired their top-tier communication skills, Reona and Riona suddenly said something completely unexpected.
“We believe we’ll be building a long-term relationship with you, so we picked out something nice.”
“We will make Ryouya happy.”
“Wha—what do you mean by that!? D-Don’t tell me…”
“Yes, it’s probably exactly what you’re imagining.”
“Hey! Don’t just casually drop something that outrageous!”
Hearing something that could easily lead to a massive misunderstanding, I couldn’t help but jump in. There was no doubt that Grandma had totally gotten the wrong idea.
I can’t believe I have to clear up this mess the moment we arrive.
Even during dinner, I desperately tried to explain things, but in the end, Grandma never quite got it. Eventually, putting the effort to straighten the misunderstanding only to end up in vain was too much trouble than it was worth, so much so that I just gave up entirely.
Whatever happens, happens.

Chapter 34: Don’t Worry, I’ve Already Thought Through All That
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
After we each finished bathing, a new problem arose. Somehow, Grandma had shown Reona and Riona photos of me as a child. Because of that, my embarrassing past was being exposed one picture after another.
“Ah, Ryouya’s crying with his face all scrunched up.”
“Looks like he dropped his ice cream on the ground. Even his crying face looks kind of cute.”
“…This is so embarrassing I could die.”
My life bar was completely depleted from having too many dark chapters of my past revealed. I seriously wanted someone to just put me out of my misery. Meanwhile, Reona and Riona seemed to be having the time of their lives.
These two are definitely sadists. There’s no doubt about it.
In the end, Reona and Riona went through every single photo album in Grandma’s house without leaving a single one untouched.
“Riona and I are satisfied now, so how about we head to bed now?”
“You’re right. We’re planning to go to a theme park tomorrow after all.”
“I can’t wait for the theme park.”
We started heading to the bedding Grandma had prepared for us. I was going to sleep in the room that used to belong to my grandfather, who passed away a long time ago, and the girls were going to sleep in the guest room next to it.
“I’m pretty sure you already know this, but don’t even think about sneaking into my futon. If you do, Grandma might literally die of shock.”
“Ehh? But we already explained everything to your grandma properly, so I think it’s going to be just fine.”
“No, no. Reona and Riona, you just made up a bunch of lies and fed them to her.”
“Then we’ll just make it true from now on.”
“That’s not any better!”
Reona and Riona were energetic right up until bedtime. Also, Riona just casually admitted she was lying huh?
And with that, our day came to an end.
◇◇◇
The next morning, after leaving Grandma’s house, we arrived at the entrance of Okayama Milano Park. It had only taken about five minutes on foot from Okayama Station’s east exit, so it was a really short trip.
“Alright, let’s head in right away.”
“Let’s have tons of fun together today!”
“Theme parks are exciting no matter how old you are.”
Reona and Riona were as hyped as little kids. By the way, we had already bought all-you-can-ride attraction passes through an online store, so we didn’t have to line up at the ticket window.
We showed our smartphone screens to the staff and passed through the entry gate. Right away, we saw large attractions like a ferris wheel and a roller coaster coming into view.
“Hmm, what should we ride first?”
“There are so many options, it’s honestly hard to decide.”
“I’ve got a few personal recommendations, but I’m not sure if they’d match your tastes. Let’s just look at the pamphlet and decide.”
“Yeah, let’s do that.”
The three of us started discussing which attractions to go on. After a bit of talking, we decided our first ride would be the viking ship. As we headed over, we saw that it already had a pretty long line.
“Looks like the viking ride is popular too.”
“Judging by the queue, we might have to wait a while.”
“People really love thrill rides after all.”
“Let’s just get in line for now.”
Considering how the roller coasters and water rides we passed on the way in also had long lines as well, it was clear thrill rides were a big hit.
“By the way, once summer break ends, isn’t it almost time for the school trip and the school festival?”
“That’s right. I can’t wait for the school trip.”
Listening to Reona and Riona’s conversation, I realized that both the school trip and the school festival were coming up soon. For a loner like me with no friends, both events were pretty painful experiences. Incidentally, Amagi High’s school festival was a combination of what other schools called the cultural festival and the sports festival. Two days were dedicated to the cultural portion, and the last day was for the athletic events.
“…The school trip I can manage, but I seriously wish the school festival preparation after school would just get canceled entirely.”
“Now, now, Ryouya-kun. Don’t say such negative things.”
“This year’s festival is definitely going to be fun.”
“But this year is our turn for the class play, right? That’s just way too much for a loner like me to handle.”
Since the second-year students were in charge of the play, it required everyone to work together on costumes, props, and rehearsals. For someone like me who would no doubt be left out, it was going to be pure torture.
“Don’t worry, I’ve already thought through all that.”
“Just leave it to Onee-chan.”
“I’d really prefer if you explained exactly what you mean by ‘thought through’…”
“That’s for you to find out later.”
I tried asking Reona out of curiosity and concern for my well being, but she showed no sign of giving me a straight answer. I had a really bad feeling she was planning something outrageous, and I couldn’t help but feeling extremely worried about my future.
