Chapter 58 The Demo-Human Girl Tremble with Fear
◆???◆
“They’re targeting Mion, as expected.”
“I thought they’d come after her, but they’re pretty predictable.”
High above the port town of Acreana…
Cloaked by magic, Croix and Wiel watched from the sky as Mion was knocked unconscious. The demon, disguised as a fishfolk, was unaware of their watchful eyes. The demon wrapped Mion in a robe and dashed through the back alleys.
“Is that a magic eye?”
“Most likely, and it’s a pretty refined one.”
The magic eye—a special eye that can cast magic without using magical power, albeit in a limited way. Because it doesn’t use magical energy, it leaves no trace or disturbance of magic. Therefore, it’s considered impossible to defend against magic eye spells, especially for those who can’t use magic.
There is only one way for an ordinary person to defend against magic eye spells:
Develop a physical resistance strong enough to withstand the effects of the magic eye.
For a magic user, there are two ways:
One, constantly anticipate magical attacks and maintain an anti-magic spell on oneself.
Two, possess an overwhelming amount of magical power that can repel the magic itself.
Mion has yet to learn anti-magic spells.
In other words, at this moment, Mion has no way to defend against the magic eye.
“What should we do? Should we help her?”
“No, she’ll be fine.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Mion can handle something like this on her own.”
“You’re right.”
Although Mion doesn’t have a way to defend against the magic eye, if it comes to taking down the enemy, she’s more than capable.
“Besides, if she somehow contacts us, we have that phrase to make her serious.”
“Ah, that phrase.”
“Yeah. So, let’s leave this demon to Mion.”
Croix and Wiel watched as Mion and the demon moved farther away. Once they had vanished from sight, the two returned to the hotel.
“Now then, shall we go on that aquarium date?”
“Sounds good. Just the two of us for a change.”
“Hehe, I’m looking forward to it.”
◆
Two days later.
“…This is strange.”
“I told you so.”
Deep within a cave, Anela sat on a rock with her arms crossed. Beside her, Mion lay wrapped tightly in a bundle, unable to move. Since waking up, Mion had been informed of this fishfolk demon’s plans.
Anela’s intention was to use Mion as a hostage to lure and kill Croix. Despite Mion repeatedly telling her that it wouldn’t work, Anela refused to listen. As a result, two days had passed with Mion still tied up.
“When those three thugs got involved, that guy was furious. I knew better than to touch the other woman, so I kidnapped you instead…”
“Well, Croix-sama does get angry when it involves Wiel-sama. But I’m just his apprentice. He probably sees this as a chance to let me handle it on my own.”
Mion’s prediction was spot on, though neither of them knew it at the time. Anela, growing increasingly frustrated, destroyed a nearby skull with her tail.
(Damn it, this is pointless. Kidnapping her is meaningless if they don’t care… Or maybe they haven’t found this place yet? Yes, that’s possible. Haha, they probably haven’t come because my concealment is flawless.)
Anela’s thoughts took a strange turn. Deciding on a new course of action, she used her magic eye on a bat residing in the cave. The bat’s eyes glowed eerily before it flew out of the cave.
Less than an hour later, the crystal Anela was holding began to glow, revealing the images of Croix and Wiel inside.
“Hmm, it is indeed the demon from that time.”
“Oh my, now that I look closely, you have quite a cute face.”
(—Wha…?)
Anela couldn’t understand what they were saying. The ones currently with Croix and Wiel were bats controlled by Anela’s magic eye. Through the bats’ eyes, she could see their image in the crystal. But they shouldn’t be able to see her.
Were they bluffing? Laying a trap? Either way, this wasn’t the time to fall for their tactics.
“I have your precious apprentice. If you value her life, the man should come here alone.”
“I refuse.”
“…”
“What?”
“I knew it…”
Anela was stunned, while Mion simply shook her head in exasperation. Their reactions couldn’t have been more different.
“There’s no need for me to go there,” Croix said. “Mion can handle someone like you on her own.”
“What nonsense! I have my magic eye, and she’s tied up. Killing her would be easier than twisting a baby’s arm.”
“Is that so…? By the way, Mion,” Croix suddenly addressed her.
Mion tensed up, sensing something ominous coming.
“Tomorrow is the promised third day. If you don’t return by then, the intensity of your training will be five times more intense.”
—The worst possible response she could imagine came back.
“Well then, see you.”
“We’ll be waiting for you, Mion~”
Click! The sound of the connection being cut echoed through the cave.
But that wasn’t the only sound.
There was a bizarre noise, like something being torn apart.
When Anela slowly turned around, what she saw was…
“W-w-w-w-what the hell?!”
Mion, who had just ripped through the ropes, was trembling all over.
Those ropes were tied so securely that breaking them should have been impossible, even with body-strengthening magic.
In other words…
“I don’t want five times the training!! Noooooooo!!!!”
There was no doubt about it—she was a monster too.
