Chapter 59 The Demi-Human Girl Shows Her True Side
The amount of magical power Mion was now emitting was beyond anything Anela had ever felt. The magic surged from Mion’s body, causing cracks to form in the cave walls and the ground to tremble. Anela instinctively stepped back, her body shaking as cold sweat dripped from her cheeks onto the ground.
When she had observed Mion through the eyes of the three thugs, she had assumed that as long as she was cautious of Croix and Wiel, she would be fine. But the aura emanating from Mion now was completely different—it was clear with just one look.
There was no way Anela could defeat those two, so she had targeted Mion. She had planned to use Mion as a hostage to limit Croix’s movements and then kill him with the help of her superior, the Demon Eye Emperor Balba. But her plan had backfired.
(Damn it, damn it, damn it! What was I thinking?! There’s no way this rabbitfolk traveling with those two monsters wouldn’t be a monster herself!)
But it was too late to realize that now. Triggered by the magical words “five times the training intensity,” Mion had unconsciously unleashed her dormant magical potential to avoid it at all costs.
Light leaked from Mion’s eyes, and mysterious smoke rose from her mouth. The sight of Mion, looking more like a demon than a demon, made Anela recoil in horror.
(Calm down. I need to calm down. I have the Demon Eye. And Balba-sama recognized my abilities and even enhanced them. With this eye, I can’t lose.)
Anela tried to steady herself under the oppressive force radiating from Mion, focusing her Demon Eye on Mion. She needed to put Mion to sleep and neutralize her power, or the cave would collapse. She prepared to use the magic of her Demon Eye, but—
“RAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!”
“!?!”
Mion’s roar shattered the magic Anela was trying to cast with her Demon Eye. The sleep spell should have been impossible to repel unless the target had either incredible physical strength or overwhelming magical power.
Anela checked again with her Demon Eye. Mion’s physical strength and magical power were both inferior to Croix and Wiel’s. But without a doubt, her spell had just been repelled.
(Why?! Why was my magic repelled?! This rabbitfolk shouldn’t be able to…!)
I need to escape, or I’ll be killed.
Anella wasn’t a warrior or a knight; she had no qualms about running from an enemy. She quickly turned around and sprinted through the cave, heading for the exit.
“Five times, five times, five times, five times, five times, five times, five times! I can’t handle five times the training intensityyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!”
A scream echoed from behind.
And then, Anela finally realized it.
It wasn’t that Mion had physically deflected the magic, nor had she repelled it with sheer magical power, or even anti-magic. This was fear.
It was Mion’s fear of Croix and Wiel that had nullified the sleep magic.
(That’s impossible! My sleep magic is among the best in the Demon King’s army! Even if it’s not as powerful as Balba-sama’s, there’s no one who can resist it!)
But it was happening right before her eyes, and she couldn’t deny it.
Desperate to get away from Mion, Anela sprinted with all her might, darting out of the cave. The sudden shift from darkness to daylight made her dizzy for a moment, but she didn’t stop running. She planned to escape into the forest and disappear.
Or so she thought.
“Huh…?”
Suddenly, something appeared in front of her.
Even with her demonic reflexes and sharp perception, it took her a moment to recognize what it was—Mion. Mion was standing there. The same Mion who had been in the cave just moments ago had somehow overtaken her.
It made no sense.
Anela knew that the rabbitfolk were fast, and she had accounted for the fact that Mion was enhancing her body with magic. But this speed was beyond anything she could comprehend. It was too fast.
Anela’s mind went blank. She couldn’t accelerate or stop in time. All she saw was Mion’s right leg coming toward her before her consciousness was completely engulfed in darkness.
“I have to go back, I have to go back, I have to go back, I have to go back, I have to go back, I have to go back—where am I?!?!”
Mion glanced at the unconscious Anela, then leaped away without a second thought.

“…Ugh…?”
Anela woke up with a sharp pain in her face. She wasn’t sure how long she had been out; her vision was blurry and she couldn’t see anything clearly. However, she knew she was still alive.
It seemed her defensive magic had prevented any fatal injuries. But the pain in her face was intense, to the point where death would have seemed preferable. Her body was also unresponsive. She needed to focus on recovery.
Demons are known for their superior healing abilities, so she hoped she would eventually recover if she just waited.
(Damn it… As Balba-sama said, I shouldn’t have gotten involved with those monsters…)
She concentrated solely on her breathing.
Then she sensed someone standing close by.
“Anela… What have you done?”
(This voice… Balba-sama…!?)
Though she couldn’t see him, there was no mistaking her master’s voice. The Demon Eye Emperor Balba was right beside her.
“I told you repeatedly not to engage those people. Did you not consider that your reckless actions could endanger me and the Demon King?”
“I-I’m sorry…”
“Enough. Don’t speak.”
Balba placed a hand on Anela’s head and gathered his magical power.
He was going to heal her, she thought, and closed her eyes in anticipation.
“If they discover you are alive, they might learn that you are one of my subordinates. I don’t want our connection revealed… I’m sorry, but this is where it ends for you.”
“…What?”
Immediately afterward, Anela’s heart was crushed by some unseen force, and she bled out before dying.
“Ha… What a bother.”
Balba sighed softly and disappeared into the shadows.
The body left behind was soon reduced to ashes, drifting away into the air.
