Chapter 57 A Demi-Human Girl Gets Caught Up in Trouble
Mion returned to the hotel, prepared, and then set out into the town alone.
It was her first day off in a long time. And with only three days to spend in the town, she needed to make sure she rested properly.
With that in mind, she jumped from rooftop to rooftop, taking in a bird’s-eye view of the town.
The canals and sea glittered under the sunlight.
The buildings with their white exterior walls.
Seeing it again, it really was a beautiful town.
“Wow…!”
The city of Apuu and the royal capital were impressive, but in terms of beauty, Acreana was the best.
And since she rarely had the chance to see a town from above, it felt incredibly fresh.
“For now, let’s get some food!”
She jumped down to a less crowded spot on the main street and began browsing the food stalls with the wallet Wiel had given her.
Since she’d only been going back and forth between the sea and the hotel, this was her first time in this area.
There were not only humans but also fellow rabbitfolk, dogfolk, catfolk, and dwarves, making it a lively place.
“As expected from a tourist city, it’s really crowded… I guess if Wiel-sama were left alone, she might never find her way back.”
Mion muttered something rather rude under her breath.
She thought she heard a sneeze from far away, but it was probably just her imagination. Surely.
But anyone who had seen that kind of directionlessness up close would think the same.
Mion wandered through the food stalls, purchasing a steamed sweet potato, vegetable sticks, and a whole apple.
Since it’s a port town, there was a lot of seafood. The next most common was meat.
Although most of the food wasn’t suitable for rabbitfolk like Mion, there were plenty of stalls offering rabbitfolk-friendly options, so she had no trouble finding something to eat.
She leapt back onto the roof of a building and surveyed the area while munching on her vegetable sticks.
“(The market in the capital was amazing, but this place is incredible too. I didn’t know anything about the world until now.)”
Until now, she had thought that her father, the strongest warrior in the village, was the most powerful person in the world.
But she was wrong.
She learned that there is a malevolent force capable of destroying everything.
However, she also discovered that there is something beyond reason that can overpower that malevolence.
There was still so much she didn’t know, and she realized that she would continue to learn many things in the future. She knew too little.
As she gazed absentmindedly at the main street, her rabbitfolk hearing picked up an unusual sound.
The angry shouts of an adult and the sound of something being hit.
It was definitely trouble.
“Where…?!”
But within Mion, there was no option to ignore the trouble.
She closed her eyes and focused on her hearing. Instantly, more information than usual flooded into her ears.
Voices, the sound of running, the rustling of clothes—the reflections of these sounds allowed her to identify the shapes and locations of the people around her just from the noise.
“This is… oh.”
She realized that she had unconsciously concentrated her magic into her ears.
In other words, she had applied body enhancement magic to her ears, which significantly heightened her hearing.
But this also meant that all the information from the surrounding area was pouring into her brain at once—
“Ow…! M-my head… hurts…!”
It was inevitable that the overload of information caused a headache.
In just that brief moment, her magic control faltered, causing her to break out in a heavy sweat as she crouched down in pain.
But she had pinpointed the location. There was no time to be crouching here.
Mion quickly stood up and made her way toward the source of the sound, moving along the rooftops.
“There…!”
She heard a dull sound and a voice coming from an alleyway.
When she rushed in, she saw a large man beating someone wearing a robe with a club.
She couldn’t tell the victim’s gender, but if this continued, the victim might be killed.
Mion deliberately avoided gathering magic into her legs as she delivered a flying kick to the large man’s back.
“Gugh?!”
The man was sent flying, spinning several times before crashing into a wall, leaving a large hole.
He was probably not dead. Maybe.
“Over here!”
Mion grabbed the hand visible from beneath the robe and ran down the main street.
She kept her speed controlled, running for a while.
Once they were a certain distance away, she let go of the hand.
“Now that we’re here, you should be safe. Are you alright?”
“Yes, I’m fine. Thank you.”
Despite having been beaten moments earlier, the voice responded without a hint of pain or fatigue. The cool temperature she felt from the hand, the blue skin, and the slight scales indicated that this was definitely a non-human being.
Given that, the durability made sense.
“Well… Is there some sort of trouble? If so, consulting my masters might solve it.”
“Oh, how kind of you. Yes, I am indeed in a bit of trouble.”
As she spoke in a beautiful voice, she removed her hood.
It was a woman, but with blue skin, scales, and distinct red eyes.
“A member of the fishmen tribe, then?”
“Well, something close to that.”
“I see. And what’s the trouble you’re facing?”
“It’s about the elimination of a hero.”
“…Huh?”
Immediately, the woman’s eyes glowed with an eerie light— and Mion’s consciousness fell into darkness.
