Chapter 45 The Hero’s Father’s Weakness is Discovered
In the end, Mion wasn’t able to master walking on water that day.
Perhaps due to exhaustion, she was lying sprawled out on the bed.
“Nyeh… I can’t muster any strength…”
“Good job today, Mion-chan. Dinner will be arriving soon.”
“It seems there’s a special room service for demi-humans here. I’ve ordered the top-tier salad course for you.”
Growwwwwllll…
No matter how tired she was, her hunger couldn’t be ignored. The sound of Mion’s stomach echoed through the room.
“Ah…”
“It’s understandable. It’s been a while since you’ve had to relax so completely. Let’s enjoy it for a bit, shall we?”
“…Yes, if Wiel-sama says so, I’ll stretch my legs a little!”
As Mion jumped out of bed, the doorbell rang.
“Mion-chan, please open the door.”
“Yes!”
Humming a tune, Mion opened the door.
There were five wagons lined up outside, covered with transparent covers.
As expected from the port city of Acreana, there was a lot of seafood. There was also meat and salad, making for a well-balanced menu.
“Wow, isn’t this a lot?”
“The wagon with the salads is yours, Mion-chan. The rest is mostly for me. Wiel eats very little.”
“I-I see…”
During the journey, both Croix and Wiel hadn’t eaten much. They had only killed as many beasts as necessary, avoiding excessive killing. Given his builds, it was expected that he ate a lot, but the amount they ordered was unexpected.
The dishes were laid out on the table. The sheer quantity was something Mion had never seen, even at village festivals.
“Well then, let’s eat.”
“Yes.”
“Y-yes!”
Croix and Wiel joined their hands in prayer, and Mion followed suit. This was a custom from Wiel’s place of origin. It was a prayer to the god who provided the food and a gesture of gratitude to the ingredients that would become their flesh and blood.
After a brief moment of prayer, Croix released his hands, and the others followed.
“Now, eat as much as you like. It seems all of this is provided by His Majesty.”
“I feel a bit guilty about it, though…”
“Mion-chan, don’t worry about it. The vegetables are fresh and delicious.”
Seeing Wiel eating a salad stick, Mion also began munching.
“!? Delicious…!”
“Isn’t it?”
“Yes!”
Suddenly, Mion’s appetite surged, and she devoured the salad with gusto. Croix silently bit into chunks of meat, not bothering to cut it, just chewing it directly.
In contrast, Wiel elegantly cut the meat, separated the fish, and drank the soup, behaving almost like a refined young lady.
Then, Mion noticed something. Wiel had a wine glass, but Croix only had water.
“Uh, Croix-sama, don’t you drink alcohol?”
“Indeed. As a warrior, one should always be in a state of readiness. Alcohol dulls the senses, so I avoid drinking it.”
“I-I see…!”
Mion liked alcohol, so she honestly felt like having a drink. However, since her mentor Croix said so, she decided to follow his example…
“No, it’s just that he doesn’t drink because alcohol changes his personality.”
“Could you not ruin the mood when I’m trying to look cool?”
──It was a letdown.
“Wait, Croix-sama, you can’t drink alcohol?”
“No, no, that’s not it. I like alcohol. It’s just that alcohol doesn’t like me.”
“That’s not really an answer…”
But it was surprising. You wouldn’t expect someone of his size to be unable to drink.
“By the way, how does your personality change when you drink?”
“I won’t tell Mion-chan.”
“Huh?”
“I’m not telling!”
“‘Not telling,’ huh?”
Upon closer inspection, Wiel’s cheeks were flushed. And no wonder—there were three bottles of wine next to her.
Mion also liked alcohol, but drinking that much would knock her out instantly. However, Wiel didn’t seem affected at all; she was barely tipsy.
“Y-You’re amazing, Wiel-sama.”
“Yeah. By the way, the unlimited wine cellar was prepared by His Majesty just for Wiel.”
“I had a feeling.”
Putting such a heavy drinker in a luxury hotel would likely result in a staggering bill just for the alcohol.
“Mion-chan, feel free to drink whatever you like. I’m going to enjoy my meal.”
“Y-Yes, understood. Thank you!”
With that, Mion headed eagerly towards the wine cellar.
