Chapter 30 The Hero’s Father vs Demon Sword Emperor Doreal
“Ha… It’s over.”
“Good job.”
“Ah, thank you… Wait, what is that…?”
Mion had finished off even the hidden demons detected by her hearing and returned to Croix and the others. However, perhaps due to exhaustion, she could no longer stand properly and collapsed to the ground.
“I’m sorry. My legs gave out…”
“There’s no need to worry. Even though they were demons, it was your first time killing living creatures, right? It’s only natural to feel this way.”
Croix offered words of encouragement, but Mion realized something from them. She thought she was prepared to kill. No, she had convinced herself of it.
Making the decision to kill and then actually doing it are different things. While it’s easy to say you’re prepared, the actual execution is much harder.
Until just now, she had been fighting desperately to survive. But now that it was over, she could still vividly feel the sensation of killing creatures in her legs.
“Indeed… This is tough.”
“Right. To kill others means to ensure your own survival. The resolve to kill is built on the foundation of lives. It’s something you can’t understand with words alone; you have to experience it.”
Croix gently patted Mion’s head, and the warmth and kindness from his hand gradually eased the discomfort lingering in her legs.
“I’ve said it before, but you need to get used to the feeling of killing. But if you become too accustomed to it, you’ll be no different from a madman. Think carefully about it. Thinking is also part of training.”
“…Yes. Thank you.”
Mion thanked him and, with her strength returning to her legs, managed to stand up. Seeing this, Croix let out a wry smile and remarked, “Still, though…”
“Being reckless is fine, but you need to pay a bit more attention.”
“Huh?”
“Look behind you.”
Mion turned around as instructed by Croix. There, lying on the ground with a bloody nose and a shoe print on his face, was Alka. It seemed the flow of the recent kick had hit him. The fact that he wasn’t dead was likely due to the hero’s self-regeneration abilities and the durability inherited from Croix.
“Is the hero alright!?”
“His face is dented!”
“Hey, wake up, hero!”
“…U, uu…?”
The sword woman, magician, and martial artist huddled around Alka with concern. However, he quickly regained consciousness, thanks to his self-regeneration.
“I-I’m sorry.”
“Don’t worry about it. Control is just a matter of getting used to it. You’ll get used to it quickly.”
“No, that’s not what I meant.”
The apology was actually for kicking his son Alka. However, Wiel seemed to be smiling and didn’t appear to mind. Considering what happened yesterday, it might be understandable. Moreover, Mion felt a bit relieved, thinking that if Alka hadn’t acted the way he did, the village might have been attacked.
“So, Croix-sama, are we heading to Doreal now?”
“No, we’re staying here.”
“Huh?”
“Because they’re coming from that direction.”
“Are you all my enemies?”
A shiver ran down everyone’s spine.
A voice suddenly came from above. Following Croix’s gaze, they looked up to see a grotesque creature.
The lower body was that of a scorpion, with four pairs of legs moving with a creaking sound. Purple liquid dripped from its poison stinger, melting the rubble below.
The upper body resembled a human, but it had three pairs of six arms, each gripping a sword. Four eyes darted around, glaring down at Croix and his group.
The sheer grotesqueness of the creature caused everyone except Croix and Wiel to shrink back in fear. Croix responded to the creature’s query.
“Yes. We are your enemies.”
“According to the information, the hero’s party was supposed to be four people… but that’s a trivial matter. Anyone standing in my way is an enemy of Doreal.”
The grotesque creature, Doreal, readied its magic sword and leapt down from the ruins. The ground cracked upon landing, and a murderous aura filled the area.
The demonic killing intent was so intense it was hair-raising. Before fear could fully settle in, the urge to flee dominated. Among the enemies Mion had faced in the past, this one was the most sinister.
Well, among enemies…
“Hmm. I see, you’re strong. I suppose I should… get serious.”
The killing intent radiating from Croix blew away Doreal’s murderous aura, engulfing it and adding pressure.
Mion and Alka envisioned a fearsome warrior standing behind Croix. What must Doreal think of Croix in front of such a monstrous being?
“You… you might be stronger than the hero.”
“Is that so?”
“That will do…!”
Doreal leaped high into the air.
“Magic Sword: Six Virtues Rain Blade!”
From the sky high above, six magic swords rained down like a torrential storm.
They were moving so fast they couldn’t be tracked by the eye, and the six magic swords were beyond human capability. Even if two were barely blocked, the remaining four would slice through the opponent.
So what to do… it’s simple.
“Hmph!!”
──Just swing your fists faster.
A multitude of punches, far surpassing the speed of Doreal’s sword strikes, were unleashed and shattered all of the magic swords into fragments in an instant.
“……………………………………What…!? My magic swords are being destroyed!?!?”
“Even magic swords are still physical objects… There’s nothing I can’t break.”
