Chapter 31 The Hero’s Father Overwhelms
Doreal screamed, clutching the remnants of his swords in his hands.
Despite the exaggerated expression of despair on his face, there was no real sense of anger or hopelessness. Rather, his screams were so over-the-top that it seemed unnatural. Feeling an inexplicable unease, Mion hid behind Wiel.
“Was that sword really important to him…?”
“I doubt it. I don’t think demons have concepts like importance or connections,” Wiel replied.
Demons generally operate in a hierarchical society. They only understand negative concepts like taking, deceiving, and killing. It’s unlikely they would get so upset over something breaking. Of course, it’s possible Doreal is different from other demons and has an attachment to objects. However, if that’s not the case, his reaction must have some other meaning.
While Mion was suspiciously observing Doreal…
Suddenly, Doreal’s mouth twisted into a crescent-shaped grin.
“You!”
“Heheh… Die!!”
“!!”
The scorpion tail bent sharply and stabbed into Croix’s shoulder. The poison, capable of dissolving rocks, was injected into Croix through the fist-sized stinger.
“Hahahaha! Do you think I’d use a real magic sword against an inferior species like you?! That so-called supreme masterpiece was just a dull blade made by some inferior species over a hundred years ago! It was always meant to be disposable!”
Doreal restrained Croix’s arms with two of his hands and used the remaining hands to stab the remnants of the swords into Croix’s body.
“This poison kills instantly with just a tiny amount. But you’re too dangerous… I’ll keep stabbing you until you’re minced meat!”
A storm of attacks rained down on Croix’s body. Even Wiel couldn’t cast a spell because Croix and Doreal were too close together. Mion collapsed to her knees in despair, and Alka and the others watched in stunned silence.
However, it was Doreal who noticed something amiss.
(What is this? Even with broken swords, the impact feels unusually dull. With my demonic strength, his body should have been minced by now, but… huh…?)
He realized it. He realized that Croix’s body was completely unharmed.
“Wha… huh…?”
“Hmm, are you done? That was quite a ticklish attack.”
“What… how are you still alive…?”
He had already injected dozens of lethal doses of poison. Yet Croix was alive. He was even speaking. Doreal’s mind couldn’t comprehend the situation. He was at a loss.
“Sorry, but I’ve been trained differently. Poison doesn’t work on me, and your broken swords can’t even scratch my well-trained body.”
Croix shook off the arms that restrained him, grabbed the stinger embedded in his shoulder, and casually crushed it.
“Higii!?”
“Softer than I thought. You need more protein.”
[1]That’s not the issue here.
Everyone’s thoughts inadvertently aligned.
Doreal retreated at high speed, gasping for breath, discarding the remnants of his swords, and glaring at Croix.
“Gah, haah…! What are you… what are you?! Are you really human?!”
“How rude. Can’t you see I’m human?”
“Where do you look human?!”
On this point, both Mion and Alka had to agree. This fight was not between a human and a non-human; it was between two non-humans.
“To have most of my subordinates killed, and to be humiliated like this by an inferior species that isn’t even the hero…!”
“I didn’t mean to humiliate you.”
“Shut up, bo–augh!?”
Croix’s sharp, heavy fist slammed into Doreal’s face. The massive figure flew through the air, smashing through rubble and still not stopping. It finally came to a halt after flying several dozen meters.
“Ugh… damn it…!”
“Oh, you survived my ultimate five-tenths punch… As expected of one of the Demon King’s Four Heavenly Kings. Well then, let’s increase the power a bit… Hm?”
Croix paused. Doreal’s killing intent, condensed into a viscous pressure, clung to the air. The intensity and thickness of this pressure clearly indicated that he had not given up.
“I will kill you… kill, kill, kill you all!!”
Doreal, enduring the pain, stood up and raised his six arms to the sky.
“Manifest from the netherworld, the six extreme demonic swords forged by the devil—’Demons’ Karma of Heaven’s Destruction!'”
Immediately, six magic circles appeared above Doreal. As they spun, emitting jet-black lightning, sinister blades emerged from Doreal centers. Each sword had a different shape, with pulsating blades and hilts inscribed with the characters 【Heaven】【Human】【Asura】【Animal】【Hungry Ghost】【Hell】.
These were nothing like the superior-grade swords crafted by humans from before.
These were genuine, true demonic swords.
