Chapter 51: Let’s Take on Our First Quest!
“—Oh, right. So, if we wait until Aria Feruste is asleep, we can sneak Adin into the room, no problem.”
“I see… Even with Aria-san, if she’s asleep, she’d be defenseless, right?”
“Exactly, and at night, we succubi are more active, so if we factor that in—”
“I’m hearing something quite unpleasant, if you two try anything, I’ll definitely hunt you down.”
“A-Aria-san and Adin-san! Hello, what brings you here today?”
Milena, who had been talking to Etenela, quickly turned to face us, smiling.
“We came to accept Adin-kun’s quest.”
“Ah, Adin-san’s quest, I see… wait, Adin-san’s… quest!?”
Milena was very surprised by this. It wasn’t hard to see why—Aria-san had never allowed me to go on a quest before.
“Huh? Why is Milena so surprised?”
Etenela seemed confused by Milena’s reaction.
Ah, I see. Etenela didn’t know I had never been on a quest before.
Once Milena explained the situation to Etenela, she raised her voice in shock.
“What!? No way! Adin has never gone on a quest before? Then does that mean Adin is ranked lower than that guy over there, even as an adventurer?”
“At this point, yes.”
“Is the ranking system broken or something…? I can totally believe Adin is an S-rank adventurer!”
“Etenela-san, there’s no need for any flattery, really. I’m still far behind Aria-san,” I said modestly.
“Who are you even comparing yourself to? Compared to Aria Feruste, almost everyone is still inexperienced!”
“That’s right, Adin-san. Remember when a huge monster horde attacked the town? You took down about two hundred monsters, didn’t you?”
“Yeah, but after that, I used almost all my magic, so I’m still far from perfect,” I responded.
“…Aria Feruste, what kind of education did you give him?”
“At that time, I was just trying to teach Adin-kun everything I could to keep him safe, but… this time, I agree with them. Adin-kun is already… plenty strong.”
“Really…?”
“Yes, I hope this quest will make that clear to you,” Aria-san said, smiling gently.
Her smile encouraged me, so I responded with a cheerful “Yes!”
Then, Milena handed me several quest forms and said,
“Adin-san, since you’re currently at an E-rank level, you can only take quests that correspond to that rank. Here are your options.”
“I see… well, I’ll take this quest,” I said, pointing to one.
“…Slime extermination, huh?”
“Yeah, it looks like the most rewarding one.”
“Rewarding… but slimes are the lowest-level monsters, you know?”
“Well, Aria-san always said I wouldn’t even be able to defeat a slime, so I want to test myself to see if I can beat one now.”
When I said that, both Milena and Etenela gave Aria-san a cold look, but Aria-san just turned her face away.
Milena turned back to me.
“Alright, I’ll register your quest… good luck on your first quest, Adin-san.”
Smiling at me, Milena encouraged me.
“Thanks! I’ll do my best!”
“I’ll be accompanying you,” Aria added.
“Got it.”
“…Huh? Accompanying? I want to come too, for Adin’s first—”
“Hey Milena, is there a request to hunt down a demon lord’s minion or something? If there is, I’ll do it right now.”
“Not at the moment.”
“Ah, too bad.”
“Ugh, you’re so mean! The only one on my side is Adin!”
Etenela pouted as she tried to get closer to me, but Aria-san pushed her away, saying,
“Adin-kun is obviously on my side.”
“My side!”
“That’s not true at all.”
Even though I was about to head off on my first quest, the usual atmosphere was still in play… but honestly, it kind of helped ease my nerves.
After that, Aria and I set off together to tackle the slime extermination quest.
Though I was a little nervous, I was more excited than anything else.
