Chapter 52: First Quest Complete!
When we arrived at the meadow where the quest was to take place, I quickly spotted three slimes.
“Aria-san, Aria-san! I found them! I found the slimes!”
“I see them, Adin-kun. You seem excited.”
“Of course! It’s my first quest!”
“…, if I had known I could see such a cute side of Adin-kun, I should have let you go on quests sooner.”
“Huh?”
“Ah, never mind!”
After that conversation, we moved stealthily to a place where the slimes wouldn’t notice us, getting as close as we possibly could.
The quest was to deal with slimes in the meadow that would approach people when they were picking flowers. They’d try to paralyze them and prevent them from moving. The task was to eliminate the slimes.
As I thought about the task ahead, I realized something.
“Adventurer… Aria-san, does this mean I’m officially taking on a quest as an adventurer now?!”
“Yes! Adin-kun, you’re now an adventurer in name and deed.”
“…!!! I’m going to defeat those slimes!!”
With that, I ran towards the slimes.
“Ah, Adin-kun! The thought of not being able to watch your energetic self up close like this… it’s scary, but… we can’t stay like this forever…”
As I faced the slimes and drew my sword out, Aria-san caught up to me. She watched me and said,
“Adin-kun, slimes are hard to defeat with just physical attacks. You’d need considerable physical strength or a powerful body enhancement spell. It’s better to use magic, especially lightning magic, which will make it much easier to defeat them.”
“I see… I’ll try that!”
Following Aria-san’s advice, I sheathed my sword and cast a lightning spell at the slimes.
Before they could even make a sound, the slimes exploded.
“You did it, Adin-kun!”
“So… does this mean the quest is complete…?!”
“Yes! Now we just need to report it to Milena!”
I had completed my first quest…!
Honestly, I expected a bit more of a challenge, but I guess that means I’ve gotten stronger… and the reason I’ve gotten stronger is because of—
“Aria-san, thank you.”
“Huh…? Thank you for what?”
“Thank you for making me this strong.”
“I never thought I’d be thanked for lying to you about slimes being strong just so I could keep you from taking quests… I’m surprised.”
“True, I always wanted to go on a quest, but… if I had gone, I might have gotten cocky and tried to fight stronger monsters, and I might not have made it back. I might not be as strong as I am now… So right now, I can only be thankful to you, Aria-san.”
“Adin-kun…”
Aria-san seemed like she was about to hug me… but just before she did, she stopped herself and pulled her arms back.
“We need to report to Milena first. After that, I’ll tell you the two things I’ve been wanting to say.”
“Y-Yes…!”
Right, I almost forgot because of the excitement of my first quest, but today I was going to hear the two important things Aria-san wanted to tell me—things that had made her voice tremble, even worrying that I might dislike her. It must be something very important…
But no matter what, today I would end it with a smile, making it the best day possible.
With that thought in mind, Aria-san and I headed to the adventurer’s guild together, reported the slime extermination to Milena, and with that, I officially completed my very first quest.
