Chapter 15: Hiiragi’s True Feelings 1
I conveyed everything to Hiiragi without holding back. I let her know that her plan was as plain as day, and that it wouldn’t work out well in the end as well. So, it would be better to find a different way.
Even though initially Hiiragi denied it all, but halfway through, she became quiet and right now, she’s hunched on her seat and hiding her expression.
The wall clock in the empty classroom continues to tick away. Once the second hand makes just one more full rotation, I’ll take Hiiragi’s silence as acknowledgment and take it as a cue to be on my way after that.
“…Sigh. So, you figured it out, haah?”
Right after I made up my mind on that, Hiiragi spoke up.
I shift my gaze from the wall clock to Hiiragi. There’s a sense of resignation in her expression.
“Well obviously. With you pushing so hard like that, even if I don’t want to it’s plain as day.”
“But I got no choice. Even I am really desperate about it.”
“Well, you certainly have nothing but being persuasive as the only trait… But still, you were denying it all so hard in the start, and then suddenly you became so honest like this huh.”
“Aah, …..how should I put this, I mean, since you know so much about it already, I’m feeling a little burned out about it right now,…….”
Saying that so ambiguously, Hiiragi then sighed lightly before laughing at herself.
“Somehow, I’m just… dead tired of it now. Tired of my unrequited love.”
“Tired?”
“Yeah… I am tired.”
Despite her casual tone, the words from her mouth carried a lot of weight. The words “tired” that spilled out of Hiiragi’s mouth, was definitely nothing less than her genuine feeling.
She lowered her gaze to the desk and began to tell the story on how she fell in love with Ryogokuku.
“It’s really nothing that special you know, the reason I fell for him. We were in the same class from our first year, and I thought he was cool~… And as we talked, I realized he was kind too~… before I knew it, I found my eyes following him all the time…”
At that point, she paused and looked up at me. As expected, I couldn’t just remain unresponsive in here, so I nodded as a confirmation.
“But as I started to like him more, he started avoiding me more and more. Even now, although he doesn’t ignore me, but he won’t let me get close… It felt like he was sending a message like that. And so, when you’re treated like that, you can’t help but feel, ‘I will have him notice me at all cost!’ such feelings come to you, don’t you agree?”
“Nope, even if you ask me to agree on that, it’s just plain bothersome actually…”
“It does! Or at least, I felt like that… And because of that, here we are now.”
With a self-deprecating smile as if blaming herself, I muttered “I guess so” in response.
“To take undue advantage of the feelings of my precious friend … I really, truly think I’ve become the worst.”
“Setting aside whether you’re the worst or not, well, I guess Katase must also think of you surely as an irreplaceable friend.”
“I wonder now… maybe she’s long since started to hate me already.”
“That can’t be true at all. Or else, she wouldn’t accept to be in a relationship with someone she doesn’t even know or like in the first place.”
“……….”
Hearing me say it so decisively, and Hiiragi looked at me with a puzzled expression.
…Ah, this is bad. The embarrassment of saying something which is so out of character is hitting me now.
The shame that’s just took too late to rise. If this continues, I can come to the point of becoming mute and leave for home without saying a word from here on out.
Perhaps, it seems my inner plea got through; Hiiragi laughs without a care.
“So that’s how it is playing in your mind, huh?”
