A Chance To Rewrite It All - Chapter 9- Workload
In the original timeline, today when Himiko confronted Ryuuske since he skipped school after lunch, they argued.
Ryuuske soon after, left the living room, and when Himiko went after him in a rush, she felt dizzy, and while faintly calling out to him for help, she fell down.
Ryuuske didn’t hear her call and went to his room
That whole night, Himiko remained unconscious on the floor, and when she returned to her senses, it was already morning. Ryuuske didn’t bother to check on her and left the house.
Yep, I had such a shit personality. I hate myself.
Fortunately, this time, I was around when she fainted and carried her to her room.
I called a doctor who doesn’t live far away. He checked her condition and said,
“She is overworked and has been spending a lot of her time in front of a screen. Although I can’t be sure without a thorough diagnosis, she seems to be suffering from a deficiency of iron and calcium. She might be suffering from insomnia and her bones might have turned weaker with time. First, get her diagnosed, then I will prescribe her diet and medicine, okay?”
I thankfully nodded before asking, “She isn’t in any immediate danger right? Should I get her admitted to hospital?” Even though I asked, I will be getting her thoroughly treated at a hospital as soon as I can.
Fujimoto-san chuckled, “It’s strange for you to be so concerned for her, but it makes me happy.” Patting my shoulder, he said, “You have grown up, Ryuuske.”
Turning his eyes toward Mom, he said, “There isn’t anything to be overly concerned about as of now, however, if she doesn’t change her daily routine and habits, then it might become concerning.”
After talking with the man for a few more minutes I sent him off before returning to the room.
Seeing her peaceful sleeping face I heaved a sigh and rested myself against the door frame.
I…was terrified. When she fell, I froze at my spot for a few seconds, unable to move. The worst things passed through my mind…and that feeling is not something I want to experience again.
*Bzz*
Feeling the phone vibrate, I took it out and saw it was from Yuna,
[Are you sleeping?]
I raised my brows, “It’s only ten. Are you sleeping?”
[No, I am finishing my homework. Want me to send it to you?]
Well, it’s not like high school subjects can be difficult, so I said, “Nope, got it covered. Had dinner?”
[Yes…]
The three extra dots had me concerned, so I asked, “Did something happen back at home?”
I faintly remember Yuna’s mother since she once confronted me in the previous timeline, saying that I had corrupted her daughter.
Well, she was apparently true. Her mother has a very bad temper and worries a lot for Yuna, which, as a parent, is the right thing to do. However, her blind trust in Sato makes me worry.
[Don’t worry about that. Tell me, did you eat something?]
“…well, no. But I am going to cook something and eat. So be a good girl and eat something as well, okay?”
Reading my text there was a slight pause before she said something unexpected,
[If I don’t eat anything until tomorrow, will you get worried.]
I frowned slightly, “Of course, I will be.”
There was another brief pause before she said,
[Thank you…it makes me happy.]
I stared at the screen for a good half a minute, imagining what face she might have right now when she said that.
…being loved by someone so much…I never thought I could ever experience this again.
I was about to send her another text when I saw Mom’s phone screen lighting up.
I picked it up and found there were several work-related texts. Three people, especially, were pestering her to finish work and adding more to it.
I knew her phone password so it didn’t take me time to read some of those messages, only to find myself frowning.
“Hmm…Ryuu?” Hearing her voice, I put down the phone and brought some water first.
“Here, drink some,” Helping her to sit on the bed I held the glass near her lips before she took some small sips and then shook her head.
As I rested the glass back on the bedside table, she asked,
“How long was I out?”
“Just an hour, “Saying so I laid her back down and said, “What do you want for dinner?”
“You are going to cook?” Her grogginess seemed to have disappeared when she asked me that.
“Yep, I am. I know a few recipes so don’t worry.”
“No…let’s order from the nearby restaurant. You will hurt yourself.”
I sighed, “I won’t, Mom. Just relax there, I will make something hot and spicy for us.”
Saying so, I took out my phone dialled her number and picked up my call from her phone.
“Call me if you feel weird, okay?” Resting the phone beside her, I walked out of the room.
What I missed to witness was those tears she shed after I left. However, those tears weren’t of grief.
In the kitchen, I went through the ingredients which were available and decided to make egg-fried rice with honey pepper chicken. Although the doctor said that she should eat more nutritious food, let’s take care of her diet from tomorrow.
I know how much she likes chicken so I didn’t think much before I began cooking.
As I fried the chicken, I opened the usual chatbox of my close friends, before texting them,
“Free tomorrow?”
[Aiiiiii~where are you these days? Heard you got into a fight?]
[Haha~a fight? He busted in and bashed the good kid. It was hilarious to watch XD]
These three are not like others. They actually are close and good friends with whom I generally hang out, and they belong to well-settled families. Among the four of us, I was probably the most problematic child.
After the vigour died down a little, I asked,
“Tomorrow, meet me near Kojima Park.”
[Heh~you sound serious? Is something the matter?]
[Might be that school guy?]
I chuckled. If I had to beat up Sato I wouldn’t have to ask them. But no, it’s not about him.
Tomorrow, I am so gonna beat the crap out of that man who played a major role in pushing my mother to her demise.
