Volume 11 Chapter 24 In the darkness
The individual’s consciousness was in darkness, a deep, dark abyss.
Not knowing which was up or down, lost in the darkness.
Warm and cold. Comforting yet suffocating.
In this mysterious space, Viness existed.
(I don’t want to think anymore. I don’t want to do anything…)
Since coming to this space, he had been shown memories from the past.
Faces of those who looked at him with strange eyes.
Even though it was so painful, so agonizing, no one understood.
There were a few who treated him without mockery, but they were all exceptional, and spending a long time with them was impossible.
He had to wear a mask.
To maintain sanity, he could only exaggerate and appear to be joking.
“it’s Painful… it hurts… its agonizing…”
His heart ached deeply.
Ku Ruu, the one responsible for making him feel this way, exploited his emotional wounds and had control over his being.
He wouldn’t let him think about going outside. For that reason, Ku Ruu kept reminding him of his bitter memories.
――――Withdraw further into your shell, rely on me more.
Viness, who was subjected to a powerful signal, was gradually being brainwashed.
However, even for him, there was one glimmer of hope.
“Help… me…”
This person was the first to accept him.
Strong, reliable, yet somewhat quirky… Viness loved him for who he was.
“Ruisha… brother…”
In a vacant consciousness, he called out that name.
But Ku Ruu was trying to blot out that memory.
“Stop… it…”
Memories being overwritten.
Struggling, Viness desperately reached out.
――――It’s futile. Entrust everything to me.
A horrific voice echoing in the mind.
However, Viness continues to reach out without succumbing to that voice.
“Hel…p…”
Fading consciousness.
The outstretched hand slowly lowers.
However, just before that hand lowers completely, it is firmly grasped.
“It’s okay. You’re safe now.”
Light pierces through the pitch-black world.
Due to the backlighting, the face of the person behind that voice is not visible. However, through the warmth and strength of the hand that grasps, Viness understands who that individual is.
“Brother Ruisha…”
“You did well, Viness. You’re safe now.”
Ruisha lifts up the exhausted Viness.
Having severed all of Ku Ruu’s legs with the power of the magic eye, Ruisha pinpoints Viness’s location. He cuts through the softened Ku Ruu’s torso and rescues Viness from within.
“Lie down. I’ll take you to the ship.”
“Yeah… thank you, Brother Ruisha.”
While carrying the exhausted Viness, Ruisha heads back to the ship.
◇ ◇ ◇
—On top of Ku Ruu’s head.
Cindy and Bat headed toward the motionless head of Ku Ruu.
There stood a human figure growing from Ku Ruu’s head… The lower half of the body had assimilated with Ku Ruu’s form. When the two approached, the human with eyes moving eerily from Ku Ruu’s head stared at them.
Bat didn’t recognize this individual, but Cindy remembered him well.
“…So it was indeed you. Truly beyond salvation,” Cindy said, a mix of astonishment and pity in her eyes.
“Hey, Cindy. Who is this guy?”
“This man’s name is Edward Drake. He’s a pirate.”
Edward Drake, known by the alias of a “man-eater,” had recently attacked Ruisha. That man was Drake.
Receiving Ku Ruu’s electromagnetic waves, he hid within the belly of the sea dragon and infiltrated the underwater island before Ruisha’s group, encountering Ku Ruu before them.
Cindy, with her animalistic instincts, had sensed Drake’s presence from Ku Ruu.
“Cindy… Are you going to interfere with me again…?”
Drake spoke resentfully while glaring at Cindy.
Having merged with the monster, he was no longer in his right mind. Influenced strongly by Ku Ruu’s anger and hatred, he had lost the ability for rational thought.
Driven by these impulses, Drake began his attack.
“I… I am the ruler of the sea!”
Drake, sprouting countless tentacles from his fleshy junctures.
It was the last remaining power within Ku Ruu’s body. Now, with all legs severed and even losing Viness, Ku Ruu couldn’t move his body properly.
However, there were two high-quality preys in front of him. One had skeletalized, but it would still produce essence. Ku Ruu gave battle orders to Drake.
“Die, Cindy! Surrender everything to me!”
A horde of approaching tentacles.
But Cindy remained composed.
“There’s nothing I’d give to a lame guy like you. Besides, we don’t need a ruler for the sea. The sea belongs to everyone living in it.”
Cindy drew her sabre and sliced through the approaching tentacles.
Then, she swiftly approached Drake.
“Fool, that’s my territory!”
More tentacles grew from the ground, assaulting Cindy.
But this time, a bat knocked those tentacles away.
“You say good things, Cindy. Truly my granddaughter.”
Cindy and Bat covered each other’s openings, dealing with the tentacles as they approached Drake. In the face of their synchronized coordination, Drake’s attacks were meaningless.
“How about this!”
Numerous tentacles emerged from the ground, surrounding the two.
However, Bat didn’t confront the tentacles but placed his palms on the ground.
“Waves – Ocean King’s Ripple!”
Gathering the power of rippling waves in his body, he unleashed the ocean technique ‘Waves’ from his hands.
As the Pirate King, Bat had mastered this technique, naturally.
The vibrations he released shook the ground, shaking Ku Ruu’s head violently, causing its cells to decay. Naturally, the movement of the tentacles slowed, and the attacks came to a halt.
Seizing this opportunity, Cindy immediately minced the approaching tentacles.
“Cindy, let’s do this together!”
“…Yeah!”
With their sabres ready, the two reached Drake simultaneously.
Drake desperately fought back with the tentacles, but due to the effects of the Ocean King’s Ripple, the movement of the tentacles was sluggish.
“Don’t mess around! I’m a man who will become the Pirate King!”
“You’re not worthy. That title belongs to the world’s coolest man.”
Cindy and Bat simultaneously slashed Drake.
Drake, with his torso cut into an ‘X’ shape, crumbled on the spot, and his body melted away.
“…He truly was a pitiful man.”
In the end, murmuring these words, Cindy returned to the ship.

Volume 11 Chapter 25 At the end of the long war
“Satan’s Radiant Magic Flash!”
A golden light emitted from Ruisha’s hand, enveloping Ku Ruu’s body.
Within that light lay the power to disintegrate all ‘magic.’ Ku Ruu, who had already lost most of his magical power, had no means to resist, and his body crumbled into pieces.
“Lu… ah…”
Gazing at the figures of those who had defeated him, Ku Ruu vanished completely.
Upon confirming this, the onlookers erupted in cheers.
Especially loud were the voices of Bat’s subordinates. They had been battling for centuries, and finally, it was coming to an end.
“Captain, over there.”
“Yeah. They’re going home too, it seems.”
In the direction indicated by Wolf, numerous ships began to sink.
These were the ships from the past that had come to assist in Ku Ruu’s battle. The skeletons saluting on the sinking ships seemed somehow content.
Watching this, Bat mumbled happily.
“Hey, it was fun, you guys. Let’s have another brawl over there.”
Now that they had defeated Ku Ruu and restored peace to the sea, Bat and his crew had no regrets. The time of parting was approaching.
“But before that, there’s something we gotta do.”
With a grin, Bat signaled this, and they began their preparations.
◇ ◇ ◇
“Well then, to the subjugation of that monster Ku Ruu! And to celebrate the meeting of our Captain, Captain Bat, and his granddaughter Cindiana!”
“To the celebration!”
Under the command of the crew member Marcus, the pirates clinked their glasses enthusiastically.
Having successfully defeated Ku Ruu, Ruisha and the others were holding a celebration on the ship. The ships, GlowBlue and Black Elizabeth, were docked side by side, allowing free movement between the two.
“Can your ancestors drink? Even though they’re just bones.”
“Hahaha! This is all about spirit!”
With his adorable great-granddaughter by his side, Bat joyfully sipped his drink. As a skeleton, he had no organs. Normally, it should spill, but somehow he could drink without any issues.
“Hey, Ruisha! Are you drinking properly?”
At a large table placed on the deck of the Black Elizabeth, Bat spoke to Ruisha who was seated across from him. Ruisha, looking exhausted, responded.
“Yes, I’m enjoying it.”
Saying so, Ruisha sipped the alcohol bit by bit. Due to the recoil from his Demon Dragon mode, his body felt heavy, but he managed to join the feast. Sharo and Iris sat on either side of him, taking care of him attentively.
“Come on, Ru, this is delicious, so have some. Or should I feed you?”
“No, Ruisha-sama, perhaps it would be better if you partook of this dish. Oh, you seem a bit fatigued; shall we retire to the room together?”
“Why are you nonchalantly trying to take him away!”
“W-Well… you two can do as you please…”
Amidst the lively atmosphere, they bantered and enjoyed themselves. It was hard to believe that just a few hours ago, they were engaged in a life-and-death battle; they were now all smiles.
At that moment, a certain person appeared before them.
“Ruisha, Iris…”
It was Viness who appeared.
He had been weakened by forcibly having his power drained by Ku Ruu, and had been sleeping in his room until now.
Seeing Viness, Ruisha and Iris stood up and ran towards him.
“Viness, you’ve awakened!”
“We were worried.”
Seeing the two of them running towards him with joy, Viness wore an apologetic expression and lowered his head.
“…I’m sorry. I caused trouble for everyone.”
Seeing this, Ruisha and Iris looked at each other and nodded.
Iris grabbed Viness’s shoulder and lifted his lowered head. Then, looking at Viness who was frowning in self-disappointment, she spoke.
“I should be the one apologizing. I should have noticed your pain sooner. I’m sorry, I haven’t been a good sister.”
“…! That’s not true! Iris, you’re not at fault! It’s because I was weak!”
Viness desperately defended Iris. Watching their interaction up close, Ruisha went to them and took both of their hands.
“No one here is looking to blame anyone. So let’s forgive each other. There’s no longer a presence to torment Viness. If there’s regret, let’s start anew from today.”
At Ruisha’s words, both of them nodded.
The past cannot be undone, but the future that lies ahead can be changed.
“Iris, there are so many things I want to talk to you about.”
“Yes, I’m here to listen to whatever you have to say.”
They smiled at each other.
No matter what lies ahead, they will remain close. Ruisha was certain of that.
