Part 1
It was mid-April and the warm, morning sunlight shone through the classroom window. My classmates were all happily chatting away in a clamour of ooh and ahhh.
“Himari-chan, did you see that comedy show yesterday?”
“Hey, Himari-chan! Let’s go to karaoke today.”
“Himari-tan is as cute as ever.”
All this was happening two seats in front of mine, the backmost seat by the window.
The crowd consisted of handsome guys, gal girls, 2D-dimensional nerds, and so on and so forth. All of the students were calling out the same name, the name of the beautiful girl in the center of the circle the students had unwittingly created.
“Mo~o, calm down everyone. I can’t answer you all at once. I only have two cute ears after all.”
The beautiful girl spoke in her playfully adorable voice, the surrounding students bursting into peels of laughter in response.
Tenshin Himari. This was the name of the beautiful girl who had been talking to a group consisting of 80 percent of our classmates for some time now.
She sported lightly permed hair tied together into a ponytail.
Her face was pretty, such that it stood out from the rest of the JK, and her breasts were moderately sized as well. (TN: JK = Joshi Kosei, Female High School Students)
She was wearing a short skirt that would just almost show her underwear, but never actually managed to.
As for her height, she was just shy of the average height of a highschool girl.
It was everything a typical highschool boy could ask for in an ideal girlfriend.
On top of that, her communication skills were very high and friendly, and she knew a lot about make-up and dress-up.
It was for these reasons that she was so popular with both the boys and girls at school. She was in every sense of the phrase, a true school idol— a title the students had already taken to calling her.
”As always, Tenshin is so cute today.”
I looked on from my back-of-the-room seat by the window, observing Tenshin throughout the various conversations. She truly was an angel.
I’m going to make it clear— I love Tenshin. I’m completely in love with her. She’s the first and only girl I’ve loved in all my sixteen years of life.
Unfortunately, you could imagine how tough the competition would be given that she’s the school idol.
Her academic ability and athletic skills are on par with mine, but I have to admit that it’s tough to ask her out since I’m an average guy (I’d like to think) who’s not handsome enough to go out with her.
“Haa~ (sigh). How can I get along with Tenshin?”
I let out a sigh as I looked at the sky through the window, the sound of my voice just quiet enough to not be heard by those around me.
I started to fall in love with Tenshin about a year ago.
To tell you the truth, when she first started school, Tenshin wasn’t quite as cute as she was now. She was a rather plain girl that wore glasses and tied her plain black hair up in a bun.
But it was when she was like this that I fell in love with Tenshin.
It happened just a few days upon entering high school.
I had finished cleaning up after school and all of my friends had already gone home for cram school or had gone on date nights with their girlfriends. I was walking out of the elevator and about to go home, but realized that it was raining heavily outside.
Unfortunately, I hadn’t brought an umbrella with me that day, so I had no choice but to wait in front of the entrance until the rain passed by.
“You can take this if you want.”
I was suddenly approached by someone from behind. I turned around and saw a dark-haired, slightly plain schoolgirl with glasses.
She was a little plain, but she was holding out a folding umbrella to me as if knowing that I didn’t have an umbrella. It was quite a cute umbrella, one with polka dots.
“E-eh, but ……”
“I have another umbrella. Don’t worry about it.”
She pointed toward the flowery umbrella in her other hand before holding out the folding umbrella toward me again.
“I-I understand. Then, I’ll take you up on your offer.”
I gratefully accepted the umbrella and thanked her.
“Well, thank you.”
“Hn. You’re welcome.”
The female student suddenly smiled back at me.
‘’Thump!”
A moment later, I felt my heart beating faster.
“Well, I’ll take my leave then.”
When she said that, the female student held up her umbrella and turned to leave.
I wasn’t going to let her–
“W-wait a minute.”
I found myself calling out to her for no reason.
Hearing me, the schoolgirl slowly turned her body toward me.
“Would you mind telling me your name?”
She looked a little surprised at my sudden question, but then she relaxed, her lips curling up into a small smile.
‘’Tenshin Himari. That’s my name.”
After revealing her name, she disappeared into the rain with a quiet stride.
”Tenshin Himari.”
I was stunned in place, staring at her back as it faded from view.
I was locked in place, stunned by her smile. It was so cute, coupled with the gap between her appearance.
Her personality was warm, prompting her to go out of her way to lend a dull stranger like me her umbrella. I found myself instantly attracted to everything about her.
So on that particular day, I fell in love for the first time in my life, and I fell in love with a girl named Tenshin Himari.
“I fell in love with her…”
I let out a big sigh as I plopped down on my desk.
To my surprise, I found out that Tenshin was my classmate the following day.
This must have been God’s way of making my love come true.
I decided to approach Tenshin as soon as possible.
In order to become friends with Tenshin, I approached her during recess so that she wouldn’t think I was a bother, and once we got to know each other, we would spend time together after school once a week in the guise of a group study.
I even boldly asked her out on a date a few times, but miraculously I was never rejected — Tenshin really is such a kind girl.
I continued that desperate approach for several months.
Then, Tenshin changed her look for some reason, but even so my feelings didn’t change at all.
In mid-October of my first year of high school, I confessed to Tenshin for the first time.
The result: I didn’t get a reply.
My confession didn’t even reach her.
The moment I tried to confess to Tenshin on the rooftop, a rain of women’s underwear came pouring down. Women’s panties.
Ichigo pattern, lace, string back, etc. A variety of panties fluttered down from the sky, ruining the atmosphere. The whole school went into an uproar, and naturally, my confession failed.
No, I’m not joking. I’m being completely serious.
This is how the first confession I had ever attempted in my life ended without my feelings ever even reaching the other party.
Incidentally, the large number of panties mysteriously disappeared a few minutes later. Sure I was surprised at first, but I tried not to care too much about what happened.
And then one month after my first confession…
