- Chapter 6: It's Crazy How a Single Girl Can Make a Bunch of Tough Guys Whimper with Her Pointy Black Rods
“Fire!!”
Upon a man’s command, an armed group appeared inside the bank, pointing their guns at Hiroki and Shiori.
It seemed that the unfolding events would be a mix of gunfire and screams.
But then…
“What!?” “What is this!?” “What’s happening!?”
These exclamations emanated from the men who, moments earlier, had been poised to pull their triggers. Now, their bodies were immobilized by a sudden appearance of numerous spikes.
The spikes, measuring over two meters in length and as thick as arms, instantly rendered the entire armed group powerless.
“You may already be aware, but allow me to introduce myself: I am Shiori Himeji, a first-year combat studies student.”
Amidst the struggling armed group, Shiori began her calm introduction.
“You must know that your organization planned to attack this bank, but if my arrival was also part of the plan, it means there’s a mole, doesn’t it?”
She explained the situation calmly.
“Why! If everything had gone as planned, you would’ve been…”
“ndeed, your plan was to capture me for use as a deterrent against the government, police, self-defense forces, and combat school teachers. Capturing someone strong like me would indeed make it difficult for them to attack.”
Shiori had seen through the enemy’s intentions.
“You knew our plan and acted on it. But why did it fail? What do you think the reason could be?”
“Impossible! Are you saying our plan was wrong? That we were following fake information?”
“No, our plan was indeed the same as the one you had.”
“Then why!?”
The enemies were shouting at Shiori, bewildered. They had the plan, predicted the enemy’s moves, and yet were foiled. They glared at and screamed at Shiori.
“That is… No, never mind. Explaining it to you is a waste of time. Let’s finish this quickly.”
Shiori was about to answer the enemies’ questions but stopped when she saw Hiroki, who was restraining another power user.
His eyes conveyed a message: end this situation quickly.
Shiori thought to herself,.
(He’s so impatient.)
Then, holding a walkie-talkie to her mouth, she commanded,
“Do it.”
“Yes!” came the reply from two voices over the walkie-talkie.
Suddenly, a distortion appeared above them, followed by,
“Gaaahh!!!”
An immense gravitational force almost crushed the captives. The men, immobilized by the spikes, were pressed into the stems, losing consciousness one after another.
“What awaits you next is a prison cell. Goodbye.”
Watching their end, Shiori murmured their fate and closed her eyes.
After everything was settled, Shiori looked back at where Hiroki had been, but he was nowhere to be found.
“Where did he go!?”
It was Shiori’s turn to be surprised.
While she was confronting them, Hiroki had taken the chance to escape. The only one left was a man who could turn invisible, now unconscious.
In a flurry, Shiori gave orders to her subordinates.
“Report this incident to the combat school! Inform them about the mole and him!”
“Yes!”
They responded and immediately communicated via walkie-talkie.
As Shiori’s team, waiting outside, started to enter the bank, she should have been catching her breath, yet her heart continued to pound heavily.
(Who is he! Why did he disappear! I want to know! Who is he really!)
Within Shiori, her interest in and assessment of Hiroki were rapidly increasing.
(I escaped! I escaped! I totally got away!)
Along a pedestrian path at the edge of a two-lane road amidst high-rise buildings, a man continued to run. It’s Hiroki.
(What was that all about! Suddenly, there’s a group with guns, then black spikes shoot out of the ground, and next thing I know, the group is screaming as they’re impaled by the spikes. I just don’t understand!!)
Hiroki is overwhelmed by confusion and fear as he recalls the recent events.
(That woman was having some incomprehensible conversation with the group, and then suddenly, she and part of the group looked right at me!)
(I’m not involved!!) At that moment, Hiroki shouted in his mind!
All he wanted was to disappear from that place as quickly as possible.
It seemed that his feelings were somehow understood when she said, “Let’s finish this.”
Then, the group let out screams as if they were in hell.
(How do my feelings relate to their screams?) Hiroki wondered at that moment.
Somehow, amidst the echoing screams, Hiroki managed to escape. In his panic, he didn’t use the main door but fled through a nearby window.
Thus, he evaded the organization monitoring the bank’s door and disappeared without a trace.
(For now, let’s just go home. Forget everything about today and think about what comes next.)
Hiroki touched the lottery ticket hidden in his inner jacket pocket, contemplating his next steps.
(Next, I’ll try a different bank. As long as I can receive the whole amount in cash right there, any bank will do.)
Once home, he would search for another bank. Despite the recent turmoil, his mind was preoccupied with money.
(Once I have the cash, what should I purchase? No, first, I need to acquire a safe. Then, I can shop without anyone discovering it.)
Hiroki envisioned a bright future ahead of him.
Yet, Hiroki was unaware that his involvement in this incident would soon cause his information to create trouble in various places.
