Chapter 74: Summer Festival Date Part 3
“Now!”
The cork bullet that I flicked with my finger hit the “king” piece just like a real bullet, right in the lower right corner.
The piece burst with the impact, it flew away spinning until it hit the wall behind.
Then, the cork bullet, still having enough momentum, bounced around inside the stall a few times, then landed on Kashiwagi-san’s chest weakly.
I couldn’t help but feel envious of the cork bullet.
“…”
The shopkeeper stared in disbelief at the fallen shogi piece.
“I did it! I knocked it down! That means I get a prize, right?”
Looking at me innocently rejoicing, the shopkeeper let out a sigh.
“You didn’t knock it down, you hit it and sent it flying… The stall shook, you know? What kind of stupid strength do you have?”
The shopkeeper looked defeated as he handed me a teddy bear.
“I did it, Kashiwagi-san! We got a teddy bear!”
“Oi, Yamamoto. Your bullet hit me too, you know?”
“S-Sorry! But, it didn’t have much force, and it didn’t hurt much, right?”
“It’s not that, just that you won… not only the bear but also me… but well, forget it!”
Kashiwagi-san then blushed and cleared her throat.
“Congratulations, you got the teddy bear. You can give it to Lilia and become even better friends with her now.”
“What are you talking about? I got it for you, Kashiwagi. So take it!”
I then handed the teddy bear to Kashiwagi.
“Is it okay?”
“It’s fine. I have a lot of other souvenirs to give Lilia anyway. Besides, this teddy bear doesn’t really fit the summer festival theme, does it?”
“Oh, I see… Uh, Yamamoto. You probably didn’t notice, but I actually really wanted this one.”
“Eh, really? I had no idea!!”
I pretended to be fooled to save Kashiwagi’s face which was now red.
She was blushing, and I was sure that for Kashiwagi-san, it was a confession out of embarrassment.
“Anyway, thank you.”
“You’re welcome!”
I wondered if I had repaid Kashiwagi’s kindness to me, even if only a little.
“Fufufu… you’re really fluffy, aren’t you? Come here, you!”
Seeing Kashiwagi rubbing her cheek against the teddy bear happily, I realized what a foolish question I had asked.
