With great powers, comes a great harem! - Chapter 84- Stubborn?
“…there is no point in arguing, Shio. It’s impossible for me to take you there.”
“Because I am weak?! At the very least I can throw myself in front of danger and protect you, Yuki-kun. Not as a support but as a meat shield, please take me with you!”
This might be the first time for Maya to hear Shio speaking in such a loud and persistent manner to Yuki.
Tomorrow was the day when Maya and Yuki would be attending the celebration of Christmas at the Kurokawa mansion. For the Kurokawa clan to host the celebration and volunteer for the management of the yearly meeting was no surprise. However, this was the first time Maya would join the event not with her parents but with her lord.
However, the reason for concern was Amaye and Shio’s safety while Maya and Yuki would be away.
Maya’s teleportation wouldn’t allow them to return to the Tower from Tokyo. The magic restriction devices prevent any kind of Gate or Portal. Advanced technology is not something a magician could surpass unless they overpower them with brute force.
As such, it was a bit concerning to let Amaye and Shio alone. However, Kazuya assured Yuki that within the tower nothing would happen to Yuki’s loved ones. It was a kind of compensation he extended.
Although Amaye agreed to stay back and finish her training as a barista, Shio was hell-bent on coming along.
“Meat shield? Shio, you very well know that I would never let you or Maya get in the way of danger, regardless of the situation. Why don’t you practice your newfound magic meanwhile?”
“But Yuki-kun, I want to-”
“Shio.” Realizing that the matter was slipping from her lord’s hand, Maya stepped forward and called out for the brown-haired.
Shio was startled by Maya’s voice but the stubbornness in her eyes never disappeared.
“If a situation, just like what happened back in the mall, occurs again…my family will definitely protect me and Yuki-sama is strong enough to defend himself. However, what about you?”
Shio gulped in nervousness as she felt that cold water had been poured over her head.
She never thought about what Maya just uttered.
Indeed, if some danger arrives, Yuki has the strength to defend himself…however, he would be hindered if he had to protect Shio as well.
However, even though she knew it was rational to accept Maya’s suggestion and stay back, a major part of her thoughts was still occupied with being there with Yuki when he would be facing his parents and old relatives.
She wanted to be with him and share his burden when Yuki would have to face those selfish creatures, who abandoned him in the past.
And these thoughts prevented her from accepting the reality.
With her fist balled and tears welled up in her eyes, she glared at Yuki and shouted,
“I am not a burden!” With that, she stomped her foot and dashed away.
Yuki was flustered but quick to respond. However, before he could step forward and follow Shio outside, Maya objected,
“Yuki-sama, please leave this to me. Knowing her, I am sure she would be able to convince you to take her. I may sound rude but Yuki-sama becomes quite soft when it’s about us two.”
Yuki’s emotions shifted from surprise to embarrassment as he couldn’t find any word to refute her statement.
In the end, he nodded to her and said, “Alright then, please take care of her in my stead, Maya.”
Maya extended a soft smile before she bowed and walked out of the room elegantly.
Left in the room, Yuki heaved a sigh before plopping on the bed.
His mind has been occupied a lot these days with all the training and planning. In his free time, he trains Shio or spends time with Amaye.
“How my life changed in these few weeks…” A month and a half ago Yuki was just a useless guy with a useless skill. He couldn’t do work because of his school and always burdened his sister. Shio always had to look after him and Yuki lived a life of misery, guilt, and pain.
‘But everything changed because of that fairy…’ Remembering the incident that occurred back then, Yuki couldn’t help chuckling.
Fortunately, not even Kazuya has been able to take a glimpse of those memories, even while training, Yuki leaves his vulnerable mind to be attacked by the professor.
“Come to think of it…I never found the origin of that Goddess…”
Yuki has tried looking for any kind of mythological book or information on the angel who blessed him that day. However, he found nothing. And not only that, although he prayed a lot, that goddess never appeared in his dreams.
‘Quite strange…’
It might be the first time Yuki thought about that incident so deeply however, recently he has been feeling a little off these days. Those memories…why no one can see it? And why is it that Yuki couldn’t reconnect with the goddess?
It may have sounded nonsensical and insignificant since Yuki still retains those skills that the goddess provided him with…however, very soon, he would realize something very crucial about that particular incident that occurred to him.
Yuki was so thankful and believed in that incident that considering that occurrence to be a part of his imagination, never crossed his mind.
The time for many secrets to unravel was nearing.

Around ten, just an hour after Maya and Shio left, they walked back in with a harmonious environment around the two.
Well, Maya was indifferent and expressionless as ever. However, the way Shio was grinning ear to ear helped Yuki to sigh in relief.
“Yuki-kun? Are you preparing the dinner? Shouldn’t we have ordered it?”
Yuki, who was left alone, tried to utilize his time. He first considered training his mental interference magic but realizing how much he have been tiring himself these days, he chose something more productive and relaxing.
“Well, Nee-san said that cooking is the best way of relaxation…so here I am,” Yuki said as he moved the spatula and slowly fried the scallops.
Maya walked toward him before she helped him prepare the rest of the dishes. Shio cleaned the table and within a few minutes, the group of three were sitting around the foldable table with several dishes served.
“The food is extremely flavorful and perfectly cooked. I love it!” Shio’s expressive way of praising him left Yuki in embarrassment.
“…it’s delicious.” Even Maya complimented his food, with her eyes sparkling with joy.
“Thanks. Now, eat to your heart’s content.”
While they were eating and conversing, Shio suddenly brought up the topic from earlier,
“I will stay back, Yuki-kun. Sorry for pestering you.”
Yuki was taken aback a little, as he glanced at Maya first.
“I…am glad that you understo-” However, before he could respond, Shio intervened,
“However, in return, I want you to do something for us.”
Gazing at Shio’s mischievous smile and the shy expression Maya wore, Yuki felt suspicious.
That night he witnessed a new side of his lovers.
