Since Shio has gained a new skill and wanted to practice it as soon as possible she didn’t stay at her parents’ place for two days, unlike what she planned.
They returned the very next day and Shio began her training under Maya’s guidance.
Since the school was almost empty because of the vacation, Amaye was allowed to leave by afternoon as such she was spending most of her time with Yuki and the others.
Now currently, Maya and Yuki have visited Kazuya for the latter’s training. The reason why Maya accompanied him remained a mystery.
———————-
[Yuki’s POV:]
I couldn’t visually see anything as I remained standing in the middle of the room with my eyes closed.
Mana was something I perceived in the form of a liquid that runs in a human body. Based on my imagination, I let my body release the liquid around me as far as I could keeping it well balanced. If one side becomes denser than the other, this spell will lose its motive.
In my current state, I could only cover fifty meters of area with me as the center. The mana spreads evenly and notifies me of the existence of two strong presences nearby.
Those two people have different mana signatures. The left one had more green and blue surrounding its body and the right one was mostly red in comparison. I could easily tell them apart from a crowd now that I have remembered their mana signature.
‘Now let’s see…’ With my eyes still closed I slowly lifted my left hand while keeping the left person set as my target.
‘Blank.’ A simple barrier that could protect one from a certain range of physical and magical attacks, began to surround my target.
The chanting of any barrier was not as simple as it seemed since I had to determine the size, location, and speed of invocation to summon a perfect barrier. Sometimes my target could be a small pencil and sometimes a huge building. The necessity to provide mana and the ability to sustain the barrier as long as I desire…all these calculations are done by my conscious mind.
‘Perfect!’ The barrier was chanted as I heard someone applauding from nearby.
Opening my eyes I found Professor Kazuya was the one clapping while standing inside the barrier while Maya smiled at me with a sense of pride shining in her eyes.
“Marvelous. Not only did you overcome your overreliance on the visual image but also the detection magic left very little residue. The barrier chant was done perfectly as well. Overall, the skill set you just showed could be rated seven out of ten.”
Maya glared at Professor Kazuya…probably because he didn’t give me ten out of ten. But in my opinion, receiving such grades from Kazuya was no small feat either.
“I am honored to receive your praises, Professor. ” I bowed to the man after releasing my spell. Lifting my head I found Maya standing beside me with her hands holding a dry towel.
I thanked her with a smile before taking the towel.
Maybe it was because it was held by Maya, there was a very calming fluorescent smell in the towel which helped me release the accumulated stress.
“You did great, Yuki-sama.”
After wiping my sweat in the towel, I looked at her with a toothy smile and said, “It’s all thanks to your training.”
Maya has been helping me with detection magic for the past two days. The efficiency in performing this skill was the key to becoming better at this. Even though I have mana in abundance I couldn’t just uselessly release it and hope to perform a spell out of it.
“It’s all your hard work…so, I will say again. Good job.” Seeing her unusually cheerful expression and her determination to praise me, I yielded.
“*Cough* So…are you two done flirting?”
Maya narrowed her eyes again. Ahh…I don’t think that’s a good thing to do Maya.
“Karuizawa-kun…aren’t you a little rude to your sensei?”
The middle-aged man didn’t look serious as he shook his head in defeat while pouring something from the teapot.
As Sensei put down the cup in front of me and Maya, she took the cup that was offered to me before taking a light sip.
This action greatly surprised me but looking at Kazuya-sensei, it seemed he knew what she was doing.
Maya soon nodded to herself in an adorable manner before handing me the cup.
Confused, I looked at the older one before he voiced what just happened, “She was testing whether I poisoned you.”
I raised my brows in surprise before turning my head toward the girl, “For real?”
She looked embarrassed but never denied it.
“I assume, it is because Karuizawa-kun thinks that the person who mentally assaulted you, Yuki-kun, is someone I am protecting.”
“…isn’t it the truth?” Maya’s muttering helped me realize that she indeed expected that Professor Kazuya might have poisoned me.
I heaved a sigh before placing my hand over Maya’s.
“There are people in this tower who aren’t under Professor Kazuya’s administration despite them being students. As such, it was understandable why he couldn’t do anything about this matter directly.”
Although I, as well, was agitated at that person who attacked me that day, I knew, nothing good would result upon cornering Kazuya.
Keeping his authority in the tower aside, he was an S-rank on an individual level. Mastery of Mental Interference Magic is one of the feats he has achieved in less than forty years of age.
My words seemed to have pacified her, but I knew, she wasn’t convinced.
Holding her hand, I extended an apologetic gaze at the older one.
Professor shook his head, indicating that he was not bothered by Maya’s revolting attitude.
“Yuki-kun, more than training I invited you here for something else.”
As I placed the cup back in the saucer, I heard him saying.
Professor Kazuya had a profoundly serious expression on his face as he continued, “It’s about the event this weekend.”
This weekend was Christmas and also the event, for which I have been preparing for.
I couldn’t help but frown at that, before asking, “Is there something that the Professor knows?”
I knew this weekend, something massive was about to happen. My inclusion in the four major clans. For the patriarch of the Kurokawa clan to announce me as the leading heir. Also, the fact that the annulment of engagement between me and Maya was no longer valid would raise many questions and objections from those who desired to ally with the Karuizawa clan.
Those who have already gotten the air of what is to come have must prepared something against me.
That’s why when the Professor raised the topic of the event, I felt that he must have some idea about what I should be expecting.
“The renowned Willson family would be participating as well. And there are rumors that they were preparing to have their son get engaged to Karuizawa-kun this year. I am not sure if Patriarch Karuizawa had agreed to it or not, but once the head of the Willson family sees Karuizawa-kun together with the boy who has royally thrashed their treasured son…things might go awry. So be careful.”
(A/N:- Treaured son= Ryan Willson)
Maya’s expression didn’t much change, signifying that she must have some knowledge of it but she probably didn’t find it worth telling me.
Considering Maya’s individual talent and her position in the Karuizawa clan, it was given that there would be many suitors waiting in line.
However, the most problematic one would be the business giant, the Willson family.
Regardless of my worries, I didn’t make Kazuya-sensei troubled much and responded not so long after,
“Thank you for the warning. I will be careful.”
