- Chapter 33- True strength of the failure~3!
Yuki was aware that Kuroi was strong. She was ranked fourth based on her intelligence and magical prowess.
He very well knew that even if he used his elemental magic which was the same as Kuroi’s, he still wouldn’t be able to win. After all, he was a beginner level and Kuroi must have mastered most of the spells that fall under the spectrum of B-rank.
He knew he had to play using his brain and limbs. He accepts that he was caught in her first attack given that he didn’t have full knowledge of her skillset but the next spell she conjured after falsely announcing the name of another spell, Yuki deliberately walked into her trap.
‘Wall of Infinity.’ A technique that temporarily creates a space around Yuki and separates him from reality. Under this barrier spell, he wouldn’t be tangible to any physical element or form. He would be like a phantom phasing through materials.
And when the Blanket of Flames Kuroi dropped over him, Yuki adopted the Infinity to allow the AOE attack to pass through him.
“What the actual fuck…” Kuroi’s eyes widened witnessing her attack failing to enshroud her enemy. She accepts that the blanket of nothing but amber would have hurt unbearably but she wanted her rival to give up on this round as soon as possible.
But things didn’t go as she planned…
‘I need to close the distance… ‘ Deciding the course of his action, Yuki left the burning region and advanced toward the girl.
Kuroi seemed to have sensed his intention as she suddenly swung her hand in a small arc, creating a wall of flame to make Yuki stop, but since he still had his infinity around, Yuki just simply phased through it and conjured a single-layered barrier over his right-hand forearm with which he struck Kuroi hard.
*TING*
“Ahkk!” Kuroi exclaimed being caught off guard before she found her body being thrown a couple of meters away. She didn’t perceive the capability of Yuki’s technique which resulted in her fall.
But she was far from defeated as she brought a hold to the momentum of her body by doing a backflip and getting a grip on her bearings.
With a smirk, she looked at her opponent before throwing a genuine compliment, “You caught me off guard, I give you that. But…”As her words escaped her throat, she began to conjure several lances of flames hanging above her head and its tips pointing in Yuki’s direction.
Yuki, who no longer was able to sustain the Infinity, found his breathing slightly ragged but he faced his opponent without daring to relax his muscles even for a moment.
Kuroi sensed the mana surrounding Yuki dispelling which widened her grin even more before she concluded her words, “…you can’t win just from a single strike.”
Her words weren’t the source of Yuki’s concern as he suddenly found more than eight lances darting in his direction at a speed that sent a chill down his spine.
Due to the streamlined structure of the materialized weapons, their flow across the air was terrifying.
Yuki didn’t have the time to conjure his barriers since unlike the time when he was fighting Kaede, at the moment he only had more than three seconds worth of window, and that much efficiency of casting a barrier wasn’t in his reach.
“Hupp!” With a loud exhale, Yuki leaped backward and did a summersault to dodge the incoming elemental lance. The place where the said attack struck, was scorched after a small explosion.
It wouldn’t kill him but surely would injure him badly to the point of surrendering with just a single hit.
Yuki didn’t bother thinking about ‘what if’ and tilted his body to the right the very moment he found the lance nearing his face. Meanwhile, he was also conjuring his barrier while maintaining a decent distance from Kuroi.
“How long will you keep on dodging? I can do this the whole day you know~” Kuroi chimed in to provoke Yuki and make him stagger in his steps but the person who had been targetted with scorn his whole life, this much was nothing to make him distracted.
Dodging, jumping, leaping, and dashing went on a loop as Yuki didn’t allow a single lance to hit him. He was slowly yet surely getting a hang of the trajectories and his perception was sharpening with time as well.
Only a few minutes passed but Yuki was able to see, the pattern of each strike. The lances weren’t sentinel beings to charge at him randomly. At the end of the day, it was a young girl in her teenage controlling everything with the limited amount of her intelligence.
“JUST HIT HIM ALREADY!” Kuroi had lost her cool as she yelled furiously. Suddenly a burst of mana reverberated in the arena before all the lances began to burn even more fiercely and their number multiplied as well.
‘Shit!’ Just a single moment of pause and Yuki found himself surrounded by more than three dozen flaming lances around him, targeting him from every possible angle, leaving no room for hope at all.
If he wanted to surrender then this moment but he didn’t, resulting in Kuroi’s command, “CHARGE!”
Maya’s expression contoured greatly as she clenched her fist over her knees watching all the lances charging at Yuki at once.
**BOOOOOM**
Like numerous heavy firecrackers have been launched at the same spot at the same time, a massive explosion resounded across the hall.
The audience gasped and the instructor frowned at the brutality. The fact that the protection gear hadn’t activated meant that the attack wouldn’t kill Yuki but still, the barrage of assault Kuroi launched at once was surely going to leave her opponent near his death door.
‘I need to prepare a stretcher… ‘ Just as the instructor was about to go down to the arena, her eyes suddenly widened in astonishment.
Not only hers but every single person was gobsmacked seeing Yuki rising from the smoke with his body barely holding itself on his feet. His clothes were mostly burnt with a single piece of fabric attached to his lower half. Majorly each part of his body was charred with scorched marks left behind.
The burnt marks were so severe that one of the students even vomited on the spot but no one paid attention to her.
Kuroi’s eyes couldn’t have been any more wide open than it was at the moment. However, before she could express her confusion and annoyance, she found Yuki’s lips stretching, and from behind the hides of his bangs, his cold eyes laughing at her.
Before she could have made meaning out of his mockery, she felt something approaching…
“Shit!!!” Her feet didn’t even move half an inch toward her side before a heavy wall dropped over her, pressing Kuroi flat on the ground.
The force was heavy enough to form cracks in the ground under the arena mat. Kuroi had no chance to cast a single spell as she heard her bones creaking. Her nasal passages were blocked by the force, forbidding her from respiring.
She wasn’t even able to groan before her consciousness slipped away with her eyes turning white.
At that moment, the battle finally came to a conclusion.
“That would be enough!” Suddenly the barrier Yuki was applying to knock his opponent out, dispelled as the instructor appeared in the arena.
She glanced at Yuki for a moment with a suggestive look, before she declared the results, “Seventh-round winner is Yuki Shirazawa. ”
Yuki couldn’t help but smile at the announcement but his smile soon faded as he found himself falling backward and his world darkening.
‘Crap…couldn’t even enjoy my first vic… ‘
At that moment, Yuki didn’t know, how many people had their eyes on this match. And now that he has won…
