With great powers, comes a great harem! - Chapter 15- He would live!
[Yuki’s POV: ]
My skill [Barrier] is not just a simple protective shield that could protect me from my physical aspect but also from the molecular level of threat to any soul-related attacks could also be negated.
I can cast a barrier on specific signatures considering a person. This means, if I don’t want a single entity from entering a certain place then I would just keep their mana presence in mind while casting the Barrier. Just like now.
I have already noted the mana presence of Rurika Kaede through my heightened perception and now I just chanted a Barrier which not only would restrict any physical or mental element from striking me but since it was Kaede’s exclusive prohibited barrier, the counter effect would be ten folds.
It took almost a thousand units of my mana to cast this barrier and boost it up but since my mana grows continuously, it wasn’t a factor to get concerned about.
‘I hope this works…’ If my barrier fails, Kaede would kill me through that same strike so I didn’t hold back in creating my shield.
This was my only chance and I am giving it my all.
“Ready?”
I nodded before she readied her single-edged slim sword which she generally carries around. She took the long point stance with her cold eyes trained at me alone.
I inhaled deeply with my back already drenched with sweat and just after my next blink the ground trembled as Kaede shot off from her spot, leaving a slight crack at her initial position as she darted in my direction at a tremendous pace.
The light green three-layered Barrier was conjured in front of me as I constantly supplied mana to it. Beads of sweat never halted nor did my hasten heartbeat as I faced her.
**CRACK**
“Guhhh!!!” A groan erupted from my throat as I felt the impact of her sword and made three more layers of the barrier since the initial three dispelled the very moment her attack connected.
Kaede’s sword was still penetrating through my barriers like a hydraulic cleaver through a bunch of sheets. I kept on generating the barrier but Kaede’s blade never came to even a point where I could say she was struggling even a bit.
She looked all composed but here my face must have already paled, that much mana I was consuming. My mana wasn’t depleting, nor was it anywhere near the bottom, yet the massive output of my magical energy was straining my mana nerves.
My feet were being pushed back, my hands raised in front of my chest and my focus only concentrated in a single direction.
‘Fuck…when would she stop?!’
I was already feeling dizzy. This was the first time I have exhausted this much mana and since my powers were still untapped, it was a miracle how I still was holding her back.
But it seemed I celebrated early since the strength in my feet entirely got spent and I fell to my knees. My arms were shaking and my Barriers were less effective than before.
After what seemed like an eternity, I finally put every ounce of my determination to live into the next shield which was the thickest and contained a massive portion of my mana.
For the first time, Kaede seemed to react as she narrowed her gaze but I wasn’t able to observe anything further since I blacked out soon after.
‘I hope I won’t wake in heavens…or maybe hell…’

[Kaede’s POV: ]
‘Alright, this guy is strong… ‘
Not because Yuki withheld my attack for straight twenty-eight seconds but because he resisted my initial strike containing the highest range of my strength in this state. Naturally, I was holding a lot back but still, the pressure on the boy must be like a bus hitting him at full speed.
Currently, he was kneeling unconscious on the ground yet his arms were still raised protectively. It shows that he has the desperation to live and also that he was not any random newbie. I guess, this is something to expect from the grandchild of such a famous figure.
Coming to his skill then the Barrier he cast didn’t take any chant even though it was not single-layered, signifying that the boy was proficient in his skill.
More so when he continued casting the Barrier one after another, blocking my sword in the process.
But there was something more to this guy…the attacks used on those dungeon toads were not something a Barrier-type mage could implicate until they had any other skill. And since I have verified Yuki has two skills already, it indicates he is still hiding something.
I made my decision. This boy would live.
‘Let’s wrap this up… ‘ Draping the boy over my shoulder I walked back to his home.
I found the two women standing outside the house with a frenzied expressions on their faces.
“Yuki! ”
“Yuki-kun!”
I handed them the boy as they supported him like a baby before I took something out of my spatial storage and handed it over to the guardian of the boy.
“This….”
“It’s a recommendation letter to the Tower of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Yuki would be a late admission but I think that much he could handle.”
I had only one invitation letter and I couldn’t have found any better person than Yuki for it. Even though he has shortcomings, with his attitude and mysterious skills, I bet he would shine at the top one day and finally could take the mantle of responsibilities from me.
Both were shocked seeing the letter but I wasn’t in the mood to state the reason for my kind-heartedness. I am just built like that *smug*.
Gazing at the boy for the last time, I couldn’t help but let out a smile at the thought of what was to come.
He might become a legend to be known down the history or just fodder who’s destined to be crushed.
‘Don’t disappoint me, Yuki… ‘
