- Chapter 30: Heading To School Together With Snow White.
Heading To School Together With Snow White.
“I’ll go ahead because it would be troublesome if we went together.” Marika said, and she headed to school before me.
She seemed to genuinely sympathize with Himeno’s situation, willing to step back to avoid any potential rumors.
“It seems that Shikibe-san also has a bit of common sense.”
Himeno is unusually sharp-tongued towards Marika, and they may not get along well.
She probably doesn’t want to be friends with someone who is with a sulking partner.
To Himeno’s muttered words, I could only chuckle awkwardly, not knowing how to respond.
As we reached the school gate, Himeno took a step closer, held my hand, and said, “Taka-kun, we need to show everyone our relationship.”
Responding to her, I intertwined my fingers with hers, and together, we made our way to school.
Walking hand in hand with Himeno, a girl of such beauty, was bound to attract attention. As we strolled, we noticed students in uniforms looking our way, making comments like “Shirayuki-san is holding hands with a guy” and “Isn’t that Marika’s childhood friend?” Rumors about us were sure to spread quickly.
It was clear that Himeno had a plan, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that there might be some complications ahead, especially concerning Marika.
“We’re attracting a lot of attention, aren’t we?”
“Yeah,” I nodded, feeling a bit embarrassed, matching Himeno’s flushed cheeks.
However, being inconspicuous wouldn’t generate any rumors, and that would defeat the purpose.
“So, even though it’s embarrassing, we have to keep holding hands.”
“I understand,” I replied, sensing that today’s situation was slightly different from our Saturday outing.
During weekends, the area around the station might not have many people familiar with Himeno, but the current time during our school commute was different. There were more students who knew her, and walking hand in hand at this moment was undoubtedly making both of us extremely self-conscious.
“Will you be okay if people say something about us?”
Himeno’s question carried a worried expression.
“Don’t worry. We might face jealousy or gossip, but no one will do anything directly,” I assured her.
Being the school’s beauty, known as Snow White, and having Marika by her side—a popular girl herself—meant that there would be some attention. However, the chances of anyone bullying me were slim. If someone did, they risked disapproval from Himeno and Marika, which was something many wouldn’t want.
“So, it’s fine…”
Her expression softened a bit, but there was still a lingering concern. Perhaps she didn’t like the idea of me potentially becoming a target due to our relationship. Himeno, who had experienced backbiting from other girls, likely understood the pain.
“No need to worry,” I reassured her.
“Ah…” She responded, seemingly comforted, yet a hint of worry remained.
Suppressing an incredibly embarrassing feeling, I pulled Himeno closer to me.
It was the first time I had done something like this in public, and my heart was pounding so intensely that it felt like it might burst. However, Himeno likely found comfort in being embraced. So, I had to reassure her that everything was fine.
“Thank you. I always seem to be saved by you, Taka-kun.”
Himeno, seemingly completely at ease, closed her eyes and leaned into me.
“It’s not like that. I’ve been saved by you too.”
While the shock of my recent heartbreak hadn’t completely healed, I knew that without Himeno, I would have been even more deeply wounded. I was genuinely grateful, and I wanted to continue being with her, even after the bullying stopped.
Perhaps healing from the heartbreak would take longer than the end of Himeno’s ordeal. I didn’t want her to leave me, and just feeling her warmth provided relief.
Even if the end of the bullying came first, Himeno, being conscientious, would likely offer comfort if being together became difficult.
“Let’s head to school then.”
“Yes.”
Hand in hand, we resumed our walk toward school.
