Feels Like Things Are About To Get A Bit Chaotic.
“Good morning, Taka-kun.”
As the week began on Monday morning, the intercom rang. When I went to answer it, I saw Himeno on the screen, dressed in her school uniform, with slightly reddened cheeks.
Perhaps to give the impression that she now has a specific male companion, she seemed to have thought of going to school together.
“I’ll open it now.”
Thinking that it was fortunate not to be disliked after the ear nibbling, I pressed the unlock button on the intercom.
Since we would be spending time together for a while, maybe it’s a good idea to give her a spare key.
The lock has become a bit tricky to pick, so it might take some time to make a new one, but it wouldn’t hurt to give her one.
“Did Shirayuki-san come?”
“Yeah.”
Answering the voice of Marika, who was cooking in the kitchen.
Despite saying that Himeno would be the one cooking today, Marika seems to be the one making the meal. Her personality must have really changed.
Perhaps she misunderstood and thought Himeno was only going to cook during school days at lunch.
Marika hummed a tune while joyfully cooking.
“She’s here.”
Considering the time, she probably came up the stairs since the elevator is likely filled with commuters and students.
As I opened the door towards the entrance, Himeno, with a smiling face, was standing there.
Seeing this smile, it seemed like she wasn’t really angry about the ear nibbling. I sighed in relief.
“Well, I was thinking of going to school together.”
With reddened cheeks, Himeno fidgeted with her hands and feet, moving them up and down.
Since we didn’t exactly promise to go to school together, it took some courage for the shy Himeno to suggest it.
“For now, come inside.”
Since I hadn’t had breakfast yet and couldn’t go to school, I invited Himeno into the living room.
“Shikibe-san, you’re here.”
“Yeah. After all, taking care of Ta-kun is the duty of his older sister, which is me.”
Seeing Himeno looking at Marika with eyes that could be thinking about the difference from our promise, Marika responded without seeming to feel any guilt.
“But didn’t we promise that I would be the one cooking?”
“Huh? Well, because Shirayuki-san’s house is a bit far, and it must be tough, right?”
“I don’t mind walking; it’s just ten minutes.”
I sighed deeply, feeling genuinely exasperated with Marika.
Even though we think of each other as childhood friends like siblings, and it’s understandable that we can’t date, it’s been only about a week since she rejected my confession. Perhaps she wonders why I keep coming over.
“I made it just for you, though…”
Himeno mumbled softly. Inside her bag, she probably had lunch and breakfast.
It’s a pure guess, but probably due to the embarrassment from the ear nibbling yesterday, I couldn’t sleep much and, being in an unfamiliar house, I made lunch and breakfast later than usual.
Though not the first time, it takes time to get used to someone else’s house, and the rhythm is slower than usual.
“Food’s ready.”
We heard a voice from the kitchen.
“It’s okay. I’ll eat Himeno’s cooking properly too.”
He whispered that into my ear, and I nodded with a pleased voice.
To bring breakfast to the table, Takashi headed to the kitchen.
“Taka-kun, open wide!”
We were in the middle of breakfast when Himeno, with a determined expression, approached me with an octopus-shaped wiener she had made.
It’s probably embarrassing for Himeno to do this in public, but it seemed like she was determined to go through with it no matter what.
Maybe she’s thinking about school, and if Marika persistently interacts with me, she wants to give the impression to people at school that she has a specific guy in mind.
So, this “here comes the airplane” act is likely a way to counter Marika.
“Hey…”
It’s embarrassing for me to do this in public too, and I avoid looking at Himeno sitting next to me.
“Taka-kun, open wide!”
As it seemed she wouldn’t stop, I reluctantly ate the octopus-shaped wiener in my mouth.
The wiener, seasoned with salt and pepper, was delicious and probably used in today’s bento.
“I’ll do ‘here comes the airplane’ for Ta-kun too.”
Even though we were sitting across the table, it was a close enough distance for the “here comes the airplane,” and Marika used chopsticks to cut a piece of the egg white from the fried egg and brought it to my mouth.
Why is she doing this today, even though she hasn’t done the “here comes the airplane” since puberty?
“Shikibe-san, do you understand that you’ve been rejected by Taka-kun?”
“Yeah, but you don’t date siblings, do you?
“If you were real siblings, yes. But you two are childhood friends, not siblings, right?”
“True, there’s no blood relation, but Ta-kun is my brother. No matter what happens, it’s the big sister’s duty to spoil her little brother.”
Muttering something like, “What’s going on here?” Himeno let out a grandiose sigh.
Even if she refuses to confess because she can’t date him, she insists on being his sister because she wants to be with him…maybe she thought she was a really strange person.
“Ta-kun, open wide!”
Resigned, I thought, and ate the fried egg she brought to my mouth.
It had the usual seasoning, but it felt a bit strange since she doesn’t usually do this.
“T-Taka-kun, I want too. Here comes the airplane!”
So, today’s breakfast turned into a session of mutual “here comes the airplane.”
