- Chapter 85- For the future~2
[Haruki’s POV:]
It’s true that I never thought this through and acted on my impulse. To beat a news reporter and announce myself as Emiko’s fiancé. No, this all was never in my mind but it all was spoken by my conscious self. And I don’t regret saying it nor I ever would.
However, the problem now arises that if I don’t change my residence and keep on living away from Emiko, the media will start to dig into our private lives even more. They might even connect Emiko’s retirement to me and our relationship.
‘I won’t be surprised if they already did it….’ I didn’t dare to look at the news channels for now. And currently, there was something far more concerning to face than the news.
“Emiko….” Looking at her shy and hesitant self, I began, “…I know various things have happened. We have gone through two lifetimes to reach this point and have faced numerous obstacles along the way.”
Emiko nodded, albeit with a tinge of guilt appearing in her eyes.
I didn’t dwell on the reason for her remorse, and added, “But I never regretted falling in love with you.”
My confession came out a bit embarrassing but I never shied away.
Emiko’s eyes were stretched a little as she looked at me in disbelief. She surely wasn’t expecting me to say this all of a sudden.
I heaved a sigh and held her hand tenderly, before continuing, “You know there were situations where I thought, ‘Do I even deserve to be with her’ or ‘Would Emiko like me in the future much as she does right now?'”
Those questions generally overweighed my mind in this lifetime after I began to live with her all of a sudden.
Emiko didn’t say anything but from her expression alone I can tell she wanted to say something.
I smiled at her, and cupped her cheek, “But now…I have decided. Whether I deserve you or not, doesn’t matter, since I won’t be letting you go now.”
“Haru-kun….” Her voice finally seeped through her lips as she looked at me with moistened eyes. She tilted her head and rested her face in my hold.
“I will make sure that your love for me never recedes and we can be together for the years to come,” I promised without hesitation. We have been through several rough patches. Although I have been disgruntled about the fact that she hid ‘our past’ from me, it doesn’t mean I would abandon Emiko like forever.
Forget about her, even I won’t be able to live without her.
“Haru-kun…it’s not because of the media that you are forgiving me, right?” The fear was palpable in her voice as she asked in a meek tone with her eyes still closed.
“Are you an idiot? Why would I need a medium to become the reason? Sooner or later, I would have forgiven you. Today’s incident just hastened the process.”
A smile that was worth a billion lifted the edges of her lips as she suggested, “Then…not everything was bad about what happened today.”
“Don’t say that. I really won’t like to face them again.” My voice sounded both tired and annoyed. Those people just don’t know restrains.
Emiko giggled and scooted closer to me.
Turning her back to me she leaned her body to me and brought my arms around her waist.
This sudden intimacy made me aware of how hot her body was. No, in the literal sense.
I touched her cheek and fortunately, it wasn’t boiling as before.
“I am fine now, Haru-kun. If you don’t believe me then check my temperature closely.” She offered her forehead and closed her eyes.
The way she lifted her chin, it seemed to me that she was asking for a kiss.
Those supple lips invited my whole consciousness and without even glancing around, I snatched the opportunity.
“—!” The kiss was short lived but the reaction was still quite lively.
With her face turned hotter than before Emiko looked at me in disbelief and panic. She didn’t expect a bit for me to kiss her, eh?
“That’s what you get from showing your vulnerable side.” I shrugged and stated in a matter-of-fact tone.
“That’s unfair…I didn’t even feel it….” She uttered in a barely audible tone. However, kissing her again would surely lead to something which I would like to avoid right now. My guardians probably are listening to us.
We both sat with our bodies connected and a peaceful silence between us.
It was so abrupt that in the morning I wouldn’t have thought that we would be sitting so intimately and sharing kisses. However, I feel everything that happened was for good.
“Haru-kun, what would happen now?” Hearing her question I didn’t need to ask what she meant.
After a hum, I responded, “First, we need to change our residence and if possible, convince my sister and brother-in-law to stay at some other place for a few months as well.”
“I can help with that. There is an apartment I bought a few years ago for occasional use and if my parents wanted to live in Tokyo. It is well furnished and also, it is registered under Naomi’s name.”
Emiko swayed her finger and enthusiastically spoke.
I chuckled at that and said, “I will talk to them.”
Emiko made a ‘Hmm-hmm’ sound and fell silent again.
Oh, I see. She wants to hear it from me. That is what I have decided for us.
It was not easy for me, but I have already said some of the most embarrassing things today, so this was nothing.
Holding her left hand, I caressed her ring finger before whispering, “And once we settle back in our house again…I would formally propose to you.”
Without looking at her face I could tell that she was smiling shyly at the moment. Although we both knew I would say this, I could feel mine and her heart as well, beating like crazy.
In these two lifetimes, we have phased from strangers to friends and taken a break at being lovers. And now….we will get married.
The silence was quite comfortable between us, when suddenly I remembered something and asked Emiko,
“Now that we are together…”
“Hmm?”
I lowered my lips and whispered in her ear, “…then can you return that box to me?”
“—!!”
