- Chapter 22- Compliment
Have you ever faced a situation that despite being dangerous, has enticed you to no end, however, in the end, it turned out you were delusional from the start?
I was experiencing something like that.
Not only did Harada-san make me panic to the edge of a heart attack but also made me call her by her first name in the threat that she would untie her apron and reveal her naked body to me.
As an innocent person as I am, I didn’t want to see a sight for which I wasn’t prepared so I readily called her Emiko.
However, upon witnessing that Harada-san was wearing a very short mini-skirt and a sleeveless top beneath the apron, I felt….kind of disappointed.
I swear I didn’t want to see her birth suit but the fact she threatened me about something that wasn’t a threat from the start made me annoyed and a bit frustrated with how easily Harada-san played with my fragile heart.
Truly evil.
“Your expression says you didn’t like my prank…or is it that Haru-kun desperately wanted to see me naked?” While leaning on the kitchen station Harada-san asked, this time wearing proper clothes.
The gleam of amusement could have been any more vivid than it was at the moment as she expected some funny reaction from me. But like hell I would allow myself to get embarrassed any further.
“D-Don’t s-s-say n-needless stuff, H-Harada-san… I knew you w-were clothed… ”
I messed up, didn’t I?
Even if I didn’t notice my stutter and the heat my face must have been displaying at the moment, the expression of glee Harada-san wore at the moment would have expressed it all.
But soon the elation died down as Harada-san whined, “You again being formal with me? Why Haru-kun? You don’t like my name?”
That certainly….wasn’t the case.
I mean, Emiko was a pretty good name which means Blessed Child if derived from its origin and there could be many nicknames that could be given to her as well.
But the fact we had only met for less than twenty-four hours and how distant I still feel myself distant from Harada-san wasn’t allowing me to call her by her given name.
I was about to turn and reject her request convincingly but upon witnessing those adorable puppy eyes and droopy lips the first word that rushed out of my throat was,
“Emiko.”
….I was a fool to think I could convince her for anything.
The moe was dangerous there and I believe with that face she could have made me do anything and I wouldn’t have felt bad for it even a bit.
Har-ehm-Emiko-san smiled like a freshly bloomed flower hearing her name from me as she replied with a cheerful, ‘Hai!’
It was profoundly confusing why she seems to be so attached to me and many small things if it’s related to me.
But there was something I was getting assured about after observing these small gestures and such.
‘Emiko-san really does like me…. ‘ I couldn’t help smiling at the thought. How impossible it may sound but after what I have seen since yesterday, I can deduce that she was never deceiving me.
‘I hope I can repay her kindness somehow…’ With such thoughts, I went to help Emiko-san in the kitchen…only to be told by her that it was necessary for me to rest and take it easy.
It seemed she didn’t want to let me see what she was cooking so I didn’t pry much and went to change my clothes after a quick bath.

[Third Person POV:]
After Haruki returned to the dinner table, his nose was filled with the flavourful fragrance of something tangy and spicy, and when his gaze laid on the dish awaiting him, his heart felt lighter than before.
Spaghetti and meatballs along with chilled lemon basil spritzer (non-alcoholic).
“Have a seat, Haru-kun. I will be joining in a second…” Emiko called out for him without turning herself as she calmly prepared the dessert which would need just ten minutes of refrigeration.
Haruki gulped and wordlessly sat down without daring to touch the spoon until she didn’t come.
Manners aside, the dish looked so finely prepared and exquisitely decorated that he felt he was at some sort of expensive restaurant and the thought somehow made him nervous.
He only had spaghetti with meatballs twice before since he never knew how to prepare it and those two times were when his superior treated him.
Haruki really liked the dish at that time but his life was so busy these days that he barely had anything fancy in mind to eat other than regular food.
“Why don’t you start?” Haruki didn’t realize when Emiko walked toward the table and sat across from him with a soft smile adorning her lips.
Despite the fact, that he was making such a silly expression upon finding the mouthwatering food, Emiko didn’t seem to be teasing him about it nor did her eyes make him feel embarrassed.
Haruki felt warm inside.
They both prayed before Haruki finally dug in.
The first serve and his eyes went wide by the jolts of flavor his tongue was met with. He remained like that for a bit before he began to chew the food slowly, savoring all the flavors.
“How is it?” Hearing her words and gazing at her hopeful look, Haruki didn’t hold back in his compliment.
“If a meteor drops right now I wouldn’t die with a single regret after eating this, Emiko-san. This food isn’t just delicious but I am sure it would home a memory deep inside my mind. Words can’t express how delighted I feel after taking a bite of the food your beautiful and talented hand has prepared. If anything I would like to live this moment for forever and-”
“That’s enough, Haru-kun! Please say no more….” Emiko suddenly raised her palm in front of her face to stop Haruki from saying anything further.
Each one of his compliments was lethal for her. He doesn’t know how effective his casual remark could be on her.
While Emiko was trying to fight her blush which was almost the same shade as a tomato, Haruki was busy wolfing down the dinner with a happy innocent smile.
He didn’t know why Emiko didn’t let him complete his words of appreciation but well. Great people might not like being complimented was what he considered her behavior as.
After finishing the dinner Emiko brought the chocolate mousse which she prepared beforehand.
Making a mental note to have a good early morning jog, Emiko allowed herself to be lenient about her diet since she didn’t want to let Haruki feel lonely even while eating dessert.
“Haru-kun….” Haruki turned his eyes from the scenery he was watching out of the glass panel before he raised his brows in questioning.
Emiko seemed a bit hesitant before she finally let out the words she had been thinking about since afternoon, “It’s about your job….”
