When My Younger Brother Stole My Girlfriend, I Began Living Together with My Beautiful Childhood Friend Almost As If We Were Married - Chapter 42
Episode 42: Big Sister Goes Wild Again
Feeling a bit out of place and anxious, both Reina and I followed Fuyuka-san with a tense expression.
Meanwhile, Fuyuka-san sat casually in front of the counter, seemingly unconcerned about anything.
“Good evening! What do you have today?”
“Welcome, Fuyuka-chan! We have delicious tuna today!”
“Sounds great! Then… starting with tuna and horse mackerel, please!”
“Sure thing! You’ve brought company today?”
“My little sister and brother-in-law. They’re my pride and joy!”
“Is it the sister you always talk about? She seems like such a sweetheart! And it feels like her husband would treat her well too.”
“These two aren’t married yet. He’s my future brother-in-law. Oh, please give them some nigiri you recommended.”
“Got it! Leave it to me!”
Just from this conversation, you could tell that Fuyuka-san and the head chef had quite a deep relationship. Before moving here, she must have come quite often. I felt a bit envious.
And then, Reina blushed either happily or embarrassedly when I was called, “husband”.
I looked around the restaurant, thinking of the endless thoughts of how cute she was.
“As expected of a high-class establishment. It feels so traditional…!”
“It makes me think of the Edo period, don’t you think?”
“The interior is the pride of the head chef.”
Even while waiting, I felt my eyes becoming more discerning. This was a sight I might never see again. I needed to enjoy it fully and use it as bragging material. But knowing Fuyuka-san, she might bring us here again.
Then, Fuyuka-san’s tuna and horse mackerel, along with our tuna and flounder, were served.
“Here you go!”
“”Wow!””
Reina and I exclaimed in amazement at the same time. The high-class sushi, which we wouldn’t normally see, looked so beautiful that it seemed to emit a sparkling light.
I immediately picked up the flounder and brought it to my mouth. Its delicate flavor was infused with the richness of the seafood, creating a rush of flavors that couldn’t be found in conveyor belt sushi, enveloping my mouth in bliss.
“Delicious!”
“Great reaction! That makes me happy!”
“Every move you make is precious.”
Fuyuka-san also smiled as she tasted the horse mackerel.
“Mm! This is delicious too!”
“Right? Fresh fish is always the best!”
“Yes! …Oh, right!”
Fuyuka-san clapped her hands and then took out her phone to start searching for something. After checking the screen, she leaned in towards us.
“Both of you are off from tomorrow, right? How’s your part-time work schedule?”
“I won’t be working for a while…”
“I’m not scheduled for a while either.”
“Alright, it’s decided!”
As she tapped on the screen, a sound signaled the arrival of an email.
“Chef! What’s good in the Japan Sea at this time of year?”
“Well… it’s not crab season, and it’s summer, so… perhaps we could go with a snow grouper.”
“Snow grouper! I’ve never tried it, so I’m looking forward to it!”
“Really? Are you planning to go to the Japan Sea side?”
Fuyuka-san must be planning a trip. I should expect some souvenirs.
Beside me, Reina looked like she wanted to say something, but she swallowed her words as she ate the salmon roe battleship.
I also took a bite of tuna, enjoying its exquisite taste.
Then, Fuyuka-san turned her gaze towards us.
“So, when we get back today, let’s start packing. We’re going on a trip to Hokuriku tomorrow!”
…Huh?
“Big sister? Are we going too…?”
“That’s right!”
Whaaat?!
“That’s how it always is with you!”
“I’m sorry! But I’ve already secured transportation and hotel!”
So that’s what that was all about! You can’t just decide on a trip like that on a whim!
I was taken aback by the rollercoaster-like speed of events, and the head chef was just laughing.
“Fuyuka-chan’s whims are nothing new. Just try to get used to it.”
“Such irresponsibility…”
“It’ll be fine! I’ve booked rooms with a double and a single!”
“Is that so…!”
“Alright then! Here’s some miso soup, yellowtail, and salmon roe!”
“Ah, please give me some yellowtail and salmon roe too.”
“Got it!”
Even though Reina seemed like she wanted to say something, she ate the salmon roe gunkan and held back her words.
As for me, I decided to build up some resistance to Fuyuka-san’s outrageous events and slurped the aka dashi miso soup.
The flavor of the shellfish and the aroma of miso warmed me up.
The yellowtail was rich with fat, making me regret not putting wasabi on it, and it was satisfying.
“At this time of year, the snow grouper is also delicious, and the sand borer might be good too. If you’re into seafood, I think Nanao, a bit south of Noto Island, is a good place to go.”
“Thanks for the information, Chef! We’ll try going there on the second day!”
“Wait a minute, big sister! How many nights are we planning to stay!?”
It seemed like it would be a long trip.
So, starting from tomorrow, we’re going to Hokuriku.
