When My Younger Brother Stole My Girlfriend, I Began Living Together with My Beautiful Childhood Friend Almost As If We Were Married - Chapter 41
Episode 41: After the Exams
The cicadas’ buzzing grew louder, and by the latter half of July, most people walking on the streets had switched to short sleeves.
In the cool room with air conditioning, I was taking my final test.
Once this test is over, the summer break will finally begin. I tell myself it’s just a little more and focus on the questions.
The biggest enemy in Chinese is the listening section. If you’ve memorized grammar and vocabulary, you can apply them in various ways, and even if you haven’t learned something in class, as long as it makes sense, it’s considered correct.
However, the listening part is tough. Anyone who has studied Chinese will understand the struggle of understanding the four tones.
I quickly finish the grammar questions, decipher the long passages, and when the time comes, I tackle the listening section.
I struggled a lot during class, but this time, I’ll make sure to distinguish them properly!

“…So, it didn’t go well.”
“…Yeah.”
In the car on the way back home, Reina listened to my complaints while I was hanging my head.
I think the listening section, which I couldn’t understand at all, ended up with terrible results. It’s just too difficult, as expected.
I don’t think I’ll lose any credits since I felt confident about the other sections, but it’s frustrating because I wanted to overcome the tough enemy of the listening section.
“You had German, right, Reina? Wasn’t it okay?”
“There were a few tricky parts, but I think I managed to answer quite a bit.”
“Even the listening?”
“Yeah. It was tough, but I don’t think I did anything fatal.”
Hearing that just makes me feel even worse.
While the difficulty levels between German and Chinese may differ, I feel somewhat embarrassed thinking that Reina managed to understand things coolly while I was in a panic with question marks swirling in my head.
Despite having listened to a lot of audio materials as part of my test preparation, it seems like it wasn’t enough…
“Well, well. You’re not in danger of failing any credits, right? So let’s think about something fun now that it’s over!”
“Yeah, right… I guess you’re right.”
“Yeah yeah! Also, my sister said she’s going to treat us to delicious sushi today. It’s not conveyor belt sushi.”
“I’ve never been to such a place.”
Alright, let’s change the subject. I’m not in danger of failing any credits. I’m sure of it.
Instead of obsessing over what’s done, let’s go back, review a bit, and think about summer vacation plans and sushi.
On the way back, I pick up some frozen food, snacks, and a bit less juice since we’re running out, then finally arrive home.
As I climb the stairs to put my bags in my room, Fuyuka-san is on the phone with someone. I don’t know the details, but it sounds work-related.
Moving quietly so as not to disturb her, I put my bag down and headed back downstairs. I put away the items I bought on the shelves.
And just as I spread out the textbooks I brought, Fuyuka-san comes downstairs too.
“Hey, you two. Welcome back. Shall we go?”
“Is it that time already?”
“Don’t you want to go soon? I skipped lunch, so I’m just hungry and want to eat.”
“But I did make gyudon for you in the fridge?”
When Reina opens the fridge, she finds the gyudon she made for Fuyuka-san’s lunch still there.
What a waste. I’ll take that.
Reina gets angry, Fuyuka-san clinging to her and apologizing, and seeing this, I intervene and somehow manage to calm her anger.
But while Reina’s mood seems to have improved a bit, she still pouts a little as we head outside, but this time, we get into Fuyuka-san’s car.
Although I’m not used to something luxurious like a Mercedes Benz, Fuyuka-san smiles and starts the car.
“Anyway, Reina’s right. It’s early for dinner, but is it okay without a reservation?”
“I didn’t make a reservation. The master and I are acquainted, and besides, there’s always space available, so it should be fine.”
“Is it a hidden gem kind of place?”
“It’s quite expensive with the market price, so not many customers come. But I guarantee the taste.”
It seems like we’re being taken to another outrageous place. I had a feeling when she mentioned nigiri sushi, but here we go again.
Reina didn’t seem to expect it either, as she kept worrying if her outfit was okay.
But if you’re going to mention that, then I’m in more danger. My current outfit is quite casual.
In times like these, I envy the ladies who can make almost anything look like high-end fashion. Fuyuka-san’s exceptional nature, surpassing Reina’s expectations, is something I still can’t get used to.
