When My Younger Brother Stole My Girlfriend, I Began Living Together with My Beautiful Childhood Friend Almost As If We Were Married - Chapter 40
Episode 40: Recruitment for Circles and the School Festival
After the tests were over, as I glanced around the lecture hall, a magnificent mountain of defeated souls had formed. It seemed like everyone had fallen victim to the professor’s malicious scheme.
Next to me, Amamiya was lying face down, lamenting.
“What’s with this ‘test is just one A3 sheet’? Don’t mess with me.”
“I didn’t lie.”
“Yeah, but still! That was an ambush!”
I could somewhat understand Amamiya’s frustration.
We were informed in advance by the professor that the test would be just one A3 sheet, and we were given a clear outline of the scope. Some reference materials were allowed.
Surely, those who had been overconfident about the permitted materials were now among the fallen. If I hadn’t reviewed it beforehand, I might have met the same fate.
Normally, when you hear “one A3 sheet,” you would expect several questions to answer.
But what was actually presented was unexpectedly just one question. The majority of the A3 sheet was for writing an essay.
As soon as the papers were handed out, I heard voices around me saying, “Oh no…” I genuinely sympathized. I think at least ten people must have uttered that sentiment judging by the tone.
As for myself, I’m not confident whether I did well or not. Actually, I think I messed up.
I believe I might get partial credit, but if I can score seventy percent, that would be a relief.
Fortunately, the grades for this class don’t simply rely on the test, they also consider the final report, regular attendance, and other submissions.
In other words, if I make up for it with the final report, I can still keep within an acceptable range.
Personally, I think this test is essentially like a final report.
“It’s over.”
“Are you okay?”
“If the final report is at the same level, I’m done for. I’ll die.”
Amamiya seems even more exhausted than I imagined.
Well, she has no issues with attendance or submissions, so unless she writes something really outrageous in the report, she should be fine.
When I tentatively conveyed that, she responded while still lying down, fluttering her hand as if to dismiss it.
“It’s fine, it’s fine. If you go with a throwaway attitude.”
This is hopeless.
Laughing at the increasingly broken Amamiya, I stood up from my seat.
“What are you doing later, Ma-tsun?”
“I have another lecture in the afternoon, so maybe I’ll have lunch with Reina.”
“I see. Oh, by the way, I heard from Yu-yu. She’s participating in a solo performance at the school festival?”
“I never said a word about it.”
Ah, that. Are we talking about that dance at karaoke? She never intended to participate.
“Here, take this. It’s the application form.”
“Is it really happening?”
“Reina will definitely liven things up if she joins. Well, why not try inviting her?”
Amamiya is on the festival’s organizing committee, so she probably wants to spice things up.
I accepted the application form with a disclaimer not to expect much.
Carrying my bag, I bid farewell to Amamiya and left the lecture hall.
I’m meeting Reina in the parking lot. She’s prepared lunch today, so we don’t need to go to the cafeteria. We’ll eat in the car, keeping close distance.
But before that, I’ll stop by Building 1 to pick up a membership form.
Since we’re on this topic, I might as well invite Reina to the club. She mentioned being unaffiliated, so it might be a good fit.
With two forms in hand, I head to the parking lot.
Reina, who doesn’t have a second class, is already inside the car, reclined in her seat, peacefully asleep.
It feels a bit rude to wake her up, but if I don’t, I won’t be able to get inside, and I’ll miss lunch.
I knock on the window, and the sound wakes Reina up. She unlocks the car for me.
“Sorry for the wait.”
“Welcome back. …What’s that?”
“Oh, this? It’s the application form for the solo performance at the school festival. And this is the membership form for the club.”
“Tell me more.”
“Remember when we went to Round Zero before, and you danced at karaoke? You got invited to perform at the festival for real.”
“Really? But it sounds fun. I’m interested.”
“Seriously? Then should I apply for you?”
“Yeah! So, what’s the membership form for?”
“I’m currently in an outdoor club, and it’s pretty relaxed. We just enjoy trips and activities. I thought it might suit you since you said you’re unaffiliated.”
“Being in the same club as Hayato… Sounds good. I want to join both!”
Alright, if that’s settled, let’s quickly fill these out.
The membership form requires a seal, so I’ll leave that to Reina. I’ll fill out the application form for her solo performance.
I also inform Amamiya of her intentions to participate and confirm what they’ll do about the club.
“Thanks! Looking forward to their participation in the club too!”
I’ll contact the representative to inform them that Amamiya and Reina want to join the circle. It seems like the representative already knew about Reina, and they enthusiastically replied with an affirmative response. Since she’s a girl, I don’t think she’ll do anything strange, but I’ll keep an eye out during activities just in case based on this message. For now, this seems to be all I need to do.
Taking a breath, I cleared my throat and picked up my chopsticks as Reina had prepared a delicious-looking bento lunch.
